What more could you possibly ask for - Great pastries, great coffee, great staff. I' give 6 stars if I could.

Found this beautiful bakery while visiting Portobello Market. I have to say that the Pistachio, Apricot & Rose Cake was the best cake I've ever eaten in my life! The only down is that it's quite busy. Highly recommended.

With a stunning and cosy place at the heart of Portobello, Gail's have the most desired and delicious breads in the city! The place is always full at lunch time and the food is amazing

Gets quite busy on weekend mornings but the food is top notch for a chain.
Also this outlet is not kept very clean. From the bread machine to the floor - it's not cleaned regularly or hygiene level maintained but the food is top notch for a bakery.
Coffee is good although it was served slightly tepid. But did I mention the food.
Recommended for local and tourists.

After the disappointment of Starbucks, Gail was a happy relief l. Good to know that there are well laid out and spacious coffee places around here. Coconut macaroon was nice to call out specifically. The décor was good to eyes.

I wish I had this kind of bakery in my Country... Simple outstanding! Everything looks fresh and delicious... So I couldn't resist... Starting with a cinnamon puff and ending with a humongous and mouth watering chicken baguette with almonds! Really really good.

Gail’s is my go-to spot when I’m in need of comfort. I enjoy taking a break in their large seating area on chilly days; even when it's busy, I feel I can get the privacy I need, and visiting in the early evening, when Portobello Road’s shops begin to close, is a guarantee for peace and quiet.

Their cappuccino is the best I’ve had in Notting Hill so far: topped with plenty of creamy milk, and made with coffee delicate enough to please my tastebuds. The food in display on the counter looks beautiful, as if it had come straight out of a cookbook photoshoot. Every time I visit, my only regret is not being able to take all the cakes home; I haven't tried any of them yet, as I'd find it extremely hard to just choose one, but always swear to myself I'll come back for them.

What I have tried is their artisan bread. Several of the breads, in fact: I often pop in on my way home from work, on days when soup's on the menu for dinner and I'm longing for more than the usual supermarket-bought baguette. So far, I've picked a different type of bread every time; mostly variations on wholemeal bread, which is my favourite, but I've also had their potato and rosemary bread and loved it - think of a similar taste to focaccia, minus the lashings of oil and salt.

The staff will offer to slice the bread in store for you, and although I now know that's the norm for them, the first time it happened it felt like a small "wow" moment (long gone are the days of wrestling with thick crusts and scattering crumbs all over the table...). They'll also equip you with a rather large carrier bag to take it home - another godsend if you're walking long distances -, and make sure you pick up a loyalty card before you leave, because the deal's pretty sweet. A free loaf after ten purchases? I'll be back to rack up more stamps as fast as my legs can take me.

This is THE place to visit for breakfast or lunch. Can't believe it's a chain of over ten bakeries. The ambience and general feeling you get is of a small family run bakery.

The hot chocolate is the best I've had in the city, really hot and chocolatey :). The cheese & ham crossaint is a must have. The desserts look really tempting and we would love to try them all out.

Gail's is a dangerous place. Everything looks delicious. You just want to take home all the bread and all the cakes and all the cookies and all the biscuits.

Their yoghurt is amazing.

Great coffee, but brunch was average.

Busy busy busy place.

Carrot cake is amazing. Lots of fresh "artisan" bread, chocolate brownies, pastries and other beautiful goodies but my favourite has to be the carrot cake which is absolutely amazing!

The best americano I ever had in London! Most of the coffee shops either have the Kenya kind of beans which are too bitter or serve coffee with too much water. And the hot cross buns are to die for.

This is a great place to stop to people watch. It can get a little busy in there at times as it's smack bang in the middle of Portobello Road (antique lover, Notting Hill film lover and touristy heaven) With a nice cup of coffee and a chocolate and pistachio financier I blissfully watched the busy London road pass me by for half an hour. The staff were lovely and the displays of baked goods were so inviting, I could have happily sat for the entire day to try everything. My personal favourite from there is the sausage roll, heated up which melts the layer of cheese inside and the perfect pastry melts so beautifully in your mouth...ahhhh....droooool. Anyway, where was I? Ah yes, I chose modestly but couldn't stop my mouth from saying "I'll have a cinnamon bun to go as well please" that was a delicious indulgent moment later too. I'm desperate to try their brioche pizzas next time. Gorgeous produce, average prices for an artisan bakery but the quality shines through.

Great bakery. Lovely atmosphere and staff. Went on Friday around 8:30 and there was a small queue but it went fast. Tables inside and outside. Clean toilet & baby changing facilities. Reasonably priced. Will definitely come back.

I loved it. Good food, good drinks, nice place to take a break from the crowds on Portobello Road. Prices are reasonable all things considered. They have a fairly complete lighteni and sandwiches which are far superior to what can be found at coffee shops - although their coffee is also superb. Friendly staff and great service - highly recommended.

Staff were kind and helpful while taking your order. We had a nice breakfast at this location, paid a bit more than what we expected but was okay. 2 Things that could be done better were; having the option to warm up our pastries, therefore enjoying them more. And, more pastry on sausage roll would definitely be nicer, see image attached. Especially as its not warm, you end up eating a cold sausage with some pastry on it.

Love breakfast here. Sausage roll, oats and coffees were all the perfect choice for a cold morning. Don't skip on the jams.

I like this branch as it is spacious and nice to sit in and enjoy my food, staff are always nice here as well. The reason I gave a 4 stars is last time I tried the chicken Parmesan bun and It didn’t taste nice As chicken was dry.

If Gail’s is a London institution, then Gail’s on portobello road is its grand temple. It’s the pit stop for ecstatic shoppers who just struck a bargain at the fur shop, the tourists taking a break from the photo shoots, and the locals craving a little sit down reverie with an appetizing morsel. Gail’s on portobello road is always buzzing with life and action. Good luck finding a place to sit on a Saturday early afternoon, at the paroxysm of market hours. The food is always the same, and always good. My all time favorites: - The borequitas: these little puff pastries filled with feta cheese and olive and so delicious that they sell out in the early hours. They’re oily, crunchy, and very satisfying, despite their small size - The mozzarella and pesto focaccia: this is a sandwich that will make you say grace to its great Italian inventors at every bite - The honey cake: a little delicatessen, this small piece is less heavy than the rest of the sugary spread, but definitely hits the spot

Lovely place with the most welcoming staff. Especially Natalia, who worked as a barista was so niceee and made us feel so welcomed and was more than willing to fulfill every need we all had. Will definitely be back, hoping to be served by Natalia again! :)

New favourite bakery in all of London! Each item we tried (there were a lot) was to die for. Pastries are constantly being made freshly and there is so many to choose from. If you are planning to go to Notting Hill, skip your breakfast and eat your way through the menu.

Outstanding bakery. Every Gail's is great and this is no exception - cakes and pastries are the thing to order, along with a coffee. All perfect. Pistachio cake an interesting choice and not too sweet (see pictured).

This is the best Gail's Bakery I've visited for eating in. It's spacious, bright and has lots of seating on the ground floor and basement. The normal spread is available: breads, pastries, savoury items as well as a limited hot menu, salads from the fridge and drinks - juices, coffee. I had salmon and scrambled eggs on a slice of thick, dark toast. It was a generous portion that I couldn't finish, salmon was fresh. Chai latte is nice, but not spicy. WiFi was reliable, there's a loo downstairs and service was good. Not wheelchair accessible unfortunately. Very limited gluten free options which may sell out. Delivery available: min £30, order before 12pm for next day delivery.

Let’s get the bad out of the way first: When it‘s busy, there‘s a bit of a wait and the food/coffee might not be hot any more when it arrives. Improving on coordination or employing more staff could help. The good: the corn pancakes were great. There is a great selection of seeded bread as well as cakes and muffins.
