What a pleasant surprise on our tourist neighbourhood hunt for a later night restaurant. The atmosphere is warm, slightly refined with white tablecloths and a very personable owner, Bruce, who took care of us in fine style. He recommended two dishes, chicken kebabs of his own recipe for marinating and lamb curry. Yummy! Naan bread and paratha to accompany. Loved it all. You will not be disappointed with this reaturant and they have been around 34 years, just to prove it.
Delicious and authentic classy curry place in the City. It's a bit tucked away and in a cave, literally. The food is great and the service is very good as well. They're also accommodating of large groups. You could order off the menu and they'll prepare dishes made to order. A great gem!
The food is authentic and tasty but a bit expensive for the quantity they serve.
The staff could improve on customer service. It's not ventilated as its dining chamber is underground.
The India is a great little curry house near Cannon Street Station which extends underneath the cavernous arches of its locomotive neighbour. When we gandered in for tea there was a good mix of Indian and British diners, which is always reassuring, not only for the food's authenticity but also to assuage my spice starved taste buds' fear of the subcontinent's renowned culinary heat.
The food was really good - where I come from curry is rather schizophrenic. It's normally either smothered in ghee or so hot as to reduce the eater to a pink mess of sweat and pain, but here flavour rather the heat won out. I had a dopiaza, but shared a balti and biryani all of which were excellent.
Overall a great experience - good price, great service and great surroundings - well worth another visit.
Very Tasty Indian Food. If you like authentic and spicy Indian food this is a great place to eat. It is also open late so is a great place to grab dinner after a many of pints in in the City pubs.
After days of eating non-Indian food, it was such delight to eat here! Really good option for north Indian food in London. Though, the service or the hospitality is not homely/Indian. (visited in Oct14)
I have been dining at The India at College Hill near Cannon Street station for over three years now and I've yet to be disappointed. Another superb meal with great service. Looking forward to the next meal and exploring more of the menu. I took my brother for a dinner here after seeing some of the Olympics and we both had an excellent meal
We had dinner at the India Restaurant with my best friends - it was a fab experience great ambiance and the food is delicious. Not the hottest curry I've tasted but very good flavors. A la crate menu was reasonably priced even without the discount, but we took advantage of the 50% off food deal which made it even better as it was available on the internet. Servers generally polite and friendly, service was a little slow but this was understandable considering there were 15 of us and it was peak time the restaurant was full. Definitely recommend for a casual dining experience with friends when you can relaxed to eat your food.
This is a fantastic and authentic Indian restaurant. The food is of a very high standard and full of taste. The spice levels were perfect. I enjoyed every part of my meal here and will certainly be coming back. I chose this restaurant as it is very close to the Shakespeare Globe Theatre.
Great food, great service, great atmosphere. A calm and relaxed place literally round the corner from one of the busiest parts of London, you feel you you could be anywhere the world. Great menu, our food was fresh and full of flavour and everything else we saw looked superb too. If you are a curry fan and looking for a curry in London then look no further. Keema Naan was awesome
Amazing waiting staff, super friendly!! Give you the best recommendation for you likings and best deals. Thank you again!
I had a great experience at this restaurant! The greeting and service was quick and prompt! The ambiance was very nice. The food was delicious!
Terrific service and food. Ordered the Chicken Biryani, peshavari naan and samosas. Excellent! Top 5 best things I've ever had! Highly recommend if you're near the London bridge and need a bite to eat!
We had a great experience in this restaurant when my mum was visiting, the food was incredible and service was very good, Salman and Kawsar were very helpful.... Highly recommended, will definitely be back soon.
Absolutely fantastic food and wonderful service. I would highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a quiet meal.
Wonderful service from rana who was very helpful and and kind
Two of us came the evening of 3 November. We had a wonderful time! The food, service and ambiance were all excellent. In particular, it is clear that each dish is individually cooked, not assembled using a universal "gravy". The total cost of a shared starter, two mains, rice, naan, a bottle of wine and service came to just over £100, very good value for a London restaurant. Note for driving to the restaurant in the evening that the congestion charge stops at 6 pm and the parking restrictions stop at 7 pm.
They are amazing! The chicken was very juicy and creamy at the same time. Salman, the waiter, was very friendly and helpful. I would definitely recommend.
If you have one meal in London, this is the place.
Waking into a very small reception room at street level, and quickly seated by an accommodating hostess in the lower level. We ate in a small arched ceiling dining area with low ceilings. Like, you’ll hit your head if you are 6’3”.
Immediately several waitstaff asked for drink orders and apps. We ordered the Pappadam. Melt in your mouth great with the most unique mint chutney. The Mains were Chicken Korma, where the Korma was whipped(?) truly amazing! Their lamb dish was the best ever eaten.
Great portions, exceptional value and super service from a restaurant that truly appreciates their guests.
Brilliant food and atmosphere, great service from Salim and Salman. Would highly recommend !!
Had such a lovely evening, me and the misses have come here a couple of times. If you want a special date night in the city where you're treated like locals every time, come to Best of the City. Honestly the most welcoming and friendly Indian in town. That's before you get onto the food, amazing taste, good range of flavours and great portions. Such a fantastic meal, amazing staff, cannot recommend highly enough!
Fantastic food, amazing atmosphere and great service!! Fully recommend this restaurant and I will definitely be back 😎

Chilli corn chicken was bang on. Hot but not burning hot. Fresh naan & chapatis. Disappointed with lamb balti as it wasn't tender. Complaint about it & staff gave me another fresh lamb dish which was so tasty & soft. Overall it was good experience. They even charged my phone & gave us WIFI access as its in basement & no mobile signals.
This is undeniably one of the finest spots to savor Indian cuisine. I thoroughly enjoyed the food, the ambiance, and every aspect of the dining experience. What made it even more special was the delightful surprise of receiving a complimentary serving of Dal.
I went in with zero expectations and left with immense joy! One of the best Indian foods I have tasted. The tandoori platter was out of this world, every bite was full of flavour and the biriyani was the star of the show. Every morsel of rice was packed with a punch of flavour and it hit every right note you’d expect.
It has been couple of days since I visited but the taste still lingers in my mouth.
