Nice pub, friendly staff, good pint of Badgers & a good ham sandwich. Only drawback - it was a bit chilly inside.
I had a short trip to London and went into this pub. Great atmosphere and interior design. If you're looking for a good ale and food. You find it here. I ordered beef pie and it was bomb!
So nice just to stand outside in the sun with parliament right next to you, one of the best views whilst having a pint and lovely ale too. Friendly staff, average price for London.
We had a short 1/2 day visit to London and this was the perfect lunch spot. The location and history are amazing! We had fish and chips, which was fantastic. If you are in the area, this place is definitely work checking out.
Amazing atmosphere, with an a tremendous past. Loved the bustle, the fish and chips, and the beers :)
Extremly vibrant atmosphere. A bit crowded, and although its not a huge space, it confines a very special and welcoming mood, even for tourists. Right in front of Big Ben, by the Thames and with Westminster Abbey just across the street, you can hardly find a more central pub in London to catch a pint and apreciate the surroundings.
Welcoming staff, always smiling and so friendly. They have to best beer in town and the best fish and chips to try. Good place to hang out with friends
Visited a year back.Situated right across the road from the Houses of Parliament and diagonally opposite The Big Ben, this is a traditional pub loved by everyone.
This is one of the few remaining regional family brewers, brewing their own award winning Dorset ales at their pub. Also they serve some fresh, unpretentious seasonal dishes from their kitchen ! What more would you like from a pub !!
You get to Westminster Underground station and get out of the Big Ben exit and the pub is on your left.
The pub is frequented by tourists and locals alike. Also local businesses frequent the pub after they close office. You will also see some occasional politician having a beer and discussing the future of the country. Talking about politicians, the pub is one of the 3 pubs around The Houses of Parliament which has a division bell. For those who don’t know, its basically a bell which rings giving a warning sign, to any MP’s in the pub, that there is 2 minutes to vote.
If you are lucky you might find a MP dashing out of the pub and running to The Houses of Parliament when the bell rings.
Try all the ales that the pub has to offer, especially Firkin Fox, which has a biscuit malty herby flavour to it. But again its a personal choice. Some people might like it, some people might not. If you are like me, who does care how a beer tastes, then there are chances you will like it. Or else what the heck, its got 4.3 % alcohol in it, just chug it !!
Enjoy this Chicken and Ham pie with some vegetables and gravy. Or Fish and Chips or Bangers and Mash !
A word of caution : Dont leave your belongings unattended inside the pubs. Due to its proximity to the Houses of Parliament, there are chances that you might end up there on a day of protests or something. And protests dont really attract PETA models ! Theres a lot of scum there who enter the pub with some excuse or the other and before you know it, you are a couple of kilo lighter ! It did happen to one of my friend.
wuhuu, a middle age Pub, hosted prime ministers and bureacrats. In a rainy afternoon, walk along the Thames River, reach Big Ben and taste delicious fish and chips and Ale here. green chester sofa and old chairs. you are in a time machine
I visited 1 month ago, so I post late.
The place has a great atmosphere, you really feel in London in this pub.
The meal I ordered was lasagna with zucchini and squash, it was delicius, only a little spicy.
In this pub I discovered that in England the salt and peppers pots are inverted.
Sorry for my English in case of any mistakes.
This amazing pub benefits from it's superb location, just across the road is the Big Ben and it's walking distance from the Westminster Pier. The typical old world charm of an English pub this place has decent pub food and a good selection of tipples.
We went as a huge group on a busy evening but had booked tables in advance as you should do when you are going in a big group. In 2's and 3's it's ok to simply walk in.
Nice pub! A classic spot for every tourist, right by Big Ben. The dining area and the bar have very traditional decor, it's not a modern restaurant, it gas history in it! It has all the favorites including fish and chips, beers and pints, and some other dishes very delicious as well. I had a type of curry (mildly hot) and for starters a pita bread with 3 sauces (humus, yogurt and dried tomato I think). The desserts we were having we're cranberry pie and apple pie, they looked delicious on our neighbor table, but it took too long for us and we had to cancel as we were catching the plane. But a must!
What a view! Right under Big Ben, this pub is lively. This was the last stop on the pub crawl I had lined up for me and my father. We had our pint outside just as the sun shone over Westminster. Definitely worth a visit if you're sight seeing in that area.
Visited early July. It was a decent restaurant to go to if you are around the Big Ben area.
Decor is pretty cool and the restaurant was clean. Server was nice.
Specialty beer selection was good; we thoroughly enjoyed our selections. We ordered chicken fingers and fish & chips. The chicken fingers were really good; The breading had cracked black pepper and some other seasonings that made it way better than your standard fried chicken finger. The fish & chips were sadly not good.
Overall, we enjoyed our visit.
Best Fisn n' Chips we've ever had! We ate here with my wife's parents and we all loved the food so much. And it's so close to Big Ben, you're practically eating in its shadow! The best place to have some fish n chips!
Amazing place! Me and my boyfriend went on July/23. We ate fish and chips, it was delicious. The pub was very crowded, but they found a table for us very quickly! The best part is eating with a view, and what a view: Elizabeth Tower/Big Ben!
This pub is generally quite busy. They have seating both indoors and outdoors. The staff is awesome… they were kind enough to keep the bag I had forgotten in the pub. You’ll find all the standard drinks and also have a food menu.
Great Dinning, Food is Delicious 😋, Enjoyed every bit, thanks to this special staff Isabella. Will definitely recommend this Dinner for everyone visiting Westminster London . Lovely Pub, Great View just right at Bog Ben and Westminster Abbey
Came here for the fish and chips, didn’t expect anything amazing as is usually the case with pubs in superbly touristic spots.
Yet, we were very pleasantly surprised with the quality and taste, it was indeed very worth it. The only negative is the speed of service, as it did take quite a while for our two portions to be served. Still, 5 stars because the food was great.
A little confused on how to place food order. Hostess said to order at the bar. I took ro mean drinks at bar. After 10 mins we grabbed the attention of a server to inquire on getting food ordered. She said order food & drinks from at the bar. Ohhhh. Ok. Ten mins later our dish was delivered. That was my fault for not hearing what hostess said. Other than that, drinks & food were on point. I recommend this spot. On the happening strip within eyeball of Big Ben.
Loved the whole ambience and the vintage style decorations. The food was tasty and fresh and reasonably priced, considering the location. It is very close to Big Ben.
Easily the best fish and chips I’ve had! The fish is so smooth and buttery and delicious. I did add a decent amount of salt to the fish and chips but that could be personal preference.
This tavern is beautiful inside! I love the character. I didn’t get to see the upper floor but my friend has been before and said it’s a cozy seating area. My only issues were they don’t serve Coca Cola, only Diet Coke or Coke Zero… and the seating is a bit tight so you’ll be rubbing elbows with others. Typical British customer service.
Food: 10/10.
Ambiance/architecture: 9/10.
Service: 8/10.
You want delicious fish and chips? Come here.
The pub is buzzing!! Very crowded and servers are over whelmed but the wait is worth! Food is amazing!
The ambience is very 1875 and preserved well!! They even have a food elevator to the top!
The servers could use some help but they are very nice!
Overall a very good British experience to our Europe trip. Ps. They do not do free refills on soft drinks or sodas :)
Stopped off for a break from sightseeing. Typical English pub. Pub grub menu a little limited but food was enjoyable.
Lovely oub next to Big Ben. Difficult to find seating at times due to location. Some portions are small but fish & chips plate is pretty big. I also has a pint of Guiness with a heart on top :)
Classic British. Inside is what you want and just outside is Big Ben. Great location. Very comfortable inside and no one rushes you. Staff was kind. Nice beer and ciders. Tried "Ale to the King" which was timely (coronation was three days ago). Wife enjoyed the fish and chips and bangers and mash were very good. Add the gravy.
I had the pleasure to enjoy my first fish and chips at this restaurant/pub, great old school vibe, fast staff.
The Original Disney Dad
+5
This pub was on my London to-do list because Winston Churchill was a regular patron here. I’m happy to say that the atmosphere was great, the fish and chips was by far the best I had in London, and the cider on tap, Stowford, was the perfect mix of tart with a hint of sweetness. If you’re in the area, I highly recommend stopping by and raising a glass to our old friend Mr. Churchill.
