Shibuya Soho takes over Golden Gate Dessert house former home. The spot is along Shaftsbury Avenue, on a very busy street in Chinatown. It is a small space with two floors operating. Even since it has open, there are long queues at the door when I pass by and I never had a chance to try Shibuya Soho. Chinatown has many great spots for Asian Dessert houses, Tsujiri Matcha, Candy Café, Gaza cafe, Bubblewrap and more.
It didn’t take me long to crave Japanese food again after returning from my November Japan trip! I spied Shibuya Soho on Shaftesbury Avenue one evening and thought it looked the perfect remedy for my withdrawal. Japanese in name, but not fully in effort, this two-floor restaurant-cafe offers Japanese cooking, Korean desserts, sushi and ice-cream in a Scandinavian designed space.
Quite a small, busy restaurant, we had to wait around 30 minutes to get in, but overall we enjoyed our visit.
The waiters and waitresses are polite and friendly. We ordered a small Mango bingsu and a small Oreo bingsu. It is shaved ice made out of milk, topped with the condiment you chose. It is served with a small cup of what I think is condensed milk to pour over the shaved ice to add a bit of extra sweetness. I found the Oreo bingsu to be a bit expensive, and we found that even the small ones are quite big! I'm quite glad I didn't go for the regular or I don't think I would have been able to finish. I really enjoyed the desert, and will definitely go back again.
Fantastic place with fabulous Japanese/Korean hospitality. The food is very fresh and nicely presented. Not a place to be missed if you love Japanese food. The black cod meal was very delicious and served with miso soup. By far the best highlight was impeccable service which is tough to find in London these days.
Was craving for this shaved iced and I am so glad they have it. Tried the mango and strawberry. Surprisingly, I found the strawberry better. Good portion and price is reasonable. It’s a bit difficult to get seats as it’s a vert small space but luckily a table cleared up right after we paid (was actually taking it out) and so we were able to enjoy our dessert! They also do take away (same price). They have hot items as well and might try next time - fingers crossed for available seats! Hope they can expand or have more seats as it will be a really good business for them.
- kinako (roasted soy bean) bingsu £7.50
shaved ice is quite a rare find in central london but shibuya makes a yummy one and at a relatively decent price! the main downside though is the seating space bc there are only 3-4 proper tables and since they are so popular, there is often a queue, which can get particularly long during peak times.
we debated between the mango or kinako flavour but ended up going with the latter bc the staff recommended it. i don’t have kinako often but i love the flavour bc it is subtly sweet and nutty like sesame! despite being a simple addition, the red bean elevated it so much and we were surprised there was red bean both on top and inside. the shaved ice itself was super light and a big enough portion to share between two, making it a perfect not-too-heavy dessert!
First time to try bobe tea, actually it is not my favourite to be honest. But the place is amazing and staff are nice and helpful. If u like tea with sweets like chewing gum you will like it.
This place is very busy and you will expect a line outside and inside. There’s not much seats inside so you will have to wait for 15-20 mins on average.
We ordered the match bingsu, which was quite nice! Not too sweet and we liked the red bean paste in it😋
The manager (a Chinese man) was very rude and impatient but the other two staff (the girl and another Chinese boy) were friendly.
DO NOT order cake rolls in the evening coz they turn hard when placed outside for a day :(
We seized our chance this early afternoon (2pm) when we noticed there wasn’t much of a queue outside SHIBUYA.
After waiting ~10mins, we ordered before sitting down. The seating area is small, hence, the long queues normally.
The kinako bingsu was excellent but we made the mistake of pouring the sweetened milk sauce on too early. Wait until you have eaten some of the bingsu first or else you risk just wasting the milk! We live for this roasted soybean flavour. It’s a generous one person portion.
The strawberry shortcake is probably the best we have eaten - so light and checks the right sweetness level.
Prices are slightly premium so I could only give it 4* but I would say it has a stronghold in the area.
Service is quick and polite.
So busy and long queue. But man it was worth it. The shaved ice was amazing and we shared katsu curry here and it was great too! A bit overpriced but I c an understand why. I will come back eventually if the queue isn’t bad 😂
It is a very small cake shop serving Japanese style cake and dessert. The Strawberry Cream cake and roll cream cake are fantastic. It would be even better if the cake is chilled to lower temperature for serving so that the cream is slightly harder and a better texture for serving. My friend loves her matcha latte. The seating area is a bit crowded as a small place serving high demand. It's worth a visit.
I would recommend the bingsoo here especially the strawberry cake bingsoo. It was delicious!! There is not much seating space so you may have to wait but the desserts are lovely.
My wife and I got the Korean style shaved ice (bingsu). I opted for strawberry toppings and my wife got kinako. Both were very tasty and quite rich - not at all like the kakigori we are used to from living in Japan. The serving size is quite large for one person and neither of us were able to finish. Even so, the food was very good.
There is enough seating available for about 10 people as it is a small space, and you'll need to climb stairs to be seated so I'm not sure it's all that accessible for people with disabilities. There are two toilets on site that, likewise, require going down some stairs to use.
My girlfriend and I both ordered the omurice! It was a good portion and very delicious. The sauce was very sweet and rich but delicious! They also have shaved ice which seemed to be very popular and some cakes which we didn't try but looked very pretty. The atmosphere was nice with small seating area and a lovely playlist
Had a bingsu and a croffle. The croffle was a bit too sweet for us. The bingsu could have been better if the syrup was layered and not just put on the top. The staff might have to look into keeping the small flies away as there were quite a few in the eating area.
I recently visited and overall it was a nice experience. The wait was around 20-25 minutes which is understandable as they were a busy place and quite small with only 4 tables , however personally I didn’t mind the wait as I weren’t in a rush. After around 10mins we were allowed to wait inside and sit down while we did. The meal tasted lovely and it was a perfect portion of food, not too much where it’s overbearing and not too little where you may still feel slightly hungry. The taste was a comforting and warming one and the meal itself was very satisfying and felt very homey.
The food came quickly after placing the order (you do have to place your order before being given a seat) the staff was friendly that we interacted with and I didn’t feel rushed to finish my meal even when the person I was with had already finished theirs due to me being a slow eater. if you plan on visiting you have to be willing to que if you want to dine in here.
I visited when it wasn't so busy and this is the best time to go as there is only 6 tables inside, forting 2 people for each table. This explains why there is usually a long queue outside. I tried Omurice and it comes with a nice set of pickled ginger and miso soup. The omelette and rice was great and the sauce was something I didn't expect. I thought it was curry but it was more like a sweet and sour sauce with onion and beans. Anyway it was nice just sweet, and the miso soup helped balanced it out. Was something different for me.
Best shaved ice in London. Drinks were so so. Long waiting time as place is very tiny. Tables were sticky and sofa dated so really not the most comfortable place. Staff were very polite everytime we visited.
The strawberry shortcake was delicious but there seems to be 6 2-person tables and that makes for pretty long wait times on the weekend, if you want to dine in. Staff was very friendly and like I said, the food was delicious though!
