The best Japanese experience in all of London; and my favorite restaurant. Just 8 seats, only the absolute freshest and top quality fish selected and flown in from all over the world, prepared with absolute precision. We were back last night and continue to be wowed and impressed with creative new dishes from Chef. Sea Urchin (Uni) from Iceland had just come into season and scallops from Hokkaido served tempura topped with fresh truffle shavings were among the standouts from the 13+ little works of art that comprised the omakase. Excellent value for money considering the ingredients served (A5 Wagyu, Oscetra Gold Caviar, etc). Extensive and well curated Sake and wine list. Book well in advance at set date-windows released on their website.
I took my partner for dinner at Takahashi last night and it was quite honestly one of the most incredible meals of ours lives. With only four of us in the restaurant, 12 ever max apparently, we were really guaranteed the chef's full attention to detail. We watched a true artist at work.
We had the premium omakase, which is only available on select dates - not cheap, but then again cheap sushi never equals good sushi in my experience, and this is quite incredible sushi. 18 small delicacies were served, each one perfectly balanced. Sounds a lot, but each portion was perfectly sized so you could easily enjoy them all without feeling too stuffed to move.
I doubt that there are many Japanese restaurants in London that produce food to this level. Definitely not your average sushi restaurant - come here if you want a truly unique experience which you rarely find outside of Japan.
The omakase was exceptional with uniquely flavourful sushi, a delightful experience! The warm hospitality of the owners and their welcoming presence added a personal touch. Highly recommend, even if it’s slightly further out from central London!
One of the best meals I have ever had in my life. Took my wife here for her birthday and we had the counter table. Incredible food, service and experience. Lots of meals at top end restaurants fail to linger in the mind but this one was unforgettable.
Highest quality and most authentic Japanese restaurant in south London by a long shot!
*updated 10/2023 - still a fantastic place and well worth the $$. the new autumn omakase menu is incredible. The wagyu, miso aubergine, tuna nigiri and maki, and molten cake dessert were highlights.
Absolutely fantastic omakase experience, everything is so well thought out and delicious. A lovely intimate dining experience and Takahashi san creates each dish with such care. Will definitely be coming back, thank you for a wonderful evening!!!!!!
we came for the premium omakase, and it was as amazing as it sounds.
the food was so exquisite, flavours were so balanced and clean. nothing was pretentious or overly frilly fancy, every ingredient spoke for itself and shined with each other. really beautiful meal, amazing melt in the mouth sushi, the wagyu was beautifully juicy, and the dessert was a great end to the meal. even the mushrooms were full of flavour.
the restaurant represented its food — simple, unassuming, but quality above all else. we could choose our sake cups, and sushi was served with a brush for soy sauce and a wet towel for your fingers (sushi counter style). guidance for every course was given to maximize enjoyment, and the service was amazingly attentive, but not intrusive at all.
10/10, if you *love* japanese food, this is a must visit.
This place bets their all on the food and it definitely pays off. The food is simply of a tier that is rare to find in London; compared to other high-end Japanese places, the quality and complexity of Takahashi’s dishes really shows.
We ordered the omakase and all the dishes were very thoughtful and elegantly showcased the Japanese style. Sushi in particular was as good as you get in Japan. Also very competitive in terms of value.
Decor and service is simple and a complement to the cuisine - no need for over-the-top extras here.
Michelin star inbound, watch this space. Immaculate Japanese food in a very intimate setting with c8 covers. Best Japanese food I’ve eaten in London.
Amazing authentic small and almost hidden Japanese restaurant!
We had dinner there last weekend and were welcomed by the owner-chef's wife who made us feel as we were guests at their own home. They were incredibly helpful with explaining about the ingredients of each dish on the menu so that we'd choose and enjoy all to the fullest. There were only 3 more tables apart from ours so with the cosy atmosphere and the profesional service provided it really felt like we were having a private and very special dinner. Last but not least the combination of their fabulous seafood and vegetable tempura and sake was outstanding. Very impressed. I recommend.
