Excellent as always staff and food were wonderful, really enjoyed the mixed starter best anywherex
Absolutely delicious food and good service. It was lovely being near the water as well. My boyfriend and I had the set menu B. Highly recommend the ribs and the special fried rice but it was all really tasty.
So happy my new home is within walking distance from this little gem, love, love, love their food. Their Dim Sum selection is good, The Lo Mai Gai is insane it's so good, contains Char Sui, Chinese Sausage, Chicken, Salted egg yolk & Dried Shrimp it's Amazing, I've eaten at this place 4 times this week each time the food has been wonderful. Their steamed Dover sole with ginger and spring onion was divine. I'm looking forward to getting to know this place and working my way through their menu.
A fantastic place, the food is the best in London. The setting amazing.
My second son was 15years yesterday. Took him and the rest of my family there for a family dinner. We were well treated and food was excellent. The lady who waited on us, Jo Jo, was great. I will recommend this restaurant any day.
Had a wonderful meal here last night with friends. The food, drink and service were all excellent, would definitely go again when in London!
Just love it here, you can't beat it,
wonderful atmosphere, lovely food & fantastic service nothing to much trouble, easy to get to & great views, this place has a real buzz ...
Had a lovely meal, with great tasting food!
Very friendly service! Would definitely return.
The food was great service was as well there was plenty to choose from and every thing was hot plenty of choices
Great place to eat. Even if its getting more expensive over the years, still a great place to eat out!
I m eating in a lot of restaurants, especially Asian! It s rare to find quick and professional service here in London!!
I arrived and a nice lady brought me to the table.
Nice crab crackers were waiting on the table. Soy sauce, salt and pepper were brought as well. The waiters are really active and friendly, attention given to every guest & were following up If I am ok.. or if i need something else.
I saw lot of happy faces and guests kept ordering ... and ordering!
definitely good food for this price !
Thank you !
Fresh hot piping food set in the backdrop of the Canary Wharf. Very attentive staff.
Superb food, great surroundings, staff were absolutely brilliant, went for my grandsons 5th birthday and they really made a big fuss of him.
The Lotus Floating Restaurant is one of the popular Chinese restaurant in London, east side near Canary Wharf. Nearest station is Crossharbour which is less than 5 minutes walk. It's surrounded by new luxurious and classy looking flats. We arrived early at 12pm for dimsum. We ordered most of the basics that we would usually order and it came up to about £17-£20 per pax.
I don’t go out in Canary Wharf very often, but when I do … it’s mostly boring. Not this time. My friends John and Lucy invited me to dim sum brunch at the Floating Lotus at Oakland Quay. Even though it is an outstanding looking boat in the middle of all the concrete and glass towers, I never noticed this restaurant before. Good thing I have friends who know stuff.
Good yum cha place just off canary wharf with each patron given a sheet to choose what they want. Servings are quite small though but good quality and doesn't taste like there is a lot of MSG. Recommend to book!
Recently, a loved one celebrated their birthday and it was one of the yummiest affairs to date. Happy Birthday dearest Lola (Grandmother in the Tagalog – a dialect in the Philippines). In celebration of my sister’s mother-in-law birthday, we decided to visit one of the family’s favourite places – The Lotus Floating Restaurant in East London. If you read my other blog Mini Adventures you will know that this place is a regular for myself and my family.
Well, given a choice, I would prefer Chinatown/Soho I guess, but Lotus is really quite impressive - especially their dimsums. And the fact that it's a 10 min walk from where I live makes it super convenient. Makes me wonder why I don't head there more frequently, though...this is the only Chinese restaurant I've been to in London which serves (much to my wife's delight) stir fried babycorn! That's the only reason where she might say OK to a meal out at lotus - despises Chinese restaurants otherwise for the sheer lack of vegetarian options, and relatively bland veg dishes. Oh well..
Head there for a leisurely Sunday brunch! You will not be disappointed.
I would rate the dimsums better than Royal China, in the neighbourhood. And oh - definitely cheaper overall. You end up spending 20-22 quid a head when out in a group over Royal China vs 15-18 pounds here.
Definitely don't miss out on this place, superb Chinese restaurant floating in the inner Millwall Dock. We always had sensational service and simply delicious yum cha, which we actually thought was surprising, but it certainly made us visit quite a few times. Prices also good and the novelty of being on a boat also interesting, not sure what the chefs thought in the basement...
This is my favourite restaurant. Whenever I'm in London I try and arrange my plans so I can either have lunch or dinner here. The food is fantastic. The gigantica prawns are awesome. The staff are fantastic and they remember a regular face. I really can't recommend this place enough.
I absolutely love the style of this restaurant, coming from the station you can clearly tell by the design that this is a Chinese restaurant and the fact that it is floating on the water makes this place stand our for me. I also get the image of a lotus flower floating gently on the water which links in nice with the image and name of the restaurant. A 5 star effort for the person in charge of the branding.
I actually went with a group made up of 7 Chinese people and my English self. There was a little anxiety with this as I would obviously not have the knowledge of the style of cuisine or even how to use chopsticks in the right way. Hopping over this obstacle I got stuck in to whatever was recommended by my colleagues as they had the knowledge of the food. Personally, I am not a huge fan of Chinese food but overall the selection was very nice and gave my tongue a different taste to what it normally has.
I would recommend trying the chicken feet here. Yes it may sound disgusting and not appealing but I was surprised at the texture and the flavour itself. You can add it to 'Weird Things I've Tried' list that sometimes comes up as a topic at the dinner table.
Anyway, overall a great little Chinese that I'm sure most people would love, it just wasn't my kind of food but I'm glad I tried it all. The staff are very polite and don't laugh when you request a knife and fork (something I was very grateful of).
Went here for me and my boyfriends anniversary, it was lovely! The food was delicious, the portions were generous and we both left feeling absolutely stuffed! The restaraunt is on a gorgeous Chinese style boat with the stunning backdrop of canary wharf to view. Didn't break the bank either, every thing was reasonably priced. I had a great time
- The fact that the restaurant is set on a boat on the water just adds to the charm of the restaurant.
- It has the beautiful backdrop of London's financial district.
- The food is great, there is a lot of choice, even for fussy vegetarians like myself. Tofu is one of my personal favourites and the Lotus provide a range of tofu dishes, all of which carry great taste and quality.
- The restaurant has a family-restaurant type feel.
- Nice desserts.
I would definitely visit the Lotus again!

A 2 min walk from Crossharbour this restaurant has nice dim sum for great value prices. In Cantonese, Dim Sum means “the heart’s delight” or “touch the heart.” What I like about Lotus is that it provides good tasting dim sum at reasonable prices, a portion of dim sum cost from £3 onwards, their custard tarts are made fresh on premises, and every bite taste exceedingly good. Prawn cheung fun is one of my favourites I must learn how to make that sauce. The usual bill for around 4 people is usually £10 per person.
Often, it's the cheap 'n' cheerful eats that serve up the best foods - the hawkers stalls of Singapore, the beach huts of Goa, pizzas by the slice in New York City. And it's no different here, in a little corner of the Docklands, no more than 5 minutes from swanky Canary Wharf by the little DLR station of Cross Harbour.
I had no idea this world existed, the Canary Wharf area seeming one homogenised land of shiny skyscrapers and black-clad businessmen and women striding about, noses stuck in the FT. But this little piece of harbourside, so near and yet so totally different is a charming neighbourhood of calm and relaxation. And here lies the Lotus Floating Chinese restaurant, floating as the name suggests, in the Millwall dock.
We know exactly what we want and we tuck into a wide spread. The char siu pau (BBQ Pork Buns) are utterly fantastic, it has been so long since I had a quality dose of these - Dragon Castle in Elephant & Castle, while fantastic in all other respects, cannot get the bun right. The dumplings come in paper thin wrappings with succulent juicy fillings and the stir-fried vegetables are just the right side of garlicky.
The hot Chinese tea is filled up constantly and even as our plates empty, we stay drinking tea and chatting, they seem in no mood to turf us out into the cold, and so for a while, this warm cosy buzzing place keeps us content.
It's a place you bring your whole family and catch up over good food, plenty of hot tea and watch the sun dance on the water outside. Or given current climes, where you watch rain lash against the windows and you nestle into your seat even more.
All for the low low price of £10 a head, and we certainly packed away a fair amount.
I am genuinely surprised that there are just 2 Chinese restaurants worth talking about (not counting the takeaways) in Canary Wharf even though there is a considerable expat Chinese population in Isle of Dogs.
Lotus surely has a niche; it is possibly the only floating restaurant in East London and the views of Millwall docks and Canary Wharf from here are amazing. However the place seems to have been fallen into disrepair, the paints are peeling and the place looks a bit antiquated.
We went there for Chinese New Year lunch with a largish group as a compromise, as Royal China was completely booked. Thankfully, the food didn't disappoint, it was filling, tasty and inexpensive. We practically ordered half the menu and I should say that the Dimsums, prawn dishes and spring rolls were worth talking about.
It is closer to Crossharbour but I would suggest getting off at South Quay station if you are not familiar with the locality as you can easily spot the place from platform itself.
I visited the shop, no the restaurant so my feedback is for the shop only. I could find all the foods I wanted, and much more. Good prices and friendly staff.
Stop visiting Lotus Floating restaurant after few years due to their service and foods are not up to my expectations, after a few friendly senior staffs have left. Recently I went back to give them a try, they have improved on their dim sum, but the tea quality is poor, taste is weird from tea pot, advise to improve it. Their service is average can't expect too much in many Chinese restaurants in London, in this restaurant due to many customers on the weekend, sometime expecting some queue without reservation. You can enjoy river sea view to see some high building.
Two minutes walking distance from Crossharbour DLR station. Price is reasonable. Ckeaninss in the toilet is acceptable. Parking, can consider to park near Asda just less than 5 min.
Go with a friend on Sunday afternoon, doesn’t need to wait long to be seated. Great dim sum selection with very reasonable price. The service is quick too, impressive. So glad I found a great place for Dim Sum, would definitely come back again!!
This was my 4th visit to Lotus as I live locally, but it's the first time I came exclusively for Dim-sum with my son, we ordered 10 dishes in total, all were very nice except spare ribs, it wasn't what I would normally expect, small chunks of bones with hardly any meat on them, but that's the only issue, waitress who brought the dishes was very nice and professional. Will definitely come back for more.
Perfecto! Dimsum here is really good and akin to the levels in Hong Kong / Singapore. Very very reasonably priced too. Do not go here for dinner as the non-dimsum standards are much lower. Service here is good and friendly too.
Ordered from lotus a whole duck using ubereats... but didn’t realise I needed to chop the duck myself… =.=“ if i possess that skill or am feeling adventurous, i’d probably not be ordering takeaways. However, if you manage to get as far as to actually eating the duck, it’s actually very good! (Started from 1 star when I received the duck, upgraded to 3 after eating the duck, would have been 5 if it was chopped!)
Edit: 7-Feb-22; updated from 3 to 5 stars. Restaurant now state clearly and provided option to have it chopped, with or without bones and even provided the bones for making soup if needed. Roast duck, roast pork and pork knuckles are all good!
Decent selection of dim sum. Fairly good value.
The Peking duck (3 ways) is also good at dinner time but you have to pre order.
The quality of the service has been improved over years, the restaurant has been moved upstairs and the ground floor has been nicely organized into a supermarket with authentic South Asian food and snacks - this creates healthy competition with the other supermarket on the isle of docks.
Excellent dim sum. Everything we ordered was delicious. We were lucky to get there early as after us there was a line of people waiting, which is a good sign in terms of popularity and quality. We were three people and split the bill to about £30 each which is a great value for what we ate.
It's not the old Lotus, which was Cantonese cuisine, anymore.
Tried the Saute Spicy Chicken & Dry Fried String Beans, both are western China cuisine. They both are actually pretty good.
Ask waiters for recommendation.
