Despite the big bar crowd we got a table and a really nice team experience. Great food too. We'd surely go back if ever again in the neighborhood.

I went there on. Wednesday evening and the crowd was good, nice and relaxed not pretentious. The food and wine were good and didn't take long to arrive either. One of the better tapas restaurants I have been to in London.

We were pleasantly surprised by the tapas selection at Camino in Southwark, the baby aubergine one being absolutely delicious! We were served with a smile and the place was tastefully decorated. Looking forward to trying out more of their drinks selection the next time!

Good tapas, i liked the croquetas de jamon, the octopus, the patatas bravas and tried the 4 jamons selections. All were delicious. My friends tried the cheeses and they were good too.

Camino is a great place to go for Tapas and drinks, especially after work - It gets absolutely packed! There isn't a wide selection of Tapas, however, the few Tapas that Camino does have are great! I highly recommend the usual Spanish Tapas - Pan con tomate, Manchego cheese, Jamón Ibérico Bellota Etiqueta Negra, Gambas ajillo, Pimientos de Padrón, Huevos rotos and Patatas bravas. If you're not hungry yet you're up for a drink and you're around Southwark, do go to Camino! The restaurant itself is very well decorated and the outside area is fantastic to just sit and enjoy your gin cocktail or glass of wine!

The name Camino means ‘path’ in Spanish, and the buzzing London restaurant chain was named so after owner Richard Bigg’s took a journey of his own across Spain and decided that this cuisine was what he wanted to pour his heart into as opposed to his city job as a trader. In 2007 Richard and his business partner Nigel Foster opened their first restaurant in Kings Cross with their menu focussing on gorgeous authentic Spanish tapas and drinks. Their ingredients are largely imported from the best Spanish suppliers, and combined with the talent of Head Chef Nacho de Campo and his Basque Country roots, the success that followed is no surprise.

We were given a wonderful opportunity to sample wines of the same style from different regions of Spain made by Matias Calleja from Beronia in the North West of Spain and Beatriz Paniagu from Finca Constancia from Castelo, at Camino Bankside.    These were served with an array of courses each carefully matched to the wine, by chef Nacho del Campo.   We found the ‘crib sheet’ whilst we were sipping a delicious glass of cava, and it did make us smile – hopefully you can see why!

I have to admit, I've never fully got on board with tapas.

Now, this isn't anything against Spanish food - I love a paella as much as the next hombre, and my almost religious devotion to cured meats reached a zenith when I waited patiently for four months as I succeeded in doing my own.

But the small tapas plates have always troubled me as they seemingly offer such staggeringly bad value for money.

The (admittedly few) times I've eaten tapas in London have always left me unaccountably poorer, and, more importantly, still hungry!

So a trip to Camino for a Zomato bloggers' meet-up presented an opportunity for my somewhat stubborn foodie mind to be changed.

Tucked behind the Tate Modern on Bankside, this branch of the small chain is set over two floors in the shiny new retail units set below a many-storied office building, wonderfully called the Blue Fin Building.

Inside it is all clean lines and polished surfaces, with little hints of Spain jumping out in the form of patterned wall tiles and Iberian produce stacked around the bar area.

But the décor is really by-the-by; I was here to eat…and it seems to learn, also.

Waiting for us next to a succulent looking full leg of jamón (24-months old ICYW) was chef Nacho del Campo, ready to give us a carving masterclass (something now being offered at Camino).

As well as being hugely knowledgeable about all things porcine, we also discovered Nacho was incredibly patient as a bunch of enthusiastic amateurs began to hack away at this wonderful piece of meat with a very sharp knife!

One by one we attempted to carve the perfect slice, with little success - it really is a tough thing to master.

Whilst waiting our turn to wield the knife there was plenty to keep us quiet, including creamy Manchego cheese with quince jelly, baby squid with aioli (not at all overcooked) the most incredibly moreish tomato bread (think bruschetta but so much more) and a potato tortilla.

But special mention must go to the padrón peppers, quite an on-trend menu item at the moment, but done perfectly here. We were warned that these peppers would contain one or two with real kick. I went through about two dozen before hitting the padrón grenade but when I got there it was eye-wateringly spicy. Amazing!

After our carving we then had the chance to try different hams from the Camino range, from 20-month to 32-month in age, before they wheeled out the three-year-old 'Rolls Royce' of jamón, the Bellota Etiqueta Negra. (Great to say, even better to eat).

For the first time in my life, I was full from eating Spanish tapas food; it even got to the point where I said no to more. This was quite the turn-up!

It must be noted that we were there for an especially arranged event and were therefore probably being deliberately fattened up, but I did take the chance to peek at what was being served to that evening's regular diners and everything looked very generous.

The best thing about this experience, I believe, is that it wasn't just created as a one-off for a bunch of food bloggers, but is something now available for everyone to book.

For £30 they're offering the evening's carving masterclass where you're able to take what you carve (tip: carve it real thick to get more!) and also take home a full leg if you fancy (although that will cost you upwards of £100).

I liked Camino. It's not fine dining by any means, but it feels authentic and is a perfect antidote to the high street likes of La Tasca.

More importantly, it has signalled a thawing in my relationship with tapas.

I was invited by Zomato to attend Camino’s Jamón carving Masterclass at Southbank with fellow foodie bloggers. It was a fun and educational evening to learn everything we need to know about the Spanish Jamón (ham) as well as learning how to serve/prepare them. The Master Class was held upstairs by chef Nacho del Campo with a demonstration of the 3 year old Jamón Iberico Cebo which is a black Iberian pig from Salamanca in Spain. It was interesting to learn that the curing process takes at least 12 months and then left with a stamp to identify the date of slaughter. We all had a go at carving the jamón and it wasn’t as difficult as I thought it would be. We were shown other types of jamón being carved; ranging in months between them and prices. We sampled one that was nicknamed the Rolls Royce and I can see why this jamón got its nickname as it had a deep, rich, aged flavour to it. You can tell when the ham is of good quality when the fat just melts away when you rub it between your fingertips. We were also treated to Spanish tapas of peppers, cheeses, finger slices of flat bread and more.

I loved the tapas at the newly opened Camino Bankside when John, Joe, Jodi, and I (yes, we're the awful "J"-named friends) went for the soft launch a couple of months ago. So when Zomato asked me if I'd like to try a jamon-carving masterclass, I jumped at the opportunity to learn from Camino's highly-skilled and knowledgeable Chef Nacho del Campo (sidenote: AMAZING name, no?).

After chatting over a glass of chilled cava, we all had a chance to carve our own slices of jamon under Chef Nacho del Campo's watchful eye and, as predicted, I was embarrasingly bad at it. (Let's just say that I definitely shouldn't quit my day job in publishing to become a professional jamon carver ... that is, unless I felt like, super passionate about it or something.)

It was really challenging to achieve the perfect, wafer-thin slices that Chef Nacho deftly produced, despite his insistence that I simply, "lightly drag the knife through with a back and forth motion - it requires no effort!" My "slices" more resembled wedges, much to the amusement of the other chef at my elbow. "I'll have that one, thanks," he joked, as my face turned red.

There’s a lot of butchery related posts on the blog at the moment, which makes me very happy! So far I’ve written mostly about beef, but recently I had my first experience of learning about and carving jamón (Spanish ham). I was kindly invited to a Zomato meet-up at Camino Southbank, so I assumed it would be an evening of tapas and sangria. But actually it was more of an educational evening about jamón, which was ideal, as I love to expand my knowledge of meats and how to prepare/serve them. And there was a lot of jamón tasting, of course!

Okay, who knew there was an amazing corner packed full of delicious restaurants in Bankside?! Well not me, until I made my way on a rainy Wednesday to Camino Bankside. Zomato invited me down to their legendary food blogger #zomatomeetup to try out Camino’s amazing selection of jamón and learn how to carve it, a mini masterclass if you will. Yep, when I got the invite I was pretty excited/nervous to meet all these new people – Spoiler alert everyone was so fun & friendly! “¡Socorro, jamón!” Is the punchline that almost always comes up whenever we’re in a Spanish speaking country, or recounting to others my stepmother’s almost hilarious grasp of the language. She was on a six-week trip in Costa Rica around fifteen years ago, driving along a dirt track, when a wild pig suddenly darted in front of the vehicle causing her to scream “help, ham”!

London seems to be building up a very nice collection of excellent tapas bars.  Up in my favourite Clerkenwell you’ve got Morito and Iberica, Central London is dominated by Barrafina and Brindisa, and finally Camino is very well represented in the City and Southbank.  The newest addition to the Camino chain is Camino Bankside, minutes’ walk from Southwark station, behind the Tate Modern.  Not a bad location, and an area I am not very familiar with (but certainly liked what I saw).

Quiet Eating

Camino, a little bit of a Zomato treat.  The full staff of quiet eating were invited along with a small select group of food bloggers to a ham carving event. We were here to learn how to butcher a piece of meat.  Even though one of us deals with the meat trade (he charges an arm and a leg for his services), one of us is innocent and free of any experience.  Engineer that she is, machines tend not to be too fleshy.

For £30 you can go over there and have your own jamon slicing experience with tapas. Of the tapas there was the fried baby squid, which were were incredibly crispy and tender. There were also the classic fried mini peppers and then the manchego and membrillo. The hams were of excellent quality and definitely make it a unique dining experience!

I was looking forward to tapas at Camino, a newly opened place in the Blue Fin building. The food did not disappoint, although I was a bit suspicious of the jamón plate - the slices looked too regular to have been hand cut! But the ham was good.

The tomato bread was tasty, a bit smoky and crisp. The chipirones tapa had a bit too much batter, but was nice with mayo. We were lucky with the Padrón peppers - we got three hot ones! The highlight of the meal was the octopus, pan-fried with potatoes and pimentón, very nice. The ham croquetas and the tortilla de patatas were as expected.

For dessert, we went for turrón and saffron ice cream, which were both very nice. They also have interesting sorbets (gin & tonic and blood orange).

Overall, a good Spanish meal, although a bit expensive at £98 with two large glasses of Albariño.

Popular tapas bar and restaurant, Camino, launched its sixth London venue last month at The Blue Fin Building on Canvey Street. Furthering restaurateur Richard Bigg’s vision of casual Spanish dining in Britain, Camino Bankside offers Londoners more opportunity to enjoy Executive Chef Nacho Del Campo’s smart menu of tapas, sharing platters and more in a stylish setting with plenty of outdoor seating.

I'm one of the most indecisive people when it comes to ordering food from a menu. I like ordering lots of different dishes and then sharing it out amongst whoever I'm with - that way I can have a nibble of this and that and I don't suffer the dreaded food envy if I make a bad choice. For this reason tapas is one of my favourite types of foods - so when I was invited to the launch of Camino's newest outpost in Southwark, hungry and excited, I put on my loosest trousers and frogmarched myself straight there.

Good food and service. The lamb dish is really good. They offer Free meal and ice cream for kid with a good portion. But the set menu for £20 was a bit overpriced as every dishes were small.

It's amazing! Beautiful tapas... an affordable lunch menu.. gorgeous selection of meats and wine. The staff are so very attentive, polite, and knowledgeable. The outdoor seating area is lovely... as is the inside. Clean, chic ... but it's really all about that amazing food. I didn't know I loved Spanish food till I ate here.

Came here for lunch during the football match between England and Panama. Suffice to say they were very busy but still managed to serve us in a timely fashion. They recommend around 3 dishes each per person as it's all tapas. I recommend the ceviche as that was my favourite dish. My least favourite was the duck breast (too much garlic) and tomato bread (literally tomato on bread). Our waiter was very conscientious and looked after us throughout the busy atmosphere. His recommendation of their Spanish summer drink was also spot on. Forgot what it was called but it started with a P!

Nice place, we went on a gift voucher. Food was good, had to change some of the dishes on the tapas set menu as my partner is veggie but that wasn't a problem. I would sat wine prices are bit on the high side but it was typical London prices. Enjoyed it though. Staff were all very nice. I would go again.

Good place to experience some Spanish tapas, prices are decent and service is helpful and fast. Some tapas differ a bit from what you can find in Spain if you're used to it, and it's in general more spicy and saucy than usual. The restaurant also offers some imported meat dishes depending on the day, but I haven't tried them. I'd recommend it mostly for someone who's not familiar with Spanish cuisine and wants to try something new.

Atmospheric interior, friendly, helpful staff, amazing menu (lots of meat!) Tapas style, so small portions, need 3-4 dishes to fill you up. Each and everyone of the dishes was absolutely delicious, tasty and authentic. Beautiful glass of spanish wine. Perfect place for a date, even on a Friday evening (gets a bit loud though)

My first time ever in Camino (Bankside) and it won’t be my last. The venue was welcoming and comfortable for leisurely dining but perhaps slightly more suited to a date night. Staff were incredibly friendly and professional without being intrusive and the food was good and competitively priced. The cheese fritter with tomato jam is definitely worth a second and third visit.

Today we went for brunch at Camino Bankside. The food was really good and the fillet steak was the best. My sister had the paella and loved it. The staff were really friendly and helpful. I would definitely revisit soon!
