Great local restaurant. Delicious Thai food in charming setting - can recommend the tempura vegetables and tofu green curry, in particular. Helpful staff checked for me that the tempura batter didn't contain egg. (I'm vegan but my partner was equally satisfied with his beef curry.) The curries were quite hot but I'm sure they could tone down if requested.
Authentic Thai food, was very satisfied. We only went because the kitchen stays open til 10pm, but I was glad we ended up here. You can choose to eat in the restaurant or in the pub, meaning it suits the lazy Sundays, family celebrations and even the first date. Reasonably priced with a starter averaging £5.50 and a main at around £9. And being a pub, they beat most restaurants' drink choices hands down! Had the starter platter, tom yam soup, and "drunken duck", which was new to me but was pretty decent. Satay was the best I've had in UK. Soup was authentic although feels a little overpriced at £6.50, but perhaps I'm just finding something to be picky about!
Hidden local gem. In need of food on New Year's Day after a tramp round Nunhead Cemetery, Chai's seemed like a great idea especially when we knew we could have a cheeky pint beforehand in Skehan's and then wander out the back door and down the stairs to Chai's which is situated in the garden of the pub. It's definitely one of those places you need to know about as you are highly unlikely to come across it by accident.
The restaurant itself is basically a large conservatory with chunky wooden furnishings and is decorated with a nice variety of Thai artefacts. The staff are all very welcoming and pleased to offer advice if it's needed.
I have lost count of the number of times I have dined here with B and friends over the past few years; it's a local favourite and can be relied on to serve up a tasty Thai feast whenever you feel the need for some spicy comfort food without breaking the bank.
We kicked off with our usual starter of the Jasmine Platter which was a nice selection of Thai favourites. Our guest Patrick had the Tom Woon soup which came with plenty of well flavoured chicken. For the mains we had a masaman curry, chicken panang and my personal favourite the tamarind duck which is a sliced breast sitting on a bed of seaweed with a very tasty sweet and sour sauce.
There is a small reasonably priced wine list or you can order beer or larger from the pub and have it brought through.
It gets very popular with the locals here at the weekend so I would recommend booking in advance. We tumbled out into the chilly night air well satisfied with the way we had kicked off 2011.
Delicious food with a very good mix of vegetables. Portion size and overall environment great.
This place is magical!! And part of the voted number 1 pub in London 2023! The food is so authentic and absolutely amazing every time. If you haven't already experienced it you need to!!!
I'm a local and I do love the food here. Best pad thai I have ever had. However, the restaurant itself is completely soulless. Awful overhead lighting and zero atmosphere. Sit in the bar or in the garden and order. Unfortunately on tonight's visit we had to sit in the restaurant itself. The service was utterly laughable. The paper menu literally stuck to the table because it was so filthy. We had to ask the waiter to clean it, which he did halfheartedly and with wet wipes. When the food arrived the waiter said "enjoy your meal" but we had been given no plates or cutlery! In the end we had to take cutlery from behind the bar ourselves. Possibly the worst service I've ever had anywhere. The food was just wonderful though.
I went to Chai's garden over the weekend with my boyfriend and it was lovely. The food and service was great. I was served by Susana who made really nice food recommendations and I will definitely be back.
Just been for my husbands birthday. Lovely meal and lovely friendly staff. Great to see Lin and her daughter again. Food perfect as usual. It's great to get out again.

Visited this place after seeing some good reviews and really enjoyed it! We had to wait a bit longer than expected for our mains because of a large group in at the same time but the service was very friendly. Green curry was nice and spicy and the chicken pad Thai was very fresh. The garden platter starter was a bit small to share between two people! Overall the prices are fairly cheap (same price as a takeaway place) and it's nice to find a good, local Thai place where you can sit and eat. Will definitely go back!
This is the nicest Thai food I've had in while! Really fresh flavours and non greasy. Generous portions in the take away. Only criticism is although I loved the satay chicken, I would have loved some peanut sauce instead of sweet chilli. Noone else seemed to mind though!
Really glad I've found this place. Looking forward to dining in come 2021.
Very nice traditional Thai food, very friendly staff and lovely atmosphere. Highly recommend everyone to go if they enjoy Thai cuisine. However the only complaint is about the sweet and sour pork, because the pork was 90% batter and only 10% actual pork. But I do recommend Sea food lovers to get the seafood of fire, which was very nice and spicy!
I’ve been a regular customer at this venue for a number of years and it has been consistently first rate in all respects. Thanks to the lovely staff also.
Ate here on Sunday and again had a great meal. Try to get there when we come up to visit family and always thoroughly enjoyed the food there. Will certainly visit when next in area
Ordered takeaway on a Saturday evening and was pleased and surprised when the delivery arrived much faster than the 45 mins quoted.
The quality and flavour of each dish was exceptional - the chicken satay, even without the sauce was wonderfully flavoured and the Tamarind Duck was excellent.
Would only say the Prawn Cracker portion (whilst free) was too small.
Excellent Thai food, quite last night when we ate although it was a Thursday night and we were late in lovely attentive waitress who made us feel very welcome.
I have marked this as a four rather than a five only because it could have been a little warmer in the restaurant.
This is the best thai restaurant I have been to in south london and it's as authentic as most I have been to in Thailand. It's a very sweet little place out the back of the pub. The staff are pleasant and the food is superb!!! I think the lady who has given the one bad review on here must be a disgruntled customer and obviously extremely nasty and stupid to boot. I mean if someone had found a cockroach in their takeaway in the uk, the restaurant would be closed down. Of course in thailand it's normal to eat them :)

Great service, great prices, very friendly atmosphere and the food was delicious. First time eating at this restaurant after living so close to it for so long and I can 100% say that I will be returning. 10/10 thankyou
