I really loved their veggie Jianbing. I’ve never had it before so didn’t know what to expect for a Chinese crepe. But wow! It was super good. Very tasty and all the ingredients came together and delivered a very fulfilling experience.
This was my first time trying jian bing and I loved it - they do a really nice veggie version with egg. The chilli oil they use has that numbing spicy taste which I love! They also have a nice selection of drinks - I had their mango coconut cream which tastes a lot like a mango lassi. I am excited to try their sesame latte next time!
This place was recommended to me, and it was great. I had the Pork Jian Bing and the combination of flavours and textures was really delicious. I’ll definitely be coming back to try the other ones!
I had few Chinese crepe or Jian bing in London but nothing came close to the jian bings we had from this place. We walked all the way from Liverpool Street station so we can grab lunch from here while we walked all the way to Barbican. That's how much hyped up we were for this food. Luckily this place lived up to the hype.
We ordered the miso chicken and cumin lamb and both were amazing. If you are in the Spitalsfield market this place is whete I recommend you go for lunch.
Went on a weekday afternoon and the queue was not too long. Waited around 15 mins. Food was a tad too salty for my liking, but staff were friendly and were able to customise the food to my dietary preferences
After eating from their food hatch in Soho, I simply had to try out the Pleasant Lady Jian Bing Trading Stall in Spitalsfield Market when I passed them recently and order another delicious Jian Bing, the way I would describe this delightful Chinese Street food is that it's similar to a Mexican burrito and generally eaten for breakfast and hailed as "one of China's most popular street breakfasts"... The main ingredients of jianbing are a batter of wheat / grain flour, eggs and sauces, cooked quickly by spreading the batter on a specialised flat hotplate. It is then topped with different fillings and sauces including bocui (a thin and crispy fried cracker)... For the filling I chose iberico pork with additional egg, and included a fresh vibrant salad of cucumber & coriander, with hoisin sauce. It is then folded several times and cut before serving... Yummy, filling, and a must try...
Very pleased with this place, and there certainly was a very pleasant lady making our savoury crepes. The lady made our crepes in under 10 minutes!
They had a great selection of fillings including lamb, tofu, pork and chicken. I went for the pork. I took the pork filled one. It was delicious and very filling. The egg crepe exterior looked like it could have been a good keto option too!
They also did some very refreshing drinks and had some nice pastries. I ordered the mango creamed coconut drink with sago pearls and the ube 'purple yam' shaobing pastry.
Me and my friend were both impressed!
This was waaay more tasty than I imagined. Perfect ratio of spicy + savoury + fresh + crispy + chewy. Doesn't get much better than this for market food in London. £9.30 as of Aug 23
Such a delicious Chinese Street food!! They were busy inside Spitalfields Market on a Saturday afternoon, but the line moved quickly and it was worth waiting for!
Don’t know of other places that sell egg pancakes but Pleasant Lady is a unique flavour experience. I always go for the classic veg also in the pics and it never lets me down. It is also pretty healthy - thin flour crepe batter with (a lot of) eggs, cumcumber, parsley and flavourful spices.
Queues are long - but these are small stalls and all good places in the Spitafields market have similar issues. Go buy dessert somewhere else while you wait :)
a flavor explosion! a hit of freshness from the herbs and cucumber salad soaks up the juices from the meat filling (in my case, iberico pork). caution: there's no way to eat this and look cute at the same time. you might get grease running down your chin (true story), but it will be well worth it.
p.s. there might be a bit of a queue, but it goes by quickly enough!
Newly obsessed with this jian bing - my favourite spot in spitalfields market. Total flavour bomb: fresh, zesty, savoury, herby, crisp+soft - the ultimate light lunch or filling snack. Even at peak times when there's a bit of a wait it's completely worth it. Each time I take the last bite I'm plotting the next time I'll be back...
Big delish Taiwanese crepe packed with coriander, cucumber, chinese pickles, spicy chili oil and chicken! Piping hot and portion is great. If you are not a fan of coriander, this one is probably not for you :) But their purple yam shaobing is pretty good too!
Light fresh wraps with fantastic flavours, perfect afternoon top-up! I had the iberico pork Jian Bing, loved it.
Been dying to try this for the longeeeeeeeeest time. And it does not disappoint at all. Savory crepe with so many asian fillings and pickled veggies, an egg for color, and a freakin' cracker for crunch. I tried mine with grilled chicken inside but they have iberico pork, cumin spiced lamb, and the aformentioned miso grilled chicken as options. Pleasant Lady actually has a residency spot at Bun House in the Soho area but taking the extra trip to the Old Spitalfields Market is still pretty worth it. And for under £10 for a packed lunch! Sweet. 👌 (Additional £4.5 for the Iced Coffee Milk Tea. Awesome.)
Super tasty cumin lamb jian bing. Service was a touch slow but friendly and accommodating (making it less spicy and wrapping it separately for 2 ppl).
Would have it again 🤤
