Walking up the stairs and you come to the bar area and you see there are a few seating areas but you don’t get to appreciate the size and number of covers (over 300) till you walk around. This place is huge but it is all partitioned with screens so you never feel isolated or that you are in a big function type space and keeping a nice authentic experience wherever you are seated.

The authenticity is further enhanced by the traditional seating section which I think is great. Here you have to take your shoes off and seat on the floor but made more comfortable with a sunken area so very pleasant and a coy pond to really make you feel you are away and transported to the Far East.

I am also informed the chefs are from various areas of Thailand so allowing for regional dishes to be both truly authentic but also allowing for fusion dishes between different areas of Thailand to be created.

The staff are so welcoming and warm and even on a cold day you feel warm from the moment you enter.

The drinks
Let’s begin our journey with the vast drinks selection. A full menu of cocktails and mock-tails that even a nightclub would struggle to make and all made in house from fresh ingredients. Including the mixers which are all hand made. I don’t think anyone would leave dissatisfied or disappointed from the offering here for sure. Always so happy to see uniqueness and variety in a drinks menu that also caters for non-drinkers.

The food
The menu is authentic and you will struggle to choose which dishes to order as you will want to try them all, so I would advise you go with friends so you can order more. The servers are really nice and so is management so down to earth and were happy to help and guide.

Starters
Thai Prawn Cakes served with a sweet chilli sauce - Really soft and the home made chilli sauce shines through.

Even the prawn crackers are served with one of the most amazing and freshly made home made pickles I have ever had. I am not a pickle person but Yum Yum has converted me.

Soup
Tom yum goong [House special hot & sour soup with prawns, mushrooms & Thai herbs] - A nice clear soup with a kick and served with prawns and nice chunky mushrooms. Had a fresh and zesty lemon taste that really refreshes and cleansed the pallet. A great starter for these colder months.

Main Courses
Lamb Mussaman - Another house special similar to Beef red curry but more of a kick and more complex taste structure which is richer and creamier in taste. The lamb just melts and a dish you have to try. I can’t wait to have this again.

Som Tam [Spicy grated Papaya & Carrot salad with palm sugar, Thai herbs and peanuts] - served cold but fresh with just the right amount of spice and crunch. Really refreshing salad to start and compliment the other flavours of the main dishes.

Beef Red curry - Beef red curry an amazing creamy coconut and spicy taste. Not too spicy and beef perfectly cooked. If you want more spice go for the Lamb Mussaman.

Thai Noodle soup with Duck [Choice of pad Thai or Ho-fun noodles in beef stock with slow cooked beef or Duck, spring onions, bean sprouts, celery, spring onions, coriander and chilli] - A more subtle dish for those who like it mild and not spicy. We had the duck and was again cooked to perfection.

Stir-fried Morning Glory - Morning glory crunchy and with the right amount of fresh garlic.

Dessert
Banana Fritter with coconut ice cream [Fresh homemade coated banana fritters served with Coconut ice cream and golden syrup] - I am no fan of coconut other than in perfumes (love the smell as I do with coffee but I don’t drink coffee) but in some cases it’s just right amount of flavour and in this case it was perfect and compliments the banana fritter so worth a try.

Thai Coconut Roll [Warm coconut filled pancake served with coconut ice cream and honey] - One of Yum Yum’s signature dishes. As this is served with the same excellent coconut ice cream I prefer this dish as the pancake was freshly made.

Conclusion
The sign of a good place is in the memories it creates and I can still see the place and taste the food so this does go into my top 10 places and finding good Thai restaurants which are not a chain is harder to find these days so I am glad this came along.

Portion sizes are all sharing portions. So be ready for a doggy bag or two.

This restaurant was ok but not the best, I ordered coconut rice and a beef stir fry. The coconut rice was way too overpowering for me I had to return it and exchange it for an egg fried rice. The scenery however was amazing. To see more about this restaurant visit my blog. Www.temitastes.com

Great food, beautiful ambience, a real gem in such an unlikely neighbourhood. I had the Pad Ke-Mao which was nice and spicy, loved the flavours and lucky for us it was happy hour so two Mocktails for the price of one; winning!

One of my favourite local places to go for dinner is Yum Yum, a well known Thai restaurant in Stoke Newington. It was on Gordon Ramsay’s F Word awhile ago, competing for the nation’s best local Thai. Their signature dish is the Mussaman Curry- which I can whole heartedly recommend! You’ll find Yum Yum on Stoke Newington High Street, in a huge townhouse set behind some iron gates. It looks like someone’s house and not a typical restaurant. Inside, however, is massive! It’s actually a tardis.

There’s a sunken seating area, where you have to take your shoes off and get comfy on a cushion and I love it! This time round, we sat at normal tables as that section wasn’t open yet. Boo. I consoled myself with a passionfruit mojito and Tiger beer. I’m not usually a beer drinker, but if I do, it’s Tiger beer all the way! It brings back memories of hot, sunny days and the beach growing up. Onto dinner! We ordered soft shell crab and golden bags for starters.

I’m a fiend for soft shell crab- it’s just a shame sometimes it looks like deep fried spiders, but honestly it’s delicious. I’m not really a fan of the deep fried goldenbags, I’d prefer them steamed, but Robin enjoys them. For dinner, we shared steamed sea bass and grilled duck with sweet and sour sauce with a side of garlicky morning glory.

The food is great, the service friendly and the cocktails are lethal. If that doesn’t sway you, maybe the fairy lights and topless statues outside will? A dinner for two will cost around £60- more if you’re on the booze. They also do takeaways that you can order online. It’s such a pretty venue, I’d say give it a visit and ask for a seat at a sunken table!

Yum Yum is a great Thai restaurant that has been around for many years. It is set in a listed Georgian period building and is massive in size. Yum Yum has many different dining areas, including a section where diners can sit on floor cushions and eat from knee-high tables and also features private dining rooms. The interior decor is both chic and contemporary and Yum Yum has a cool suave vibe about it. The eatery has a good cocktail bar and a rather large wine cellar. Yum Yum holds regular Jazz evenings in one of its lounges and periodically holds special Thai events for its diners. These can be a pleasant surprise and often turn the evening into more of an event than just a meal.
There is an extensive menu and the quality of the dishes varies from good to very good, with one or two star dishes as well. This can be surprising as sometimes Yum Yum is extremely busy, having 300 covers, and yet they still manage to generally maintain the overall good quality of their dishes. The waitering staff are also generally very friendly and eager to please.

I have eaten here many times overs the years and below are some of my favourite dishes.
Crispy Soft Crabs, Hot Wings, Beef Paneng Curry, Chicken Ginger (Stir-fry with Mushrooms), Lamb Mussaman Curry - served with Pumpkin and Potatoes (my favourite dish), Lobster Pad Prik Pao
(Whole lobster stir-fried with chilli oil, soya sauce and oyster sauce), Pla Choo Chee
(Whole Sea Bass cooked in a creamy red curry sauce) and the Squid with Chilli and Basil Leaves.

Yum Yum always reminds me of my favourite Thai holiday resorts and makes me dream of my next far-eastern holiday. If you love Thai food, I think that you will love Yum Yum.

I do like this place with the choice of sitting normal or floor seats. over the years i feel this place has got bussier and they started loosing there touch with food. My recent visit was a little disappointing. Ordered mexed seafood rice and lacked flavour and seasoning. It almost tasted like the seafood hadnt been cooked and just placed on the rice. The starters were amazing so cant fault it all.

We started with chicken & prawn on toast and duck spring rolls, which were delicious. Both tasted as though they had been freshly cooked and had very distinctive flavours. I often find fried food ends up with the same, slightly prawny, taste - regardless of the ingredients. For the main we shared kang peneng, a mild beef and peanut curry with coconut milk and green curry with prawns. The thinly sliced beef was in a rich sauce, other than lacking any vegetables, I really couldn't fault it. The green curry included the traditional aubergines, bamboo and basil leaves which I love, but there were only 5 p

There seems to be an influx of restaurants in London recently writing their own reviews before they’ve even begun – places whose titles tell you what they think of their food even if you might heartily disagree – The Gourmet Burger Kitchen, The Fine Burge

Best well known restaurant in hackney. They have been there for 15+ years and have always delivered. Would recommend for any occasion. The decor is beautiful and has its own area to suit whatever needs you may have. Great food and wonderful cocktails.

As a non-foodie who just doesn't get why anyone would want to pay a tenner for noodles, I tend to prize value over apparently exceptional taste and so end up avoiding places which will look to cost more than 20 quid or so per head. However sometimes I get the opportunity to try out what, in my inexperience and lack of class, I call a fancy restaurant. I've heard a lot about Yum Yum so was quite looking forward to trying it out.

The first thing you notice is the ambience and vibe. Housed in a gorgeous Georgian building (no I didn't know that from seeing it, I had to look it up on the website) but with a clean and sleek inside it manages to impress before you even get a chance to sit down. And inside the place seems to go on forever, and despite it being a late Friday night I was surprised to see the whole place full, although looking around it seemed to be a favourite for large Indian-groups celebrating a birthday. Especially cute was the on-floor seated area; they even made people take off their shoes, bless.

Unfortunately we were seated on a single long table row, making it pretty impossible to talk to anyone other than those in our respective immediate vicinities; but this is the price paid for cramming so many people into a single place.

Food-wise Yum Yum was of a high, yet paradoxically very standard, quality; I enjoyed the starters much more than the mains (leaving me wondering exactly how appropriate it would be to just stick to 3-4 starters in a place like this). Exotic items like stuffed chicken wings and prawns and chicken on toast were pretty wonderful actually.

Since I left early I'm not quite sure what the final cost per head came to; I left £20 for my two starters and a noodle main (so no curry) and forwent any drinks which ranks Yum Yum as "pricey" in my (admittedly tight) book. That said I don't have any major complaints about lack of value since it was literally such a nice place to eat in; a quick look on Top Table shows that there are some offers thrown around and with that in mind the place becomes a much better candidate for a return visit.

I used to walk past this place all the time and dismiss it for its rather over sized and pompous entrance. However when I eventually went in I didn't regret it. The space here is massive by the way. On the outside it looks tiny, but once you make your way past the smoking shed and water fountain you walk up the stairs into the bar which serve great cocktails before being seated in what I can only describe as a foodhall. We were very late on a Saturday, but the staff didn't mind and waited on us as if it was the beginning of service. I had a fantastic green curry which was fresh and light. A must go restaurant

Both the bar and restaurant of Yum Yum deliver a top experience, with an excellent variety of dishes, a wide range of wine and spirits and an extensive cocktail menu.

Decor is modern Thai, a sleek woody interior with strategically placed wooden screens and cool, lounge-style lighting. You get a lot of groups of people coming here for a meal on a Friday or Saturday night, combining it with drinking at the bar, so it's become a popular starting point for a night out in Stoke Newington. It's busy without being noisy - a nice ambience.

We chose to start with the mixed seafood tempura, satay king prawns and (the standard but impossible to ignore) Thai fish cakes, which were very flavoursome and thick. We had a selection of kang paneng, yellow pumpkin curry and lemon grass chicken, mixed with a pad Thai and some coconut flavoured rice.

I've had takeaways from Yum Yum before, which disconcertingly arrive heat sealed in plastic like the ready meals you get in Tesco, and occasionally found some of the dishes to be a little too oily. But on this occasion everything was cooked perfectly.

The maitre d' was helpful and the staff too were fairly attentive considering they looked like the place had all its covers filled for the night, with a clockwork turnover of tables from groups waiting at the bar.

Generally speaking they put more effort into the overall experience at Yum Yum than the vast majority of Thai restaurants: food, drinks, decor, atmosphere, service. It's set in a lovely old building on the high street with a courtyard at the front and stone steps leading up.

There are some West End restaurants that could learn a thing or two from this place.

This is hands down my favourite date night spot. SUNDAYS and WEDNESDAYS is happy hour all day, so you get 2 for the price of 1 on selected cocktails. The food is so hearty and filling that we always start with the soft shell crab. The 5 rum punch is punchy and will get you drunk if you're not careful. The staff are so lovely we are returning customers and have made friends with the waitresses so its a joy to see them. The service is always hospitable and welcoming they do go above and beyond to give the very best experience. The atmosphere is so lovely you definitely forget where you are when you're inside, they have floor seating with fish nearby. There are also tables and chairs, a cozy bar area and outdoor intimate seating. Overall a venue to suit every occasion

Such an interesting experience - there’s a variety of seating options - I found this really funny because you can sit on the floor but they have the provision where it sinks into the floor so you’re comfortable. WILD ! They also have a happy hour which was one of the main reasons we visited. The staff were super friendly and the decor was beautiful. I ordered the three sauce fish - which was not my favourite Thai dish ever, my friend had the pad Thai which she recommends.

Easy to find. Well, the Uber driver dropped us right in front. Inside, we were immediately ushered to our table. Service is lightning fast. Upon giving your orders, food will be brought to you in less than 20 minutes. Super friendly - too generous with the smiles and greetings, sometimes I feel overwhelmed and think they’re fake. Food was delicious though and prices are reasonable. I had the prawn noodles and I loved it. The portions are also just right, anyone can finish them off without stuffing themselves. It being a weekday, not many people so dining experience was overall relaxed. One star off because my seat was full of rice so had to dust them off. They should check that the seats are clean as well before assigning a table to diners. Will not mind returning though.

Outstanding Thai food. Best i have tasted in whole London. The authentic Thai dessert took our breath away-it was fantastic. Great atmosphere and has a huge seating capacity which is a biggest Thai Restaurant I’ve visited. It has a huge bar with great selection of cocktails. It has a separate seiza seating area. Also it has amazing art display. The staff and management are very welcoming and helpful. The price is very reasonable for the exceptional quality so I recommend to all. They deserve 10 star. I thanked my husband for surpassing me on our anniversary and having our dinner here.

My friend and I were just passing by on a Wednesday evening and got attracted by the lovely exterior Thai style of the building. We sat outside and enjoyed a few cocktails during their happy hour! The atmosphere was great and all the team members extremely kind and friendly that we decided to stay longer and have dinner. The inside of the restaurant was very well curated and welcoming with colourful paints made by one of the lady who was working there. The menu was large and with a lot of different choices. We went for a mix platter to start, dim sum , duck in special sauce and green curry, accompanied with a bottle of Chardonnay. We found every dish delicious and so decided to try also theirs hot chocolate fondant and fried bananas. I would absolutely recommend this place, great for only drinks or a fully dinner! A big thanks to the staff who has been incredibly friendly and really made our night! You’ll see us again 😊

We had a group of mixed food preferences sharing a dinner at Thai Restaurant Yum Yum in Stoke Newington. It’s a rambling establishment with several different seating styles in a beautiful late Queen Anne’s (English Baroque if architecture is your yam) style building (circa 1712). They have paid great attention to the decor as well as the menu. The ingredients are fresh and options change with seasonal availability. There is a dedicated Gluten-free menu and both vegetarian and vegan meals are marked. There isn’t currently a vegan option on the dessert menu, but they have committed to adding one. A range of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks are on offer. I was thrilled with my vegan stir fried vegetables with added tofu; all elements were perfectly cooked and flavoured. The watermelon juice was an unusual treat and deliciously refreshing. There are a handful of other vegan options and I would definitely also order the same meal again. The gluten-free, vegetarian and carnivore diners all had high praise for their selections. We opted for the sunken seating which accommodates up to six in a cosy conversation friendly configuration. I took a stroll and noted a variety of different zones with tasteful and consistent atmospheres throughout. The owner was happy to proudly give a little background to the restaurant; they were excited to recall being on MasterChef twice and The F Word with Gordon Ramsay in 2010. After 43 years in the restaurant business they are clearly still determined to provide a quality dining experience stating a business philosophy that chooses customer satisfaction over expansion.

I totally recommend this place 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼. Been 3 times and each time was up to my expectations. The food is tasty, full of flavour, cocktails are lovely and nice portions are being served. The atmosphere and decor is also included in my 5 stars. I have always been seated at the Thai style table by the little fish pond which I love. The staff is friendly giving good recommendations and the service is also good as I never have to wait for very long to get the food. In terms of price, it is reasonable and for me does reflect the value for money
