Love it here ,it's my go to place when Iv got a cold too.staff are amazing the owner is so kind and the food is so good .worked our way through most of the menu over the year or so . Everything tastes good I wouldn't say if it didn't .portions a huge too
Can't fault this place. Lovely manager who took a liking to my two boys and gave them a cheeky ice cream each too after a fantastic phad Thai. I had the green chicken curry with steamed rice. The waiting staff were all so friendly. Will be coming back. Haven't been here for years but will be BACK!!
For what you pay and the atmosphere, best value Thai (or just about best value anything) in London. Delicious, fun, social, and a true Clapham institution.

Brilliant food never fail to impress me. Quantity completely sufficient and tasty. Highly recommended.
This was my 3rd time eating at peppertree!!! Wonderful food, lovely service... will be back again and again and again 🍴🍹👌🏼
Excellent Food! Xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
I’ve driven, ridden or walked past this Clapham Common stalwart for years, but until now haven’t had a reason to visit. So it was with delight that I accepted the invitation to try the new spring menu at The Pepper Tree. The restaurant sits opposite the Common a short stroll from the tube and right by numerous bus routes, so is perfect for locals and visitors alike. It’s laid out with communal style tables which help to create a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. We settled ourselves just inside the restaurant, but by the window, in order that we could people-watch to our hearts’ content.
The Peppertree is a good local place to eat some Thai food. The prices are reasonable (for London anyway) and I've been here a few times before making a review. It has been a hit and miss for me as I've been here where the food wasn't great but the service always is and you never have to wait for a table :) *** must try the green curry fried rice *** #favourite
Good food, pleasant staff, reasonably priced.
Place is very close to Clapham Common, only thing is it is the common table seating arrangement so you will have to share a long drawn table with strangers, if you are ok with it - it's good Thai food.
But I was a little disappointed that all curries have shrimp late which leaves a vegetarian with no rice and curry options :( .. So I settled for Pad Thai and Stir fry - which were good. Quantity is more than enough for a single person - order cautiously
Before attending the Greece Mount Athos event in Clapham. I stopped by The Pepper Tree on the long stretch of road for a quick bite. The Pepper Tree has been popping up on my radar for a long time. With my ex-colleagues recommending it, and foodies from around London mentioning the place. Recently the place has been refurbished and is under new management. This place is made to be all squished together with long communal tables, are filled throughout the whole restaurant. At the top end the open kitchen with manic cooks.
Fresh from winning Time Out’s We Love London Award for Best Restaurant in Clapham, the Pepper Tree have decided to add breakfast to their successful and established repertoire. After undergoing renovation when they became part of the Eco restaurant group earlier this year, the Pepper Tree has re-opened with a modern design, complete with concrete canteen style dining tables.
Great food, and thoroughly impressed with the menu. We ordered the Pad Thai, chicken green curry, and Papaya salad. For dessert had the amazing yellow beancake. Must say it was quite authentic Thai, but next time must try the Tom Yum!
Only disappointment was the seating arrangement. Felt very school canteen and was hard to get cosy. Also noticed people ordering individual dishes, not the usual way to eat Thai, as we shared.
We popped along to Pepper Tree on a Friday evening after spending ages using the draw your search on Zomato and debating where to go. It was very busy but we managed to get a table straight away, unlike all the people who arrived after us who had to queue.
You're seated on communal tables which are pretty wide, and given the amount of conversation happening around you it's difficult to have a proper conversation.
Service, due to the amount of people there, could be quicker, but the food can't be faulted. We had a prawn pad Thai and the grilled chicken with sticky rice. The chicken had a gentle spice flavour and the rice was the stickiest I've ever seen!
Probably the best curry I have ever had. Lamb curry just fell apart it was so tender. Would definitely recommend on this alone. My wife did not think the pad thai was anything special though. Venue is small and canteen style and it was cold on the day we went. Stay away from the windows because they're quite drafty if you go on a cold day too.

London favourite. Have been many many times n will b one of the first places I head back to next time I return home. Seafood stir fry.. Always my choice!
It's a must if your in clapham for the day and looking for something quick, cheap and very very tasty. Pleasent staff, great food, relaxed atmosphere. Highly recommended. Enjoy!
Chicken Satay and Pad Thai Noodles with Prawns. The Pepper Tree is our top favourite restaurant even tho' it isn't on our doorstep. Always delicious food at affordable prices with really helpful staff and a great ambience. Our whole family love it and we would strongly recommend you give it a try!!
Exceptionally good ,at a great price. Apparrently they get there ingrediants from Thailand twice a week to ensure everything is fresh.

Amazing fast food, really great if you want something really cheap, fast and delicious
...over the years they have stuck to their aim: "To provide good quality, basic Thai food at reasonable prices"
Come here if : you want good value, authentic food and can cope with waiting for it. Batting on manfully in the face of boy flu let to a night of slight over consumption and a fight on two fronts against both drippy nose and incipient hangover. I needed a quick blast of chilli heat and went for an early lunch at The Pepper Tree. It's a simple and popular little Thai joint opposite Clapham Common tube station. Very pared down (almost unfinished) white walls, the long bench seating and communal tables are packed solid most evenings. The food isn't complex, but boy is it satisfying.
I knew it would be just a matter of time before my sorry arse ended up in the Pepper Tree for a quick lunch, it has now happened and surprisingly it wasn’t that bad. Meeting friends from Latin America for lunch at my new work location of Clapham Common and only having an hour to get some nosh, I gave them two choices. Fish and Chips @ the Fish Club, which being Friday I tried ever so hard to steer them to, but alas, these Latino’s were wanting some Asian spice, as a change. So The Pepper Tree it was, with its set lunch menu of £7.50p for two courses, it’s a bit of a bargain on the heavily congested lunchtime scene in Clapham Common. The Pepper Tree was booming and we had a short wait for a table to fit us three merry souls, which was fine as chitchat between friends always makes time go fast. By the time we were seated literally everyone else was getting ready to leave and go back to work. I hope it wasn’t us. The Thai style set menu is actually not bad value to be honest, with a choic
Located close to Clapham Common tube station, the Pepper Tree is quite a popular Thai restaurant by judging the queues outside of it. Inside, it is like a canteen with long tables and benches you share with other people. A little like at Wagamama. Not muc
In the latest Time Out listings The Pepper Tree was voted best restaurant in Clapham. With this in mind it would be remiss of me not to go and check it out.
From the outside this Thai restaurant doesn't look extraordinary but it is in a great location overlooking the southern end of Clapham Common. There is a cute seating area outside though, partitioned from the pavement with a low divider, nice for a cocktail or two I'm sure.
The staff were welcoming on arrival and we were quickly seated at our table. It is communal dining here, long tables and benches, reminiscent of street food traders in Thailand. The menu looks good but today I'm here to try the newly launched brunch menu. Think England meets Thailand and you get the idea.
Drinks first and I ordered strong tea and a freshly squeezed beetroot juice whilst my companion ordered a lychee mai tai. The juice was good but the star was the mai tai - delicious!
The choices for brunch can be found on most other menus, the twist here is that everything is spicier and more fragrant. The spicy sausages are made to a special Pepper Tree recipe by a local butcher, the four beans are spicy too taking the place of baked beans and as well as chilli you'll find lemongrass and kaffir lime showing up in lots of dishes.
I opted for the omelette with bacon, sausage and chutney. The chutney was superb, I wish there had been more, it added moisture to the dish too which I think was needed. My companion had the full English. Turns out it was too much for her and she couldn't finish all of it, needless to say the portion sizes were generous. This was also evident by other diners dishes coming out of the kitchen. The dishes all arrived not long after ordering, were hot and definetly filled a gap.
If you would like to try something more traditionally Thai go for the Congee. Think of it as a soupy porridge made with meat broth and served with pork balls, prawns and a poached egg. I had a small portion and reckon it tasted much better than it sounded, I actually quite liked it!
Our final dish was the rice pudding with fresh mango. It is cooked with coconut milk and came out suitably sticky and stomach-warming. As the pudding is not too sweet we would choose to forego the Greek yoghurt on top, to us it was a bit sour for the dish.
I found the ambience at The Pepper Tree to be relaxed and the décor was fun and vibrant. The staff were efficient and really seemed to want you to enjoy your experience here, nothing was too much trouble. Prices are average for breakfast and the food was just what I needed for a Saturday morning. I would like to try the evening menu next time, I have my eye on a big bowl of noodle soup.
I think our visit was summed up best by a kid sitting at the next table who said 'Mum, can we come here for breakfast every weekend?'
Enough said.
Dropped by here on a Sunday to get some brunch, we got here just after breakfast service had finished and their lunch service was another 20 min away. No matter we sat down anyway, ordered some drinks and had a good look at their menus. At first we were tempted to get several small plates to share but the Pork Ball and Spring Onion from the Big Bowl Soup Noodle section caught my friend's eyes so we decided to go for a main each with 2 starters.
we got the fish cake and prawn toast to start with. Actually we had asked for them to come together with the main so they were apologetic they bought the starters out way ahead of main, because that is totally fine with us. Both of these were perfectly adequate although my friend really liked the vinegary dipping sauce it came with. That noodle soup were pretty glorious, it had plenty of meat balls, wontons, spare ribs and flat rice noodles, and the pork & chicken broth had a great nourishing flavour. The other friend got the green curry with the side of rice, which came in a somewhat small portion I thought. I had the prawn pad thai after many recommendation for it online. My pad thai was average - it had a fairly good portion and fresh bean sprouts and crushed peanuts, but overall the noodles felt mushy and the prawns were overcooked.
There was pretty good service and friendly staff. The food came out quick and the atmosphere was clean and modern (with long benchs/tables). I would definitely recommend that noodle soup, it seems like the perfect homely dish for winter, while the rest of the food are adequate.
We were told this Thai restaurant had recently opened. It looked nice décor wise, and they had chopsticks on the table. I was told by a friend that people in Thailand don't use chopsticks?!!! This was after I had already started using them (lol... oh well. It still tasted good). I ordered the Chicken Pad Thai and it was great! Although when I went there for the third (yes third) time I tried the Prawn Pad Thai and I found it personally more delicious!
The service was always very friendly. There are quite some people during the times we came, but I don't blame them. It's a great place!
The only thing is: I would suggest NOT taking the coconut rice with a dish that has coconut inside it... as I did that on my second visit to this lovely restaurant, and I didn't like it as it was there was just too much coconut overload. Apart from that it's great! I totally recommend the Pad Thai dishes. Prices are pricey when on a budget, but after tasting the food it seems worth it.
Clapham High Street isn't always the most glamorous of locations, but at its southern foot sits the Pepper Tree, a rather unassuming Thai restaurant. The plain red exterior beholds a similarly simple inside, with Wagamama-style benches, crammed in to maximise space. However, don't be put off by the squeeze or occasional queue as the food is decent and reasonably priced, as well as healthily portioned. I went for the pad thai, the archetypal Thai benchmarking dish, and wasn't let down. It had strong, authentic flavours and a generous number of prawns hidden within it's noodle depths. Service is speedy too, so it's an all round efficient dining experience that won't let you down. Perhaps not as authentic as Balham's Paddyfield, and they allow BYO alcohol there, but service at the Pepper Tree is a little less hectic and the location is more suited to a pre-night out meal. Roll on a few beers on the High Street!
Cute little restaurant serving authentic Thai cuisine in the heart of Clapham Common.
Visited following an advise of a guy who claimed he’s going there for 20 years and never been disappointed.
Came with quite high expectations and left absolutely satisfied and happy.
Food is truly delicious, one of the best Thai in London hands down.
Special thanks to the waiter Alexa, incredibly friendly and made as feel so welcome, well done!
Highly recommended and definitely will be back very soon.
What a lovely place! Food is really nice😍and the staff is very kind. Quick service, very good quality. I ordered the red vegetable curry and the spring rolls, beautiful food.
Great Thai Restaurant in Clapham!
We were in Thailand over Christmas and have been waiting to find somewhere that replicates those flavours, and The Pepper Tree delivered!
We did, however, find the prawn toast was a little overcooked & it's mixed with chicken, which we found gave a different flavour.
Tom Yum soup is highly recommended!
Now I need to give a special shout out to the cocktails here because they taste SO good and strong!
Cocktail recommendations**
Ginger Martini
Tom Yum Siam
Lychee Mai Tai
I love the illustrations in the menu. However, there are a few mistypes!
Lovely restaurant with outdoor seating, too!
(Would recommend changing the lock on the ladies' toilet as it's very stiff and almost got stuck)
Overall, it's a great spot for a Thai lunch/dinner with amazing cocktails!
Would definitely go back 🧡
A Clapham institution. Good Thai and SE Asian dishes, with quick service. An extensive menu with lots of choice, and very tasty curries.
Good for pre- and post- cinema trips!
Long benches rather than individual tables, so be prepared to huddle up with other diners, esp later in the week.
Food was tasty and service was quick! I went for the Short Rib Panaeng which I would definitely recommend, as the flavours and spice were great. Decor and layout of restaurant is also nice
Good food , especially the stir fry selection friendly service and fun place. Tables and chairs are decent but can be improved. But will go there again. Plum wine was very good
Delicious food, good vibes, lovely staff. Nightly recommend the papaya salad :)
Affordable! Three of us shared three mains and two starters, with a bottle of wine and came to just over £23 (inc 12.5% service charge)
First time here tonight must say the service was very quick the food was amazing the owner made me feel very welcome she cane to ask how the food was very friendly woman my first time and won’t be the last definitely would recommend this place 25 years open !!! What a lovely atmosphere and staff were lovely
Great food. We went there at 10.30 and it closed at 11. They still let us to come in and we enjoyed out meal. Very good atmosphere and great service.
I wish I could give more than 5stars. Every visit is incredible. Lovely and attentive staff and delicious food for every one. Veggie, vegan, hot, soups noodles etc. Big shout out to Nina 😍
Lovely place!! Our server Alexa was brilliant, friendly and super helpful. Their set lunch menu is reasonably priced and has many options. Would come again
We had a gorgeous dinner while I was visiting friends in London. Alexa went above and beyond with her service. The food was amazing and all for good value.
It was a cold, wet evening and we were looking for someplace with hot, quick food and we luckily ended up at Pepper tree.
The seating is community tables style. I was hesitant that this would be uncomfortable but I was wrong! The seating allowed for a privacy and some friendly chatter with other diners.
The service was all right. Nothing too personal.
The food was just brilliant! So much flavor, so much spice, so much goodness!
We got the chicken red curry: soupy, punch-filled dish perfect for a cold night.
We also got the dry tawa Thai chilli chicken: Amazing!
Refreshing Jasmine tea and some interesting dessert made it a great dinner!
I highly recommend!
The food here is always good. I especially like the smoothie / juice drink specifically the 'alkaline green juice'.. perfect for a nice meal on a lazy Sunday afternoon. P.s. the wait time for the food can seem long especially if you are hungry but it is worth the wait!
Had only ever had takeaways which were incredible, but dining in made it so much better. Loved the food, the service and left very full!
