Great place. The food is great and the waiters are really good. Biggest plus is the dog friendly atmosphere they provide. Always enjoyed myself every time I have gone there. Keep up the great work
Fabulous Monday night meal with two friends. Intimate venue with great staff and fabulous food.
Great Sunday lunch
Unadulterated venue very traditional feel which is great
Music a tad too loud but bearable
Food excellent - as were staff
Will definitely be going back
Foodies Of Flagler: Our group visited The Brown Dog. The service was very good and the food was excellent. We had 1 mistake on the order which was quickly and happily fixed.
The burger of the Month is always unique and an adventure.
Locally brewed IPA beers are available.
The combination of a unique menu and local craft beers make The Brown Dog a WINNER!

Fantastic roast ! Such good service. And this is a proper pub. Super cosy, great locals,
Fantastic Sunday lunch yesterday. We had a lovely welcome and the atmosphere was very chilled. There was a slight hiccup with our order getting 'lost' (!) but it was handled very well by the manager and was soon forgotten when the most marvellous roast beef reached our table! I don't think I've such good beef for many many years. We will definitely be going back for more:-)
Great food again tonight! And thanks for giving me a doggy bag for the bones - my little dog is very happy.
Had the Sunday Roast Beef.. EXCELLENT...
Really enjoyed our roast! Our lab was spoilt with a pigs ear too! Great find too :)
Great food and so welcoming with two labs in tow. Shall be back
Apparently, you are either a dog person or a cat person. I’m absolutely definitely a cat person, without a shadow of doubt. Don’t get me wrong, it’s not that I don’t like dogs, honestly, I do, especially those handsome, bouncy Hungarian Vizsla types or the blue eyed teddybearish Siberian Huskies or perhaps sleek Russian Salukis, and of course their devotion and loyalty is something to be treasured, their protective bark a great security boon too. Man’s best friend and all that, I know, I know. But somehow, don’t they all have those anal cysts that need to be drained and that wet doggy smell and bad breath? They force their owners to carry around scoopers and full-to-the-hilt poo bags, not exactly my accessory of choice, and they leave big wet paw prints on the floor, not to mention the damage their unretractable claws do to your stockings or the muck when they jump up on your pristine white jeans. And then, what on earth do you do with them when you want to scoot off to somewhere exotic? Man, it’s like having a furry and slightly smelly forever toddler! Na, give me the independence of cats, their mystery, their feline elegance, that slightly cruel streak, those slanted eyes and the velvety purr. I hear you shout that moggies shred your upholstery, that their wee is disgustingly pungent, that they are killers of songbirds and in any case, associated with witches and devils. You are right, of course, and that even before you have met my Romy, the ever kittenish looking old lady who believes she is the Queen of Sheba and who occasionally rewards her slaves, us, with the present of some decapitated small mammal and who has a strange proclivity for big strong men in builders’ boots and flirts outrageously with them, only to have them howling in pain after they have taken up her invitation to tickle her tummy and received a vicious recreational clawing by way of thanks.. When the slaves dare to abscond and leave her to be fed by the kindly vet nurse from over the road, she, Romy (not the vet nurse, I hasten to add), shows her displeasure by defecating in our bathtub, just in time for our return home. That’ll teach us! Yes, like all proper women (oh, I do hope the lovely husband reads this….), she has more primadonna moments than are reasonably acceptable but just as we are about to curse her to the high heavens, she employs typical pussycat cuteness manoeuvres which have us trilling with love. So there you have it, now you know which camp I’m in.
I first visited The Brown Dog some 6-7 years ago when it first opened. It was a visit for Sunday lunch and to be honest it has been a visit for Sunday lunch ever since. Coming to think about it I don’t think I have ever visited The Brown Dog for anything but Sunday lunch and since I hadn’t visited for a while, made it the perfect choice when my mate Richard contacted me about meeting up. Location was also ideal as it was midway for both of us. Although unbeknown to me at the time a cycling race made it nigh on impossible for us to get there. Thankfully it was a sunny summer’s Sunday afternoon and, following a brief taxi ride with a cabbie that moaned and berated the cyclists, walking there was actually quite pleasant.
We got there around 2pm to find out that, surprisingly, the beer garden had tables available so we scrapped our booking inside and sat at a picnic table in the beer garden. The weather was glorious and nothing else would be justified, thankfully although Sunday, there were no screaming kids! Don’t get me wrong I like the little rascals but they do get on my nerves when they don’t behave!
The menu was promising, as ever, and the roast pork with all the trimmings caught my eye, I was sold. Surprisingly, for a Sunday lunch, the rest of the group fancied starters so Duck and peppercorn terrine it is then but first a pint of Guinness please.
The terrine arrived and it was divine, unfortunately K was sitting next to me and there was no way of stopping her from trying, a few times as one is never quite enough for quality control purposes! K had the serrano ham with melon and manchego which was also delicious, although I was only allowed one small mouthful – did someone mention equality?
Soon after the second pint the mains arrived and I was salivating at the sight of this piece of crackling. I tend to feel short-changed when I order pork in pubs as the crackling is never enough but not today! I wish I had asked for a Yorkshire pudding, always ask for a Yorkshire pudding.
The guinea fowl was also very succulent and tasty as was the amazing gravy with peas and pancetta that was coming with it.
The feedback received from the other two that had the beef was also very good, it did look great and they were lucky enough to get Yorkshire puds as well! (sobs…)
By now we must have been sitting in the beer garden for a few of hours and after all this food there is no space for pudding but the drinks orders continue to go in and as the weather gets hotter and hotter we move from Guinness to alcoholic ginger beer and cider! This is what summer afternoons should be about…shame that it is usually a rare occurrence in the UK. After five hours or so we decide that it’s probably time to go home…
I will always return to the Brown Dog, especially for Sunday lunch, as I have yet to be let down. Their food is always great and the staff always friendly. The next visit will have to be for dinner as I need to experience what kind of atmosphere they offer to have a rounded view. Should maybe try to pop in for a drink one time too as at the moment, although it has a bar area, I have a feeling it is not really a drinking only pub.
Totally dog-friendly pub with a good selection of quality food. Attentive service and good value. Parking available in local streets. Enjoyable meal.
Lighter Wallet but great food. The Brown Dog will polarise opinions I feel. It is a lovely quaint backstreet pub and you have dogs and children wandering around your tables. Not to everyones taste. The staff are friendly enough could be a little more attentive. The food was truly first class - some of the best roast beef I had in ages but the price does demand it. Spent £60 on a 2 main meals with one beer and 2 small wines and a coke!
Would I be back - definitely yes - when - that is harder to answer.
Great local foodie pub. Cosy, friendly and excellent food.
Went here before the Rugby at Twickenham with some work colleagues. Good that it was empty and we could enjoy a thoroughly enjoyable meal with 2 or 3 pints.
Food was delicious. Started with the ham hock terrine which was warm and succulent though could have done with an extra slice of toast. The sausage and mash was excellent and just what I needed before sinking 6 pints at the rugby. It's just a shame England lost.
I held my 40th Birthday Party at The Brown Dog last weekend and it was absolutely amazing! David and the team went out of their way for the evening to be SUPER special. The pub is beautiful and was such a perfect setting - everyone had the best time. It has been so great to work with David around the occasion. I would recommend a private party at the venue to anyone!
This is our local pub and we are so lucky to have it!!!! Great food and excellent service provided by a manager David and his team. Thank you.
Went to a supper club dinner at the pub and it was delicious. Excellently cooked food and a lovely wine paring. The communal dining was a lot of fun. Recommend!

It's open again!
After a second lockdown the BD finally reopened. Serving pizza 5-7 and normal meal. (you can still do take away)
It's so nice to see life back in the old dog. Food was superb.
.....................................................................
This has been my local for many years. I have taken visitors for meals, met up with friends. The food has always been excellent, the staff are friendly and welcoming. It has an out door garden. Dogs and kids welcomed. The Brown dog has recently changed hands, but they will still have their famous hog roast at Barnes fair.
LOVLEY PLACE - I haven't been to the brown dog in a long time but I went just recently and it was superb. Im a pub person and this is an amazing pub. The food is also very good. I will be back for all the matches !
A very great and often unknown pub within Barnes.
Very cosy with some great beers.
Definitely worth a visit.....if you can find it 😉
Excellent atmosphere, and also dog friendly. Great service. food was good, except the steak (hence the star off). I've been disappointed twice with that, tastes like it's been broiled. But. We do keep going back, we like it lots.
Gorgeous Saturday lunch here. Such a great family gastro pub experience. The food was delicious as was the wine. The kids menu was also great and my son wolfed down his spag bowl. Quite an expensive lunch, but I’m sure we’ll be back for a special occasion on when we’re feeling generous. I give it 4stars as service could have been a little bit tighter, we were left waiting wanting more wine a couple of times.
Small menu but really good food. The roast was delicious and was a generous portion. The starters were lovely too. The rhubarb crumble was amazing.
It has a lovely little patio at the back.
My family and I visited The Brown Dog for the first time a couple of weeks back and were greeted with friendly smiles from the staff who gave warm welcome and a lovely family sized table. The food was amazing! I had the Arancini for appetisers followed by the chicken and ham pie. Best pie I've had in a very long time! We were all stuffed and very well fed by the chef! Thank you and we will definitely return again!
A fantastic pub with great stuff. A lovely mix of young and old. And plenty of space for dogs. The food is sublime. The menu constantly changes and makes use of seasonal ingredients. They have a small but tasty selection of beers including their very own Ale.
Such a great pub, top night out.
Lovely roast, gets very busy but well worth it
I think recently changed hands but enjoyed the food. Not many people there so atmosphere a bit lacking.
For many years, this has been a favourite local pub and it keeps on delivering on quality food and cozy vibes.
Tucked away on Cross Street – The Brown Dog is a real gem. You are welcomed by the smiling team ready to serve traditional and craft beers, plus a selection of good wine either in the cosy, snug bar in winter or in the garden in summer. Whether you have come to the pub for a drink, a snack of food – you are always welcome. The food is superb quality, especially for a pub / bistro with a wide-range of meat, fish and veggie dishes for starters and mains. And don’t forget the pizzas – they are freshly made in front of your eyes and even the garlic pizza for starters are very moorish! FYI – at weekends and holidays you will probably need to book a table. A little piece of heaven in West London.
Just had lunch at this pub and was so impressed with the service, the quality of the food, and the ambiance. Really very impressed!!! Couldn't recommend more highly.
Have been here for drinks a few times and once for pizza, but came last night on a child free evening for a proper dinner - and can't recommend enough. Cosy pub, friendly service, had amazing arancini with wild garlic and the best pie I've had in a long time. Sadly no room for pudding... Lots of well behaved dogs at other tables so definitely an option if you need a pup-friendly dinner! Thanks for a lovely evening guys
