Really nice restaurant. We were struggling to find vegan food in the area, and this restaurant was perfect for us. They offered fantastic customer service, amending items for us where required.

One of the best meals we've had. Had the Meze platter and chicken wings. Absolutely amazing. Fairly priced and friendly atmosphere. Highly recommended.

We only popped in for a little afternoon snack, where I ordered the chicken wings from the hot mezze menu.  They were terrific.  Three whole wings (both drummette and flat) for 4 quid.  Marinated in a mild paprika based dry rub and grilled to perfection over charcoal.  Smokey and succulent.  The dish was garnished with a little shredded iceberg, cucumber, tomato and parsley which was drizzled with pomegranate molasses vinaigrette.  Impressive attention to detail for  a humble little dish.  Service was quick.

I often find myself torn between two versions of myself. One half is extremely proactive, pretty restless, and always wants to be going out, seeing everything, exploring new things. This part of my personality is all “I can sleep when I’m dead!” “I’m in my early 20s, and living in London – why am I not dancing on a table right now?” or “Why haven’t I been to that [enter fleeting culinary fad here] restaurant yet? I’m not living!”

Went here on a Sunday afternoon with my sister and found a relatively quiet Turkish/Syrian/Iraqi restaurant. The menu was mainly Turkish with a couple of Iraqi additions but I didn't notice anything with a note that said "from Syria" but that may well have been an oversight on my part. We ordered two starters to arrive at the table with the two main courses. I ordered the 'Zengi special' Haleb Kibbeh which is apparently a Baghdadi dish and my sister ordered the grilled Halumi with sala. For mains my sister ordered the chicken shish and I ordered Arbil Kofta Shish Kebab a lightly spiced lamb mincemeat kebab which was another Iraqi dish. The food came together as requested and was all piping hot and delicious. My starter was two lemon shaped balls of mincemeat and parsley in a fried shell of rice which was fantastic and also came with salad. The halumi was also very nice. The two mains were cooked to perfection. The chicken was marinated and very juicy and the lamb was also juicy and perfectly cooked. Both were served with rice an salad. The waitress brought chilli and garlic sauces which punched up the meal and also a basket of complementary Turkish bread which was a nice touch. The meal of two starters, two mains and two cokes came to £32 or £16 a head which considering the free bread I found very reasonable. We sat upstairs but on using the (spotlessly clean) toilets downstairs, the decor looked very romantic and authentically Turkish so hopefully will be able to sit downstairs on my next visit. Very pleased with my dining experience here and would definitely recommend them and I will definitely be back. 5/5.

After reading rave reviews by Time Out a couple of weeks ago, Dr G and I decided to visit this newly opened Turkish/Iraq restaurant on Commercial Street, E1. I normally go to Green Lanes, particularly “Antepliler” for my fix of Turkish food, but we were c

This has got to be a nice spot to grab some good tasting Middle Eastern food, as well as good tasting sheesha!

The food was cooked to perfection no complaints about the food, I really enjoyed my meal and so did my friends. The portions are more then enough, to keep you filled up nicely.

The atmosphere of the restaurant is great, interior is beautiful which make you feel like your really not in the busy hustle and bustle of London. In addition the customer service is great and staff are very friendly and helpful.

If you are a sheesha fan, then give these guys a try, they're sheesha tastes great.
Only downfall is you will be sitting on the main road outside the restaurant where cars are constantly driving past - if they had a back garden it would have been great.

So to sum it all up, the overall experience was great, and would definitely go back for more and recommend this place for a visit!

A hidden treasure in Aldgate, Zengi is a BYOB restaurant with gorgeous cubby-hole type dining booths and authentic middle-eastern cuisine.

I came here with friends and we ordered a sharing platter that came with delicious hummus, warm pitta and a variety of fragrant salads. We each also had a wrap (I happily went for the halloumi). I somehow managed to resist my go-to reaction to a tempting menu of ordering more than I could manage, and still left feeling happy and satisfied.

The staff can be a bit hit and miss but the food is reasonably priced and I don't think I've ever spent more than £15. I would say it's the perfect place for dinner before a big night out in Shoreditch.

Excellent food, Will come again for sure, this is with pita doubt a five for me. Lovely service from the owner, and just great food that is priced competitively for aldgate. Flavour over quantity is the key here so if you want portions to fill your stomach and not care about how much for you get then try this place. This is super underrated and I think you should definitely try this place out once! I've only been once so I can't comment on if it is consistent with the execution, but I'm hoping it is!

The food was freshly made and tasty! Quiet and cozy place where you can actually hear each other and not shout. The price was also affordable for the area. The staff that has served us wasn’t the friendliest person, but still not too bad.

Service is a bit curt but the food is absolutely incredible. Mid day there's no wait and if you want hookah you can sit outside.

Our team visited this place in May for a work do. The food was delicious. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the atmosphere and great service. The restaurant catered for our large group, and the food was reliably consistent. We can't wait to go here again. You have to go there, the flavours are just amazing! Thanks Zengi

I thought the food was simple, which made it authentic, but presented well. The Food was spiced well and was mild yet still hit all the right notes. Service was excellent: attentive and quick but I want rushed. I would go back again.

Went for a Saturday night dinner after a last minute trip to Shoreditch and stumbled across Zengi. We were welcomed by a very friendly waitress. We chose the meat grill (specifically the Zengi Mixed Grill) and were truly stuffed by the end. The meats were cooked to be very tender and delicious! Overall a great experience.

I liked it a lot, nice and cosy, even if it was on a really busy street. I really liked the lady that served us, we had a really good laugh, we didn't stay overly long because it closed quite early, good thing though we might have stayed out night. I enjoyed the shisha, we got apple 👌

Great little gem of a restaurant. Lovely intimate atmosphere, great service, and genuinely fantastic food. They don't make the mistake some restaurants do by trying to cook too much. Instead they concentrate on really high quality food for a great price. Highly recommended.

While visiting London, I stumbled upon Zengi, which a mixture of Turkish and Lebanese cuisine. I am SO happy that I did. Not only was the staff warm and welcoming, the food and ambiance were too! We ordered the Haloumi salad, hummus, lentil soup and Chicken Shish Taouk. It went really well with some Lebanese red wine! I don't even think we had any leftovers. It was also the first time I tried an electronic Sheesha (or hookah) which I didn't think I would like, but we did! Hats off to Ali and his team for a great experience. We will definitely be back!! xox

Went there with my better half. We had the Mega mezze platter. This was a result as we got to try around 15 different dishes. A great culinary journey. Thoroughly enjoyed it. We managed to make space for more food after some time flew by while enjoying the vibrant atmosphere. Staff were friendly adding to the great experiance. Thanks for a great evening Zengi.

I had some sushi here and it was delicious. The meat was smooth and properly seasoned while the girl who was serving us kept her modesty through the whole evening and was very polite.

Absolutely amazing!! Having lived in the Middle East for 7years, Zengi did not disappoint. The mixed grill was succulent and delicious, as was the falafel. Can't wait to go back.

Great restaurant! Its personal, intimate and friendly. Lets be honest going to big chain restaurnt is boring, and this is where Zengi comes into it own. The owner Ali likes to get to know his customers and when i'm there i feel well taken care of. The food is very tasty indeed. Mezes and grills are fresh and yummy. 4 people eating- 60 quid, thats a win win situation in my eyes. Had a shisha outside and u know what it was very good- i smoke it very often and they use premium tobacco. Thanks for being a small independant restaurant :)

The food at zengi is just incredible! You can taste the quality of the meat and the freshness of the ingredients. Staff are attentive and it's all great value for money. A party of twelve ate and we didnt have to wait ages to be served, nor did we feel we were inconveniencing anyone. This place is a gem and I'll be sure to go back again very soon for the lamb kofta and the yalla yalla chicken starter. Thanks Zengi for a great evening

As far as the Middle East goes, this place was definitely an amazing culinary experience! Their new starter, Yalla Yalla, was something extraordinary as the meat cubes were very flavoursome. This was complemented by nacho style chips. Next time I'm opting for the mega mezze platter as the cold and hot mezze menu had more variety than the mains. Harrissa buffalo wings for mains - wings were grilled and had run spicy, flavoursome juices. This dish was served with fragrant Arabic rice and a side salad. Very satiating! The Moroccan mint tea for afters was very delicate; fresh mint was used and we enjoyed a total of 8 small cups for £4.50 (I think?). Only issue - sugar cubes would've been a nicer touch as opposed to sugar sachets, though this is only a small, insignificant matter. Decor was very intimate with middle eastern influences permeating throughout - cushions, lamps, wall art and even the access door to the toilets. Service could be improved just slightly as one of the waitresses lacked service with a smile. Maybe it was an off day, because I will return nonetheless!
