Layla has pitched for a brave spot. The space it's currently occupying has held something like 8 restaurants and cafes in the last 20 years. Wimbledon Village has not traditionally been noted for its stability! This is one iteration of 33 High Street I hope remains for the foreseeable future.
Boasting a neat decor that incorporates Arabic style, the restaurant has a comfortable and classy atmosphere. The menu isn't going to set the world on fire - the usual suspects are on-board. Various mezze hot and cold starters with kebabs and the like for main course. The one area it does go out on a limb is with its seafood dishes. Sea bass is great but go for the Sayadieh - well-cooked and generously portioned. According to my wife, their prawn starter had 'the best-cooked prawns I've eaten in years'. Aside from that, the Houmous Awarma (houmous with diced and fried lamb) is very recommended. The lamb shank is nice, but there are better options on the menu.
It's quite expensive - that comes with the location - but I can see repeat visits in the near future.
Loved the restaurant, food absolutely delicious, delicate and attractive, the staff were courteous and attentive. Will definitely be back
