Went there for my lunch and opted to have a south India thali which really didnt upset me. Everything was nice and properly cooked. It actually had a hint of authentic Indian flavours.
Best thing i like here is their buffet for 6 pounds. It is a value for money place for a hungry weekend afternoon. The only thing which i dint like their mutton is not upto the mark but on the whole a good place with authentic south indian options
Food is great . Friendly staff . Buffet breakfast served with varieties of dosa . Prices are very reasonable. We are happy to have chennai dosa in the area
When you miss fun of being home and all South Indian flavours then chennai dosa is the place for u. Been there for more than 12 times. Nice place and good food to enjoy with your friends
Had Filter coffee, Masala dosa, etc..
Filter coffee is good but too strong, has to ask for extra milk :p
Everything else is good with a reasonable price..
I had visited this place in 2014 after a week of eating north Indian cuisine. It was a pleasant surprise and the quality of food didn't disappoint considering the price of the breakfast. They charged 4 pounds for ulimted breakkfast which had Dosa, pongal, idly, vadai.
Wonderful food with same taste of South India.. friendly service and awesome chef.. had a tummy full of food in 20 pounds for two person... lamb curry was awesome...
When you are away from home for a long period, you tend to search for places when you can get the food you taste buds are used to.
It's a South Indian joint, specializing in the same cuisine. It provides with a value for money also. It won't be a great place for formal dine out, but for regular casual visit it is good.
The Dosa varieties and the accompaniments are good and you may want to try out something different on each visit.
May feel cramped and services to be on the downside during the busy times,
The food at this restaurant is amazing. It is inexpensive and extremely tasty. This is one of my favourite Indian restaurants. The layout is basic like a canteen. The prices are reasonable and the food tastes amazing. The quality of the food varies with which branch you visit. This branch offered the best food.
I have been visiting this place on and off for the last eight years. I was here very recently and the quality of food and service is still as impressive as before. Therefore, i never give this place a skip and always stop be when i am crossing the area.
I will surely return to this place for the wholesome experience I had here. From the staff, the food and even the ambience, nothing about this place seemed to disappoint me.
The portions served by the chef are really huge and will never leave you craving for more.
If you are looking for a hearty meal at a reasonable price then you must give this place a shot!
I had breakfast buffet there and the food is average. Not too good in taste but the staff are very friendly people. Very few items but yes ull full your tummy to a brunch.
PS: if you want a crisp dosa you have to separately state them to prepare so.
Visited this place as I was running out of time one night and craving for Indian food. Gladly I found a good South Indian restaurant with some additions of Indian Chinese and a few North Indian Items. I wish they had stuck to their guns serving only South Indian items.
I was too hungry to wait and hence ordered the south Indian thali which was very good. The service prompt.
The 5 foot long dosa seems to be a hit with the Indian communities there in London and is a novelty anyways as we don't get to see much of that in Mumbai.
Pricing is not bad either.
All in all a decent South Indian restaurant in London!! I would say the food is way better than the Bangladeshi owned Indian restaurants in London which should be avoided at all costs which comes with highly questionable authenticity.
Frankly I am not a big fan of Saravana Bhavan here as the sambhar is not even close to the one you get in chennai. And Saravana Bhavan is always crowded and thus this made me look for the other good dosa joints in East Ham.
Chennai Dosa makes brilliant dosas. My favourite is the Green chilli and Coriander dosa. The sambhar is good as well. I always used to go back for the dosa but after a point i started trying out the other appetizers as well. Few of them were good but a few were utter disasters. I would recommend people to try only their south indian appetizers as they are very nice but the others are the usual indo chinese that you will find.
Tried dosa for the first time. Loved the experiance and food.
I have been to this restaurant a couple of times. Good dosa's and they also offer non-vegetarian food which is a bonus in comparison to Sarvanaa Bhavan that is also down the road, although in terms of Dosa's I think Sarvanaa would win.
However, the highlight of this place is the 5 foot family dosa that I shared with a couple of other friends and it was soooper fun to do (see the smile on my face? and yes I pose with my food ;)). The gigantic dosa was the highlight, which the all of us together couldn't finish and it cost only 10 quid.
Since I have been here on a couple of occasions, I tried the veggie buffet once and was disappointed as the food was cold and felt like it lay there since a long long time. Next time I went they didn't have the parantha's I wanted (apparently ran out of them), but the meat curry was nice anyway.
In summary, this place is good for the price you pay. If you want a dosa I would still recommend Sarvanaa Bhawan over this one..(unless you want the 5 feet long one ;))!!
Nice clean no frills South Indian cuisine served on a combination of metal trays and banana leaves. Largely vegetarian (and as such requiring little thought), the food was simple yet tasty, with our Masala Dosas being deceptively light and so adequately filling and satisfying.
The East Ham restaurant was clean and tidy if a little cramped, but the service was adequate and fast. If anything Chennai Dosa is a perfect fast-food Indian, and at less than a fiver per head perfect for a quick evening meal. Recommended!
Very happy experience; incredible food, lots of great vegetarian options, very cheap prices, for quick meals, tiffins and even buffets, and lovely service with friendly staff. Really enjoyed. Awesome South Indian restaurant.
Amazing authentic Indian food at an affordable price. Every time we come to East Ham we have food at Chennai Dosa. Everything has always been great. I loved Malai Kofta, Dosas and Mixed Oothapam. They also make amazing Indian breads. With the great menu they have you will find vegan, vegatarian and non-veg dishes. Great service as well! Highly recommended!
Decent place to have south Indian food in East Ham. My first experience was good. Can visit to eat again !
Great great service and serve delicious authentic Indian food! Will definitely come back for more. Loads of variety on the menu, the friendly waitress help us by recommending their popular dishes! Very helpful..
Before finding this gem, we went to another restaurant beside the Indian temple (restaurant name start with an "A") recommended by Google Search. The service there is horrible. Everything is not available and the staff didn't even bother to tell us what's available. We waited for a while and the staff keep ignoring us so we left.
Really glad that we left for good and found Chennai Dosa :)
All the food is excellent except chicken 65. It is the worst chicken 65 I have ever had. Hyderabad Spice perhaps make the best Chicken 65 in London - properly tossed in Curry leaves and peppers that melts in your mouth while the chicken 65 in Chennai dosa was simply deep fried pieces of chicken with neither flavor nor tossed - very dry and hard to chew. All other food is good, but you really need to stop ripping people in the name of Chicken 65.
My sister and I visited today to order something from the extensive menu we'd seen online. Once there we were told they have a breakfast buffet too. Oh wow. It was amazing and so very tasty, unlimited and so cheap. The staff were very friendly and welcoming so we're definitely going back but next time we'll try the lunch buffet. My mouth is salivating at the thought!
Overall I would say..... you gotta try this, if not, then fine..... more to go round! 😉
