Wonderful spot. Coffee is on point and among the best I‘ve ever had while in the UK. Very delicious breakfast and friendly staff. Keep up the good work!
Great food, great service, and worth the queue. I recommend "The Convict".
Fantastic coffee, great service and amazing foods. My new favorite brunch/coffee place in London! Love this place much ❤
Delicious coffee and brunch options. Super friendly and lovely with kids
Ok so BRUNCH is just a thing that my friends and I love doing. We have tried various places in Central London along with Dubai, New York Los Angeles, Mauritius and other countries all around the world. This might sound seriously extreme for a review, but I can honestly say this place is the BEST brunch I've had in the world. That is not an exaggeration! The coffee is unbelievable, the Sweet Maria is INSANE! I just wished I lived closer and I would be there every day!! I've noticed a few other brunch spots such as MUD Cafe trying to coffee Milks concept with their Parmesan hash - it no where near as good!!
Amazing coffee and amazing food. Everyone in there is supper friendly. Don't know what beans where in the filter today but it was delicious!
The milk cafe was absolutely delicious. The waiters are reallly friendly but one thing you should get there early because there is a massive queue
An absolutely wonderful place to start your day with the best and most indulging breakfast made with the freshest ingredients and with the help of a very friendly and professional staff as well.
Amazing place in London. I love the food. can’t wait to come back here again. Congratulations to the staff.
At the end of Balham’s bustling Hildreth Street is Milk. Chances are you’ve heard of it: it’s serving the kind of brunch perfectly catered to the hip young professionals and insta-conscious yummy mummies that frequent the area. You know the deal, in-house baked bread, locally sourced produce and free-range eggs. I’m not hating – this place is legit, and the food actually tastes as good as it looks.
On a lazy English holiday there is nothing better then to hang out with family and friends over a brunch. We heard a lot about place called "M1lk". Puzzled why their logo reads "M1lk " and his would one pronounce it 😵😵😵 built the suspense in us to try it.
It's just a minutes walk away from Behlam tube station.
Ambience4/5:it's a small place inside with really long queues outside. They have some sitting outside too.
It's a very cosy and a very buzzy place. A neon pink "M1lk" sign hangs on the white brick wall behind a counter adorned with some amazing mouth watering cakes. Framed butterflies, old photos, floor to ceiling windows and an open kitchen all add to the warm English vibes this place gives.
Food4.5/5: Food is delicious, filling and worth waiting for in long queue.
Beverages
Coffee and Macchiato were perfect 😍. Blueberry, banana and apple smoothie was served in a glass bottle and delicious. The hot chocolate was dark, rich, mind blowing and out of the world.
Food - Egg Benedict with bacon was to die for probably the best in London!! Poached egg with Salmon
Crumpets, honey, goat curd and lavender were all awesome. The food was present very stylishly and tasted great ❤.
Service4/5: Only queuing up the line is a problem but once you are in, then the atmosphere, food, open kitchen all get on to you!!!
Staff is very friendly and service is excellent.
If you are bored of your standard breakfast slop this is the place for you. It's easy to see why the weekend brunch crowds flock to Milk😊😊😊.
Awesome and very popular cafe. Lovely modern, airy and pleasant whitewash interior. Despite being very busy we were seated promptly and not rushed at all during the entirety. The menu is on point, with just enough options to satisfy everyone without being overwhelming. We had the corn fritters which were delicious but could've happily enjoyed anything else on the brunch menu! Will definitely return.
A great conversation was sparked on Twitter last week when I prompted friends and followers for Aussie brunch places that are off the radar (or mine at least) after the success of Daisy Green in Marble Arch (review here). One that people seemed to be really fighting for was somewhere called Milk in Balham. I’d never been to Balham – I didn’t even know where it was or what line I would need to take. Catching up with MattTheList recently – he backed up the place and said that it was down in our neck of the woods (souf London). So this weekend I made the trek.
There is usually a queue for this place but we got so lucky on a Saturday morning.
We both opted for the Breakfast Burger which was sausage ( in a patty) bacon, hash browns, scrambled egg and some form of tomato relish.
It was just what i needed on a Saturday morning!
Great food, great atmosphere and great service.
We had to wait for about 15 minutes to get a table but it was well worth the wait, I had the english breakfast muffin and my partner had the eggs Benedict and they were both outstanding. My partner particularly enjoyed the burnt butter hollandaise and the strawberry, orange and ginger smoothie. It is more expensive than usually would pay for breakfast but well worth it for a treat!
We will undoubtably be returning to Milk perhaps for lunch to sample more of the menu.
Perhaps the best eggs Benedict or rather Eggs Betty as Milk have opted to call it on the menu I've had in London. I'd tried to go for brunch one Saturday at Milk but alas the queue snaking down the street was a little too long for my rumbling stomach.
As luck would have it my friend and I were looking for a breakfast spot near home and it seems a Thursday morning is prime time to grab a table at Milk.
Starting the day with a Flat White for me and an Earl Grey tea for my pal we eagerly awaited out Eggs Betty mine with dry cured bacon and his with smoked salmon, draped in a butter hollandaise with perfectly poached eggs, it's easy to see why the weekend brunch crowds flock to Milk. I'll definitely be back, though probably again on a weekday!
Brilliant! Loved the food! It's a little too small, but that adds to its personality. The service was decent and friendly. Would love to go back after the refurbishment.
Really delicious but incredibly busy for brunch! Make sure you get there early, or be prepared to queue and order the hash brown poacher if you have a hangover!
Balham is all about brunching and M1lk is the best in the business. If you like great food, beards and patient queuing come and get involved.
I must confess that my idea of a gentle awakening in the morning is a nice cup of tea listening to BBC Radio 2. M1lk, a daytime cafe in Balham offers quite the opposite experience. From artisan speciality coffees to innovative cuisine at breakfast and lunch, you’re more likely to hear deep house playing on the speakers at 9am rather than Chris Evans.
I've heard a lot about m1lk recently - great reviews and massive queues. Brunch in Balham with Amy Allen seemed too good an opportunity not to see if we could squeeze in and get a table for 2, and luck being on our side we got to sit straight down!
I ordered the cornbread with honey, some kind of Australian chai drink and a smoothie. The smoothie was fantastic, huge, and felt so healthy I could've cried. The cornbread, while tasty and surprisingly good value, was average and I couldn't help but wonder what all the fuss was about. However Amy's glowing review of her food is clearly why this place is so popular, as I've never seen a girl so happy with eggs in a frying pan.
Worth checking out but not if you're gonna be queueing for half an hour, and definitely get a smoothie.
On a little (massive) trip (trek) to Balham at a godearthly hour on Saturday morning, M1lk was our brunch location of choice. We were not the only ones with the bright idea, and the queue snaked outside the brightly lit interior into the chilly outside. With all its tiny dogs, flower stalls, giggling toddlers, and pretty people, Balham was in a fine mood that morning and we were about to be too.
Having eventually been seated, we grabbed our menus and stuck in. Today was a day for pancakes, poached eggs and crushed avocado. It was also a day for not having any cash and needing to leg it over to the cash point around the corner because M1lk doesn’t take cards, although considering what we were about to order, I shouldn’t complain about a little extra exercise.
Jumping off our high chairs and over to the neon signed bar, we ordered our brunch feast, being carefully observed by Jesus and his 3 wise men (12 dead butterflies)! Flat white’s were a given and never a pair to turn down a milk bottle, we had to order a smoothie too because obviously things taste far better in novelty glassware...
The eggs Benedict arrived in a more deconstructed form than expected, still tasty, but since when is the piping hot hollandaise sauce not slathered over the top to keep the eggs warm?! Observing fellow diners, it appeared that our order might have been somewhat lost in translation!
The buckwheat pancake arrived with poached pear, clotted cream and crumbled rich tea biscuit, smothered in maple syrup. Yes, this was definitely the more indulgent option but hey, I made it south of the river and was in need of a reward.
Never one to miss the decorative intricacies, of course I noticed the suspended pram! M1lk is a very popular brunch choice and the queue was still going strong when we left. Laid back and oozing with friendliness, even the most hung-over diner will be cheered up by the playful charm of this neighbourhood spot. Just make sure you're clear about your order!
This place is amazing. Always busy, great local spot, yummy food, eggs bene is delicious and look out for the specials.
Coffee was amazing it's hard to find a good soy latte! Eggs Benedict was to die for meal wasn't too large seeing I am not a big eater.
Really awesome place. Incredibly friendly staff - fantastic fresh coffee and tea. I'm definitely getting a loyalty card!
Great coffee, prompt friendly staff. Often so busy I can't get a table. One of my faves in Balham!
I have been looking for a decent brunch and coffee place in South London. So my search took me to Balham to try M1LK . The place is an Australian coffee shop from start to end in the heart of Balham. Relax, rustic, irreverent, laid back, alternative techno music to pump your day, and small but still cozy
Be prepared to wait for a seat if you go on the weekend and bring cash.
Had the poached eggs and bacon on sourdough which was tasty. Coffee courtesy of workshop coffee company was really good, would go back for the coffee alone.
A fellow diner had a weekend special, pancakes with pears and crumble (I believe) which gave me food envy.
Will definitely be going back.
As soon as my food arrived I knew, there and then, that this is the place I'll be frequenting for my Saturday brunch fix. Small in size, big in reputation and it most certainly lives up to it.
With the service being super fast, my poached eggs on sourdough bread did not disappoint, with a side order of smashed avo that was so fresh it instantly perks you up.
Ideal for a hangover brunch to chat with your friends about the happenings of the evening before, this place really is on point. Also if your in need of a thirst quench get one of the pint smoothies, fresh and zingy (if that's a word?) you'll definitely be thanking me later. Cannot fault this place at all.
What: Cafe
Where: Balham
Value: £5pp
Food Review: To drink, a flat white for coffee lovers alike with pretty latte artwork. For non coffee lovers, smoothies (in milk bottles) and proper tea is avilable ( with cute milk bottle). Simple salads and brunch are also available, potentially a next time.
Settings Review: Located down balham high street with not many foodie places nearby. The sign of the establishment has.not been changed but this does not matter and adds to the laidback charm of the cafe. With random butterflies above the counter and an open kitchen, milks interior has a friendly, come on in interior.
Positives: great coffee, friendly staff
Negatives: small, more cake choices
3 Word Review: idyllic little cafe

I went to this place for breakfast this morning and it was really good fun. We arrived at 9.00 on a Tuesday morning, we were informed there was a 15 minute wait (which was accurate), so we queued (seems to be the one thing in London at the moment) and in we went.
The first thing you'll notice is how friendly and attentive the staff. A great example to so many other restaurants in central that think they can be rude, just because of great location. They played some really fun tunes too.
I ate Heuvos Al Benny (Chorizo sausage, poached eggs, peppers and chilli); it looked spectacular and tasted amazing! Perfect poached eggs! My friend ordered pancakes with berries and cream and again, it was delightful. The staffs were only too happy to bring us extra maple syrup too! The place could maybe do with a lick of paint, it certainly isn't swanky, but the food was great and a wonderful start to the day! I'd recommend the coffees too.
You always get a good feeling about a place that has the standard long queue of people waiting eagerly to get in there... almost wondering what all the fuss is about for having to stand around while your stomach is making those hideous grumbling sounds. No guesses as to how I was feeling.
M1LK. Located in a fantastic little pocket of South West London, not too far from the ever cool Clapham and only a short train ride from Fulham Broadway, is certainly a trendy wee spot to hang out on a Sunday.
The fact that this hipster cafe is run by Australians is definitely double brownie points in my books. As they say there is nothing like a bit of home away from home and I do need to feel this connection every now and again.
The sweet corn fritters caught my attention. With added lashes of bacon, a dollop of my favourite - avocado, grilled Halloumi, drizzled with a dash of lime and some mild kasundi relish. My friend had the pouched eggs on sourdough toast which looked equally as good. Decent sized servings especially if you have an appetite to fill. You must also try the juice blended fruit smoothies which come in pretty large milk bottles (seems to be the rage) I had the Lauren which consisted of banana, strawberry and Mango and looking around the room seemed to be a hit with almost everyone.
If you are a lover of coffee - which I assume most are these days then you wont be disappointed with their antipodean style that they have on offer. Did I also mention that they bake cakes? Although I missed the opportunity to trial one I did eye up the huge sized lamington looking very edible. Originating from Australia as a famous dessert and made from sponge, chocolate sauce and coconut, im guessing they would be hard to find anywhere else around London so I recommend you do try one from here and let me know what you think!
Not surprised at all by the fact that this place is highly popular and always busy. A great place to meet up with a group of friends on the weekend with no fuss, casual surroundings but a word of warning - get their early unless you are happy to wait around....it will still be totally worth the wait.
We had a lovely breakfast at this place, and definitely consider it as one of the top places in the area. We tried the avocado sweet corn fritters and poached eggs, teamed with a chai latte and flat white respectively. Every single entree was amazing and delicious. The only thing that is probably wrong with this place is the cash-only policy, and the absence of table service. But even this could work in your favour if you are in a hurry, I definitely recommend a visit.
This place is a small one and the atmosphere is always quite pleasing. The décor is also good and the staff is always very polite. The service is also a pretty standard one. When I went there, I decided to have eggs which were absolutely delicious. The coffee that we had was equally good and you must try this place some time.
I visited this place expecting a great brunch and I wasn't disappointed. The only thing which was a bit of a let-down was the long queue outside, but one we got in it was worth the wait. I ordered baked eggs which were a true delight. They were extremely delicious and well-prepared. The coffee here is also great as well as the smoothies. I would definitely return for a great meal.
I recommend people this place for its supreme quality food, especially the breakfast menu which is truly incredible and well worth a taste. The place is quite popular and you should expect a long queue on the weekend. The only letdown would be the small interiors. The triangle style seating arrangement is pretty uncomfortable.
But other than that pretty good!
I totally like this place. The quality of food is always impeccable though the menu is a small one but every dish is executed in a perfect way. I had halloumi cheese which was delicious. The atmosphere is always really nice and you must try this restaurant sometime. Trust me people, it is definitely worth a visit.
I went here expecting a great lunch with my partner and was not at all disappointed. The food as well as the drinks here are delicious and quite appetizing. The menu is not that extensive, but the food is well-prepared and packed with flavors. The staff is efficient on busy days as well and are extremely welcoming. There is usually a queue to get seated, so expect to wait. I would definitely recommend this place.
The portions are more than generous at the restaurant. The ambiance is lovely. i personally recommend the apple with mint tea. the food is delicious. the staff is friendly and helpful. The place is quite popular and hence the long queue. the food is worth the wait as it is delightful.
Although the food is usually delicious and filling, it is generally too expensive considering the poor ambiance. The place is always full, and one has to wait a long time in the queue. Moreover, there is absolutely no leg space, and it becomes very squashy. The staff does not accept cards for payment- only cash. The experience can be better on days with lesser crowd. In short, I would recommend that the venue be increased in size.
For breakfast the meal was prepared with well sourced ingredients, lovely bread and fantastic olive oil.
The coffee was amazing, with great flavors, properly made at the right temperature, and the selection of coffee beans was also lovely as it had a mild nuttiness to it.
It is a little pricey as every place like that is .The place is popular, trendy and provides good quality ingredient, so it is not such a burden.
What made the breakfast taste bitter then? Well, we liked everything so much we asked for an extra slice of bread to mop up the plate,we were charged an extra £1.25! Now, as far as I know, wanting to mop up the plate is taken as a compliment and so charging an hefty extra for a compliment was discouraging and for a newly opened place,it felt both greedy and inappropriate.
I will not be tempted to go there for food again ,but i would still go there for coffee.
This is one of my favorite places for breakfast. Their smoothies are to die for, so tasty and perfectly blended. Egg Yolks are cooked just right- runny and textured at correct color and temperature. Take home a Laming ton or an Anzac Biscuit for an afternoon treat. On the downside they take only cash and in long queue, rummaging for cash gets challenging and repulsive!
This is a small place offering nicely cooked meals. We ordered the corn fritter with bacon which tasted wonderful. But the place seemed to be over-crowded, which spoilt the mood a bit for us. But overall, It was an awesome experience and I would love to stop by again when it is likely to be less crowded!
I went there for casual get togethers with friends, so basically for munchies and to my surprise it was wonderful. The food they serve is so delicious. Their presentation is actually quite appealing. That can also be because of the good ambiance they have which invokes a lot of good vibes within.
I would suggest you to go for breakfast since their menu is something which is very different yet tasty.
And don't forget to order the coffee too, they serve superb coffee blended very well.
The place offers an extensive and delectable variety of breakfast options. The place usually has a long queue to get seated, but once you get in its worth the wait. The place has a great lively atmosphere which makes it an even more fun experience. I think it is a place that serves the best breakfasts in town.
This place was outside my standard Central London eating area. But it was an awesome experience overall. The place is pretty popular and therefore there is a long queue outside , but let me tell you the wait does not go to waste as the food is pretty delightful! The ambiance is very casual and chilled out.
The menu in my opinion is very extensive and one might get a little confused but not to worry , the efficient staff is at your service! The staff was well informed and the dishes were served promptly. The prices too are very reasonable.
I loved it and am going to rush back!
A nice place for breakfast. the only place i found where they serve fresh fruit smoothies for breakfast. The eggs are free range, the bread is toasted sourdough, and everything for breakfast is on your plate, it just looks a little more exotic and tastes so fresh and yummy.
This place was quite popular. Been there twice and always struggled for a place but eventually sat outside. We were originally seated inside but were suddenly told that this was reserved (but it had no sign saying so). Food and drinks came quickly and i ordered for the only dish which did not have cheese in it. However, when it arrived, it was totally covered in cheese. They quickly brought me another one but this time it was drenched in BBQ sauce. It seems the waiters are not at all trained here.
I went here after few days from when it got opened , it was not at all a nice experience for me. The food was below average and the quantity was also not that very great. The staff seemed pretty nice and that is going to be the only reason why I am going to give this place another try.
A place which has such tempting and mouthwatering food, one cannot resist looking over the neighbors plate and gorge on the perfect looking food! EVERYTHING is gorge worthy here. After scanning through everyones orders we asked for an egg benedict dish with hollandaise sauce uplifting it so well! Also ordered a strawberry-orange smoothie! A must try place!
I went there for brunch and the place didn't disappointed me. The music was quite good and the atmosphere was a relaxed one. The place was small and had cosy places. I had a nice coffee and also tried a few other things which I found to be quite good.
Cool and Young place for breakfast/brunch. I loved it.
When there, I tried a bit of everything. Muffins, scrambled eggs and Coffee are great. My chocolate muffin was very soft and literally full of dark chocolate.. Lovely. My eggs were very well mixed up with veggies, and soft as well. Not too heavy. Also, the coffee was smooth and creamy as I like it. No complaints about the rest.
In terms of prices, you should expect spending around 20 £ for brunch. Ambiance is original and colorful. Go for this place.
The best brunch in Southwest London. Period.
If you want a real local place where people queue up(sometimes) for a taste of delicious smooth coffee and and the best eggs in Balham, this is it!
Like lard and blood pudding? You need to head elsewhere as M1lk serves up a bit of a twist on the traditional brekky. Baked Kurdish eggs, served with crispy spinach or chorizo are just some of the delights, and the owner is a super friendly and makes everyone feel special.
The cafe itself is on a pointed corner surrounded by windows so is really light and airy (invaded by pigeon the time I was there last), and it’s small in there so don’t be surprised if there’s a bit of a wait. Service is quick though so you can be in and out in 15 mins if needed!
The best thing on the menu? If you ask me there’s still no better breakfast than the big hearty stack of corn fritters, served with halloumi and ‘smashed avo’. Wash it down with a pint of fresh smoothie (served in a milk bottle) and a fresh flat white, and you’ve got yourself the right fuel to party your Saturday away!
Back home in NZ, brunch was my favourite meal - for those who don't know, that's the meal between breakfast and lunch and usually had in lieu of one or both. There was nothing more satisfying than a Sunday spent laying in, getting up at 10 then making my way to a food joint to consume a hearty meal guilt free because it counted as 2.
On arriving in the UK however, I was saddened to discover that this trend had not yet developed on these shores. Places did breakfast and lunch but no one really offered that 'brunch' menu. What is a 'brunch' menu? This I find difficult to explain but once you see it, you just know. They are dishes which are more substantial than breakfast, but not as substantial as lunch. Wow I am useless. Told you, difficult.
Anyway thankfully over the past couple of years, the culture is changing as the London food scene continues to develop and for many (like me), brunch is now a religious thing and when asked for some of my favourite places, it's hard not to mention M1lk in Balham, one of the first true brunch places I knew in this city.
M1lk takes the quintessentials of brunch and nail them in delivering a menu that is as delicious as it is creative with dishes such such sweetcorn fritters with halloumi, goats cheese and honeycomb in sourdough and the unmissable baked eggs. Couple this with a perfect brew of coffee and you will quickly understand why the place is constantly busy.
The place is rather small though so to avoid disappointment, go early - they do open at 8 after all. Enjoy!

After many a fine brunch in the States this summer, I decided to up my game in London starting with highly-rated M1lk in Balham, located on work-in-progress Hildreth Street.
The "no reservations" queue was in full flow by the time I arrived at 11.20, but their superb Workshop coffee was available and the sun was shining - so far, so Williamsburg. The atmosphere was buzzing, and with good reason judging by the look of the food being brought out. Before too long we had a table for five indoors and were eyeing up the menu and the striking décor.Brunch isn't a meal for messing around sharing everything on the menu. It's about getting a massive portion of something delicious (potentially with hangover cure benefits if necessary) and keeping it all to yourself. This led to three of us ordering the same wonderfully named Convict muffin (did I mention M1lk is run by Australians?). It was a criminally good choice - English muffin, drycure bacon, m.moens sausage, burford brown egg, poacher hash, hangover sauce - £7.90. I don't know what hangover sauce is, but I want it every Sunday.
Non-convicts went for Billy The Kid (Red Clover Honeycomb, Goat's Cheese, Sourdough, Flowers - £6.90) and Young Betty (Poached Eggs on Woodfired Sourdough, Drycure Bacon, Burnt Butter Hollandaise, with Young Spinach & Chinese Chive - £7.80 + supplement), both of which looked smashing. Next time...
And brunch is as simple as that. No starters. No menu explanations. No small plates. Isn't it great? I should write about it more, it's a lot quicker. M1lk stands up to the best that New York & co. have to offer, and I expect I will be back again very soon, not least because there is a brand new beer & homebrew store round the corner called We Brought Beer.
One place that might soon compete with M1lk for my affections is Fields Café, their sister joint which is currently taking shape in the building next to the skate park on Clapham Common. Get a load of these potential dishes:
- Coal-grilled sausage bao, kewpie, pickled shallot & iceberg
- Peat-smoked mutton & beans, garden herb butter & sourdough
- Smashed peas, hay-smoked goat’s curd, garden herbs & sourdough
- Sticky rice pudding, apple, soured cream ice-cream & sake
- Banana bread, Nesquik mascarpone and salted panela
Exciting. Keep track of their progress on Twitter.
N.B. M1lk is open 8am-5pm Monday – Saturday, and 9am-5pm Sunday - so brunch isn't limited to the weekend! No reservations.
"Where on earth do you live" - Curious acquaintance
"Balham" - Me
"So you know know M1lk" - Curious acquaintance
"Yes" - Me
The above conversation is one I frequently take part in. This is because the popularity of M1lk far out weighs the history of Balham!
Situated on Bedford Hill you can normally spot the entrance by the tail of breakfast punters awaiting their hangover fill. If you are fortunate enough to gain entrance you are greeted by an array of home made cakes and bearded personal. The service is upbeat and welcoming with full descriptions of weekly specials. A genuinely friendly/refreshing approach.
Although the interior is compact it lets in light which really fits in with what they are trying to achieve overall, ergo 'it works'.
I would recommend ordering 'The convict' - a notable breakfast dish packed with sausage, bacon, hash brown and scrambled egg. The coffee is amazing, 60% Columbian & 40% Bolivian, order a tall black without sugar for an authentic taste. As a side try the kasekrainer sausage a Slovenian meat packed with chorizio!
My only one qualm with the whole dining experience is the metallic dishes with a high edged rim - imagine a kidney dish. It is difficult to gain any sort of traction with a soft edged knife, it can make for a high elbowed affair in a canopied corner.
Overall it is spot on, Mi1k has grabbed hold of the standard breakfast/lunch menu and added overwhelming flavours to all its dishes, in a unique setting. Job done!
Fish Sando 8/10 - mvp of the day with the right crunch and perfectly compatible combo of taste and ingredients. True to its name, this japanese style dish was minimalist to its core. Using the right ingredients and cooking time, the flavours had been perfect for me. Also it's big enough for 2.
The Convict 7/10 - splash of flavours were a bit overwhelming the taste felt a bit of an overdose/all over the place for me. Taste wise it's something you can get anywhere. Bread tasted more like biscuit. I was expecting more of a toastie kind of texture. It's yummy still!
Tahini Banana Bread 7.5/10 - tahini on top overpowered the banana bread so best to eat them separately if you want to have a better taste of the banana in the bread. Tahini is also a bit too sweet even for a sweet tooth like me. Nevertheless it's something I would want to indulge in every once in awhile.
Weekend special pancakes 3.5/10 - Not a fan of pancakes made with buckwheat. The special this weekend had been a miss for me with the experimental choice of toppings. Enjoyed the blackcurrant cheesecake on top though. An interesting dish overall!
Coffee: Latte was smooth and silky it's good coffee. Get an extra shot for a more bitter and stronger taste.
Recommend the fish sando, it's perfect.
We ordered a lot for 2 hence the £30-40pp price range. You could be spending £10-20pp with coffee.
Do expect a long queue around brunch time where the wait could take up to 2 hours.
It’s worth the queue! The food is awesome, kinda like the normal London brunch classics but with a twist. Defo get some of their hash browns, they are awesome. Coffees are great, all the mains are awesome, we got some of the veggies too. Total came to about £50 for two people with a tip. Very relaxed service and didn’t feel rushed, even with a queue outside! Will be coming back for sure
Had a lovely brunch here on a Friday morning at 10am, mention this as we had to wait about 5 minutes for a table, whereas when we left the wait seemed to be much longer. Food here was great! The coffee was super well roasted. Poached eggs were amazingly cooked and paired well with our dishes. Suggest the cornbread with honey which was rich and fresh. Paid £20 each for a dish each, a side and a coffee each.
Came across this hidden gem while visiting the area. This is the only place in England that I have come across in 5 years that serves cornbread! Which as an American, is one of my favorites; and the bread was spot on! Staff was very friendly and attentive.
Such a fantastic brunch spot in Balham. It’s so amazing to have this on our doorstep.
The food here is different but so delicious. #1 thing to recommend is their iced coffee in a bottle, it’s incredible.
We had a Friday brunch here, and I had the sweetcorn fritters which were so good. I will come back, either to eat or for the shop which sells breads, pastries and coffee. Love it here!!
Delicious food. Brilliant staff (just good people, helping other shop owners in the rain). Very busy at the weekend but perfect Monday mornings.
Milk Cafe is a trendy cafe in London that serves up delicious food and drinks. The cafe has a wide selection of coffees, teas, and smoothies.
The cafe is located in a popular area of London, so it can get quite busy, especially on weekends. If you want to avoid the queues, I recommend getting there early. However, even if you have to queue, it's worth it to try the food and drinks at Milk.
Attended on Remembrance Sunday, there was a good amount of people waiting to be seated, however the staff were attentive and ensured they let you know how long a wait might be depending if you wanted to sit indoors or outside. We had a short 15 min wait. Once inside the staff were superb in letting us know what the special dishes were available. We had a group of 4 and each of us thoroughly enjoyed our food and left clean plates to clear away.
Great little venue, incredibly popular and I can see why.
Just finished eating here and I have to say that this is one of my favorite breakfast spots so far. They also have great merch!
One of the most popular brunch spots in london! And after visiting, I understand why. Everything was so wonderful. The menu covered all the options that any brit would want for brunch! Hash browns, a breakfast muffin, banana bread & pancakes, salmon with eggs on toast! You cannot go wrong and they have done it perfectly. There are queues but my wait was only 20 mins
The busiest place in Balham, daily change of coffee beans. Everything decent, but the waiting times to get the food are killing every possible vibe.
Great place really affordable brunch in London. The pancakes are to die for. Other positions on the menu are equally delicious. The interior has very nice atmosphere and there are many parks around to go after. Coffe is very smooth and silky with delicate taste. Definitely one of the best brunch spots we ever been to. Staff was really friendly be aware the menu is slightly different on weekends
The long wait on the queue always worth!
Best brunch/breakfast in London and the coffee is to die for.
Staff is always brilliant, they are fast and this so far is one of the best costumer service I even received in London! I wish I could give a million ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Embark on a flavorful breakfast adventure with an array of delicious dishes! The Fish Sando (£12.10) is a visually stunning dish featuring perfectly fried shokupan bread, housemade tonkatsu, and daikon. However, the red snapper was a bit bland, and its flaky texture did not really work well in a sando.
The MUST-try Convict (£11.50) is a deceptively simple yet outstanding sandwich, reminiscent of a premium McGriddles. Juicy streaky bacon, fluffy scrambled eggs, succulent pork patty, and a crisp hash brown make this a dish worth traveling for!
The Poacher Hash (£4.50) is a heavenly stack of perfectly fried hash browns topped with shredded cheese. The Sweet Maria (£9.50) offers a refreshing combination of sweetcorn fritters, halloumi, avocado, and kasundi. Add poached eggs or dry bacon for an extra kick!
To wash it all down, try the Lauren smoothie (£4.90) - a blend of strawberry, mango Rubicon, and banana. Not extraordinary, but a great pairing with the food. Full review @jagglet on Instagram.
Super nice food, juices and coffee. Highly recommend the halva banana bread and the fish sando
Delicious - Def up there with top brunch spots we've visited. Only down side was having to queue outside in the cold as they don't take bookings. Can't fault the food.
I’ve been going to Milk in Balham for a number of years. It’s a fantastic place for breakfast or brunch. There are some stand out dishes such as the Convict, Sweet Maria (sweetcorn fritters and halloumi) and the hash browns with grated cheese. The coffee is also fantastic, the lattes are the creamiest around. There can be long queues during the weekends so prepare to wait and it will be worth it! The service is great and all the staff are friendly.
