The staff were all incredibly welcoming, they work extremely hard, and efficiently always with a smile.
The food was gorgeous ‘pub grub’ and very reasonably priced for the location.
I really recommend visiting this lovely old pub.
Visited here a few times for a drink, lovely old pub, good beer nice cider food looked nice but we didn't eat there; friendly staff and lots of seating. Well worth a visit.
There is everything in this pub, friendly staff, great food, atmosphere, great location and most important, is a typical english pub!

Typical look of a London Pub but still has its own character. The interior is a classic Art Deco with so much attention to detail in the theme. From furniture to flooring and light fittings and wall art- it really feels like stepping back in time- at the same time facilitating a warm welcoming comfort!
Service was friendly and efficient. The food was simple, hearty, tasty and fresh with generous portions!
The burger patty was thick, tender and juicy with very fresh meat- cooked medium. The chips were crunchy on the outside & slightly soft on the inside just perfect and highly addictive!!
The sausage and mash was also one of the best kind of a home cooked meal- sausages were tender with a perfect bite on a bed of velvety mashed potatoes, balanced with the braised red cabbage and the elements were united with the warmth and full body flavor of the dark gravy sauce.

The food as very yummy and the service was good, even though the guy who waited at air table was clearly in training. We like the place itself and it's at a great location. It wasn't too pricey either.
26hrs of travelling from Sydney and this was our first lunch stop just off Trafalgar Sq. Did not disappoint! Both Jackson and Diana made us feel so welcome and were great. Food was traditional English and outstanding.
A must in London. My husband and I arrived on our first day in the city and wanted to grab a late lunch in a “London style” pub. Our waiter “Magic Marius” was so friendly and inviting along with all the other staff. He noticed me taking pictures of their beautiful bar and was kind enough to let my husband and I go behind the bar and offered to take pictures of us! He might even show you some magic tricks if you are lucky! Overall, great pub food and atmosphere! I highly recommend to anyone visiting in the area!

Very attentive staff. Good food. I had the roast beef which was very good. My daughter had the roast chicken which was also very good. My girls were entertained by a staff who did bits of magic tricks for them. Definitely recommended for their Sunday roast.
Marius was absolutely amazing. He was serving at the bar, recommended a great beer, then a great cocktail. The key was the magic. He performed some mind blowing card tricks at the bar with us, it was extremely entertaining and very funny. A great mix of magic and comedy. Highly recommend
Marius was a wonderful server! Our 7-year-old son, Leigh, is now determined to be a magician thanks to Marius’ magical skills at the dinner table. He gave Leigh a magic trick playing card that has become his favorite souvenir from our trip to London from Chicago.

Mario, our waiter-magician, performed unbelievable tricks in front of our eyes that we are still trying to figure out. How the hell he does them?? It must be real magic!
The staff are so friendly and accommodating. Every other establishment we've been to has had horrible customer service. But Jackson and the bartender at this place have been wonderful! The food was amazing as well! If we visit London again we'll come back for sure.
Had a great time on a rainy Sunday at The Old Shades. Great food (VERY generous fish and chips), drinks and the unexpected highlight of having an amazing magician Marius blow our minds with some fun card tricks! Definitely recommend.
Wanted a place to do a Sunday roast, and The Old Shades lived up to the hype. Great service and the food portions are extremely generous, especially given the fair pricing. Absolutely loved the drinks (try the Marmalade mule) but the icing on the cake was Magic Marius’s tableside card show which was so fun and amazing to watch!
Mario was an excellent host and the magic tricks were def the highlights! He made us laugh and felt so comfortable in this traditional pub! Cosy environment.
We were in London just for one day and definitely wanted to eat at a local pub. We were walking around until we got hungry and this place looked great and had enough seating for 8 people. The atmosphere, decor, service, drinks and food were great.

Good food, and the beer was also very nice. On the top of it, Mario, one of the waiters, did some magic tricks and honestly, he was so professional. I can really recommend this pub.

Great pub in heart of London. Got the Sunday roast and it was good. Mario was a fantastic server. Did some great magic tricks and spending time with us. If we ever come back, it would be for him! Atmosphere is traditional pub as well. It’s a smaller pub so has a more infinite atmosphere as well.
One of the servers saw my son looking tired and said you can’t sleep yet. I got something for you. Then he did like 5 awesome magic tricks. Was a great meal and a great time.
