What comes to mind when you someone say Chinese food? Maybe sweet and sour chicken? fried rice? or spring rolls? They’re nice, but if you want authentic Chinese cuisine then Royal China is the place to visit. Royal China does some amazing food and we wanted to showcase some authentic Chinese foods that you don’t usually see at your local takeaways.
For a long time I was not into dum sum. I can’t even recall if it was because of a mediocre experience, I just preferred other forms of Asian food. Even though I consider myself to be a huge fan of food, there are some things that I have refused to try before because they don’t appeal to me. There are now three amazing dim sum experiences under my belt (Hakkasan, Bintang – Kentish Town and Mama Lan – Dalston), which have completely changed my mind on dim sum. Whilst it was a territory I vowed to never go near, these three spots varying from fine dining to street food, firmly hit the spot on the dim sum discovery journey.

As if the universe picked up on my new love of dim sum, Royal China appeared on my radar. Heading west to Parsons Green was a mission. Being an Eastender, you really need a compelling reason to travel west of Bank. I was delighted when I came out of the station, as it was a lovely sunny day, the area is quite residential and sweet. On a little high street, there was the mysterious Royal China, its unassuming entrance concealed by a bus stop.
Now, because of where it is located and the daunting bus shelter in front of it, you can understand why passing trade my miss it. My advise to you is don't. This is by far what I would expect an authentic dim sum experience to look like in China. Interiors aside and even service aside, its all about the food here. The menus may look complicated to the beginner, but the team are on hand to help you figure out what you should order so you have a varied spread and you don't over do it. It is excellent for vegetarians too which is handy, as my dining companion was a non meat eater.
We were torn between so many options, as everything sounded great. We went for a 'tapas' vibe as the menu is built for sharing. It would be really boring to order your own starter and your own main because you would be missing out on the opportunity to taste lots of amazing food. Having studied the menu for ages, changing out minds constantly, we had a plan of action. We ordered a massive portion of noodles with crab. The crab meat was plentiful and free of shell pieces which can be very annoying. There were the most amazingly delicate parcels of king prawns on a bed of soy sauce as another choice. The king prawns were literally bursting with taste and the packaging was yummy melt in your mouth.
We had vegetable dumplings and some more prawn action in the form of chive dumplings. I also had an interesting portion of steamed chilli pork dumpling which was just delish. The deep friend prawn balls were not at all like how you may envisage, instead it was light and crispy. The only thing that did not completely tick the box for me was the spare ribs in black bean sauce. There was not a lot of meat, it was very bony and it didn't look as I had expected. I guess it's an acquired taste. Regardless, every other dish made up for this one error and then some. The service was seamless and as you can probably guess, the food was a bold 9 out of 10. I am constantly thinking about when I can have my next hit of those king prawns in that gorgeous delicate parcel. Looks like I will be heading west more often.
The Royal China Group definitely holds the right to claim serving some of the most authentic Chinese food in town. I’ve visited four of their branches in London and I have to say they’ve always reminded me of proper Chinese restaurants in Asia, particularly Hong Kong, Philippines and Singapore.
Chinese food has to be one of the most satisfying cuisines. Calories, salt, sugar, sweet, sour and so much satisfaction. While Chinese food is never going to win a health medal, when it comes to flavour it overshadows almost every other cuisine in an instant. With all that in mind we made our way just a short stroll from our home to Royal China in Fulham. While the brand is widely well-known for its Baker Street institution, Fulham is equally just as good and offers a more intimate dining experience.
The food here was the best dim sum I've had in London without a doubt. Perfect cheung fun, both the plain with it's (addictive and delicious) peanut sauce and sesame seeds and the vegetarian. The claypot chicken and sausage was also outstanding: big, juicy pieces of bone in chicken, huge mushroom slices and well seasoned sausage too. It was good value as well, at just under £20 pp, however the service should really be more welcoming at this level- very surly and curt!
I went to this Chinese place and had a lovely time here. The food was amazingly delicious, especially the chow mein which was cooked to perfection. The quantity was quite good as well. The ambience is pretty decent and the staff is quite warm and friendly.
The food was excellent and was cooked to perfection and was quite reasonably priced as well. The service was pretty quick and efficient with the staff being quite warm and friendly. The ambience was quite good with everyone having a fun time. I would love to visit this place again and would recommend others to try this place as well.
In case you want to eat a wholesome meal and also some starters like dim sums then this is an ideal place for you. I relished the roasted pork buns and they have become my all time favourite. You must try them for sure. The ambience is nice and so are the people who are serving you. The roasted duck could have been better than what they served. Worth a try!
I had the best meals the day before at the The Royal China. If you happen to be a person who loves Chinese then this is the place for you. They have an amazing menu and great variety of dishes to choose from. The food we had ordered was fresh and delicious. The staff was friendly and very cooperating. The services provided were amazing and I am most likely to show up very soon. Recommended highly.
This place has been around since years and i have been visiting it quite often with my family. To be fair, we have been satisfied with this place most of the times. On the downside, this place insists on adding service charge and incase you are paying by card they add another charge ! It is unnecessary rip off policy!
This place serves some of the best dimsums around this neighborhood, and now there isn't a need for me to travel to the other part of the city to have good quality dimsums. The only negative part about this place was that they charge 12.5% service charge and still expect us to leave them a tip.
The food which was served here was amazing. The service was immaculate and although the atmosphere was quite ordinary, the decor was really nice and stylish. The food tasted brilliant, and it was so good that it compensated for anything else that was lacking. It is the best Chinese cuisine served in this area.
This place has mixed reviews and i cannot comprehend why! To begin with, the menu is extensive and offers some interesting choices. We ordered Dim sums, noodles and peking duck. All the dishes were delicious and extremely flavorsome. On another upside, the pricing is reasonable and value for money! A great place!
A decent Chinese restaurant that serves maybe the best dim sum in the neighborhood. Other dishes on the menu are decent but the dim sums are a clear winner. the prices are reasonable with portions being more than adequate. the service is prompt and the decor is both modern and comfortable.
To begin with, i always give an extra credibility point for the incredible service where we are always reverted back! Arriving at this place without any advance reservation and asked to wait for about half an hour, we decided to take a stroll around. Received a call sooner from the manager informing us of free table ! On another upside, Dim sums are great !
I had already tried other branches of this chain of restaurants earlier and loved it very much. Hence, I decided to try this one for its dim sums which I had heard quite a lot about. I do not find enough good Chinese cuisine in the city, and hence, discovering another amazing place has really cheered me up. I loved every dish I ordered, especially the dim sums. The staff was pleasant enough and the atmosphere very 'chinese'. Definitely returning here!
This place offers very affordable and very good food. The place is very popular so make sure you go there early and occupy your own. The food cannot be called the best in town but it is definitely worth all the money you spend here. A very filling meal here can cost you about 14 pounds which is a great deal! Definitely recommended.
A new team is serving at this branch now. A very pleasant dining experience with their great hospitality. Food was great! Will be back again.
Enjoyable lunch here. Superb dim sum and attentive service. I absolutely loved the food. Their custard buns are a favourite.
The servers are probably even too attentive, especially if you are seated near the doors etc., the servers will be constantly checking you.
Only downside is being seated so close to other people that you can hear their conversations.
This restaurant is definitely not well suited to vegetarians / vegans if you are very strict with your diet. Accidentally ordered some meat items without knowing it (and I’m not a vegetarian/vegan myself).
They constantly refill your tea.
I would advise them to get bigger mugs for their teas... they’re very, very tiny...
The dim sums were delicious! Steamed custard egg yolk lava buns were impressive! Definitely a recommended place for dim sum!
Food always overdelivers and I enjoy to go back every time. Take away not even close to as good as the instore version. Would recommend eating in every time!
Delicious yum cha (aka sim sum). You can taste that it's been made fresh - it's so delicate! A little more pricey than other places we've explored but totally worth it!
Satisfied with the dim sum. Quite pricey but it’s a nice restaurant with good service, so I think that it’s reasonable.
Tried the dim sum here and they are all very tasty. Also like its al fresco dining area. Nice choice for summer.
This restaurant is much better then in Chinatown interns the service and the quality of the food. I don’t understand all the bad reviews on this, people come on stop spreading bad reviews, you should appreciate what you have in your local area! Don’t kill people business by your bad reviews, it’s not fair for them! I will definitely be always coming back here good food, great local Chinese restaurant, clean and tasty!
Dim sum was good. Not a spaces place but we came here for the food, not the ambiance.
The lobster is good. Love it. Authentic Chinese food, reasonable prices.
Love coming here as my neighbourhood dim sum spot, which always has a lovely buzz! Prices are fair for the area and dim sum is great - coming from a Hong Konger, trust me!
Today Dim Sum were just perfect. So fresh and delicate. One of the best meals ever. I also have to praise the quick service and pleasant atmosphere. As I am a lover of Dim Sum, i always enjoy a Sunday lunch with family and friends at Royal China. Usually at Baker Street (where you should arrive not later than 11:30 to find a table or queue for two hours) and also at Queensway ( the oldest one, as my Chinese friends told me). I never before tried this restaurant in Fulham, because of the bad reviews. I am really in shock to read so many bad reviews, where the all experience was spotless. I also found the prices to be very affordable. If you really like real Chinese food, don’t look further in Fulham. Royal China is the place.
