Clapham is a place full of places to eat from Indian to Chinese but at times and especially when those New Years resolutions are a forgotten memory in January what I like to call the 'trail month of the year' there are places like Chicago rib shack.

Based under the arches of the bridge by Clapham station the restaurant has modern interior look out for the fairy lights at night which can be seen till the early morning as the restaurant is open till 2am most days.

The food here is comfort food at its best with Milkshakes which come to £5 which can be seen as costly and I think a £3.50 price tag would be more fitting but are tasty especially the Oreo milkshake.

Staters to look out for are the chicken wings but be warned the spicy wings will have you gasping for water and I ain't no push over being half African and Jamiacan I'm use to my hot food!

The pulled pork spring rolls are amazing!!! & worth a special mention.....

I have had the ribs here before and you can't in my humble opioinon have a name like 'Rib shack' and not deliver on the ribs and they certainly do not disappoint in that department with flavours that are morish and a sauce that doesn't overpower the meat itself.

I tried the pancakes with bacon and syrup after all if your going to break a resolution you might as well go big.

The pancakes were not as good as mums (but then again who's pancakes are) but were fluffy and tasty all the same.

So if your in the Clapham area Chicago rib shack is worth a visit and they are always offering 25% or 50% off your bill so be sure to look out for that on your receipts.

Now this is what I call good hearty American cuisine. With a selection of ribs, sandwiches and house specials, this is perhaps not one for the newly converted vegetarian. Although there are a number of veggie options, the quality of meat on offer is enough to test anyone's principles.

I had the Baby Back Ribs, and would recommend them to anyone. The succulent meat was lathered in sticky BBQ sauce. In true American style I matched my main with the mash and gravy, a humble support to the shining protagonist.

The service was efficient despite the crowded nature of the restaurant (always a good sign of quality). A good spot for any meat lover.

You could say The Chicago Rib Shack's the godfather. The came before. The one with history. Originally opened in 1982, it paved the way for the all-American restaurants that are a dime a dozen in the city at the moment. It's had its moments, though, with the original site in Knightsbridge gone but not forgotten, instead operating across three food courts and a new opening in Clapham.

I was intrigued - I'm not a big wings and ribs fan but wanted to see what men, women and children the world over write home about so made the trek to no man's land (read: Clapham) to sample some Stateside wares.

Tucked beneath the Overground, it's positively shiny with newness - it's only been open since Monday after all. A few lime green booths and some tall tables line one wall with a chrome fitted bar down the other. The kitchen pass and bathrooms are towards the back and the place buzzes with activity.

We kicked off with cocktails, naturally. On the recommendation of the loveliest waiter I've ever been served by (a serious accolade right there for you, Stef), I went for the watermelon and ginger martini - a syrupy smooth Skyy vodka delight with a fresh kick from the ginger. This was then swiftly followed by another recommendation - the Mr Martinez. A flirty little number, this was one cocktail that was not short on flavour; combining Opihr (an oriental spiced gin), Luxardo maraschino, Dubonnet and orange bitters.

Then onto the food. We started with deep fried mac and cheese bites which was total and utter gluttony but melt in the mouth good, especially accompanied by a classic tomato salsa. The rest of the team also shared chicken wings (both BBQ and spicy) with blue cheese sauce, and the pulled pork scotch egg which wasn't so great a choice - the moistness of the meat meant the egg had essentially boiled inside rather than having that rich, gooey yolk that Pieminister has perfected.

Then came serious meat. Two huge racks of ribs - one the Baby Back (all I could think about was that scene in Austin Powers) and the other the Beef. As someone who steers clear of ribs normally, I was admittedly impressed to see these enormous portions served up on a wooden board with meat that fell from the bone without being sticky. Chinese restaurants, take note. We also ordered the Spicy Kiss Burger; a towering behemoth of meat and bun that came speared with a steak knife, brimmed with pickles and cheese and was far too big to fit into one's mouth without some serious slippage consequences. I chose the Po'Boy Sandwich purely because I'd burgered myself out at MeatMission on Tuesday so fancied something less heavy - served as an open sandwich, the breaded cod, calamari and prawn looked good on the menu but lacked any real flavour on the plate. You win some, you lose some.

Where The Chicago Rib Shack really came into its own was the sides: we chose the onion loaf which was essentially a deep fried heart attack and exactly how it sounds; manslaw - a beefed up version of coleslaw with the added bite from jalapenos that totally needs to be served everywhere as a much better alternative of its bland cousin; fries, naturally; and truffled mac and cheese that won the award for dish of the day. Cheesy staple, yes, but with truffle oil folded through, it was something that I would gladly eat every single day. Who cares about calories?

We finished with Twinkles (prosecco, vodka and elderflower) and espresso martinis over the vanilla cheesecake (bland), chocolate brownie (brilliantly chewy) and the key lime pie (warm). Having a pastry chef amongst the team, we were never going to be the most appreciative of pudding testers but there's definitely room for improvement here.

All in all, this place comes out on a positive. The atmosphere was good (the music was excellent), the staff were above and beyond brilliant and that mac and cheese... Would I go back? I'm not sure - but my uncertainty's only because I'm not completely sold on ribs. Yet.

Had the Po' Boy Sandwhich and it was delicious. Also had the mac and cheese (note not the bites but the side dish) and it was also great.

The service was friendly.

Although it's sometimes crowded it seems they always somehow manage to find enough seats.

What better way to spend a saturday morning, after a few too many pints the night before, than ingesting palates of ribs and pulled pork!
This little American styled diner is swaddled away under the clapham arches, wrapped in leather dining booths and tall stools it has that real grill house appeal.
The ribs are a little on the expensive side but are well worth the price, the burgers match in flavour and size.
Highly recommend this gem if you are a fan of American dining and eating your ribs with a bib!

Having been out in a Sunday afternoon for a few drinks we had that sort if hunger that you get after consuming a number of pints. We decided to stop in at the Chicago Rib Shack, located under the railway archs at Clapham North. With lime green leather booths & cool industrial lighting the decor of this place is very smart. The service was extremely friendly, I ordered the ultimate cheese burger whilst my other half ordered the baby back ribs. He ordered better, His ribs were huge & fantastically spiced with a sticky glaze. My burger was nice, it came with a giant pickle which I love, smoked cheddar & gruyere but it was a little overcooked for my liking, I also think the bun could have been improved. A stand out though were the sauces: chipotle mayo & BBQ Sauce both delicious & packing a punch. All in all a cool new joint in Clapham but I will be ordering the ribs next time!

Way down south in a land far away sat a castle full of ribs just waiting to play. The place was filled with meaty aromas, sending even the most foolhardy into full on food comas. Arriving at the glowing, light drenched door and the happiness inside was hard to ignore. Everyone tucking into juicy huge juicy ribs, protected by some super cool bibs! The guys at the bar were whisking up drinks, concoctions in jars to tickle us pink!

We sat with expectant grins on our faces, almost grabbing our knives and forks from their places! Then arrived the grub and the emotion in our eyes was nothing but love! We laid the dessert out in a line, cheesecake, chocolate and creamy lime. Sadly our meal had met it's end, but we'll be back with each and every friend!

Thanks to everybody at the newly opened Chicago Rib Shack in Clapham for making our experience such a tasty one, we felt truly loved. For all you northerners, this may just be a good enough reason to cross the river!

We’ve been tenants at Needspace? for the last 5 years and have recently expanded here too. The location is fantastic with great transport links and in the heart of the Clapham community. The service Needspace? provide is also fantastic too. As a small business, we’ve found them flexible towards our needs and they’ve made it possible for us to adapt and expand our space as our business has developed. The manager of this centre and the Needspace? team take good care of us here. Always happy to assist promptly with both our day-to-day needs in running a business and also in planning for the future. Taking the opportunity to rent space here has been one of the best decisions we’ve made. If you’re considering it. Just do it!
