he Pyrotechnists Arms is the PERFECT pub on ALL levels, With Terrific Weekend Menu
I have lived in Nunhead now for nearly six years - for me The Pyrotechnists Arms is the PERFECT pub on ALL levels.
You may ask why?
1) The Pyro is unpretentious, full of character with the perfect ambience - there is something very special that it feels much more than just another pub - almost like being in a large living room with real people who are not obsessed with finger touching devices. I always go into relax mode with a large glass of white wine, £2 in the jukebox for 11 plays and sink into one of the comfortable sofa's, my fave spot is right next to the open fire, where I can absorb this special place.
2) This lovely pub has remained loyal to it's very traditional Irish influenced heritage.
3) It has never followed the norm of so many pubs by having its original heart ripped out to be replaced by the usual very fake - oh let's create a lounge effect with bookcases and false veneer pseudo boring normal.
4) The Pyro has so much character with delightful original features including the original Chandeliers AND wait for it - a REAL open fire - I include images here to confirm the flames are REAL. How many pubs in London can you count that STILL have an original working fireplace?
5) Despite my obvious sexuality I have always feel welcome here.
6) This place resonates with warmth character and is so much more than your run of the mill pub. With a fiercely loyal customer base I love spending time here. It actually has all the ingredients to make the PERFECT pub - and at weekends the ingredients of the food are so good that to date I have enjoyed the excellent Sunday roasts expertly created by Maggie for three weekends in a row - and Shepherd's Pie on Monday followed by sponge pud with the best custard I have ever experienced - this special place ticks ALL my boxes.
7) Terrific jukebox!
8) Excellent affordable bar prices and weekend food served in very generous measure - terrific food with a absolutely very traditional Irish/English flavour.
Food is served Saturday Sunday Monday from 1 to 5pm ( Sunday's for roasts ).
9) Lovely bar staff and friendly regulars..
10) An abundance of comfortable seating so inviting you don't want to leave.
This is my all time favourite pub in London.
So far I have enjoyed the Sunday Roasts prepared by Maggie so much that I have returned again and again.
If you are looking for a designer label menu of bite size proportions adorned with chefs decorations and prices that extend your overdraft then The Pyrotechnists Arms is not for you.
For years the tradition of 'Sunday Lunch' had not appealed to me - well The Pyro changed my habits of a lifetime - they say 'a leopard never changes it's spots' well you have changed mine.
The Sunday Roasts AND the menu offered on Saturday and Monday is to DIE FOR.
So far I have enjoyed on three Sundays Roast Lamb, Roast Beef, Roast Chicken - I so want to try the Boiled Bacon and Roast Pork - well there is next Sunday to look forward to!
On Monday 6th March I had the Shepherd's Pie ( the boiled bacon option had sold out as it is such a popular choice ) - PERFECTION - followed by sponge pud with the best proper home-made custard that I have ever tasted - £14 for the meal including a large glass of wine, in the perfect pub cooked AND served at your table by Maggie, what more could you ask for?
I had a great three-course Sunday lunch for £15! The food was great and the service and staff treated us very well. I highly recommend it...
Went to see a band then some karaoke being good.
Been having issues at life, gone to this pub recently, and now I frequent there often. Not for the drinks, but for the vibes. Karaoke every Friday, meet new people, see the legendary nunhead Elvis, amazing bartenders, clean place, amazing drinks selection. Definitely worth a visit or a new local pub choice. Best atmosphere ever.
Great local, doesn't get more south london that this, good choice to watch a game as they have a massive screen, staff is always nice, patrons all seem to know each other, basic choice of beers but at a reasonably good price. Great beer garden at the front looking over nunhead green.
Proper pub with decent selection of lagers and Guinness on tap. A great local pub but as a first tome visitor I was made to feel welcome. Live music regularly and a good mix of characters. Will definitely make the trip there again.
Went here after a bit of a disappointment at a pub up the road. In contrast this place had a nice friendly atmosphere and excellent service from the bar staff who were a pleasure to be served by. Also let us bring in pizza from over the road. Recommended if you are in the area
A pub that's been updated without suffering gentrification. Unlike a lot of bars in the area you can still see locals enjoying a pint and a chat. The bar staff are friendly, fast and more interested in serving you rather than checking their Instagram feeds. If you'd like to see a local boozer enjoy a pint in The Pyro. If you'd like to hang around waiting while the staff compare their latest tattoos...other bars in the area are available.
Fantastic spot for a drink in summer, staff very helpful and can't do enough.
Would return
Love it. Great staff always something going on always some great music being played.
Good old style pup. Friendly staff and customers.
The home of the mighty South East London Giants, the biggest and the best. Let's be honest, they put up with a lot of our antics and always make sure we have a good time. Legends.
Social pub with great deals on drinks. Good pub if you’re a group who are extremely thirsty. Football is usually on and is great during the Euros
Quite quiet and unassuming, but the lady behind the bar was lovely. Only stopped in for a drink on our way elsewhere, but I certainly enjoyed it!
This was the venue for my mums wake, sad times but nice to be back in our neck of the woods ♥️
Brilliant space for functions with wonderful friendly staff. Good location and atmosphere.
If your into sports then this is the place to be...
2 TV screens plus a massive projector screen 12x15ft
always showing box office fights
the last 3 Anthony Joshua fights you could not move or get in
plus they do Irish food in the week
friendly staff and the locals make you feel welcome
Always liked the pub and alway had and have a great night in there...time to pop in people!!!😙
