Had the most amazing evening at Surma last night, the staff are friendly and the food is out of this world 🙌🙌 would highly recommend this restaurant
Saturday was my second visit to Surma.

Classic 'British' Indian. Surma won't win any awards for innovative cuisine, though they did win the East Dulwich Forum best curry house award in 2007... ;-)
It's a fairly standard curry house. Nothing exceptional on the menu, good solid standard dishes prepared freshly and well. If anything they're light on the spicing, slightly too heavy on the oil on occasion. It's a go to after a few beers joint, and they do an excellent Sunday buffet. All you can eat for £6.95. It's not fine dining, but it fills a hole.

Not only is Surma the best curry on lordship lane, for the first time in my life I have fully understood why there is a 10% service charge.

Had Sunday buffet here twice. Really lovely food, was impressed, though vegetarian options could be better. No paneer in the buffet, though you can order it from the menu.
Loved the fish bhuna and the tandoori chicken especially. Delicious ice-cream. Lassi and Irish coffee excellent. Buffet good value so long as you're not vegetarian.
In the past 20 years, I don't think I've ever been there other than on Sunday for their buffet, but of the 3 remaining Indians that still offer a buffet, this one has always been our favourite. Dulwich Tandoori for a while was, but it's gone downhill in the past 5 years IMHO so Surma is back on top. I've yet to try Generally uniform food from the main serving trays. The vegetarian options often look like they need a good refresh and can be swimming in oil, but for the 8 quid, it's a fun night out when you're in the mood to gorge. I've yet to try Memsaab, the newest place, but I hear it's also good
We were a party of 14 who booked fairly last minute and the food and service could not have been better, everyone enjoyed themselves. Inexpensive and great vegetarian options and the side dishes were just as tasty as the main meals. Will go again.
Small curry house with a long-standing history in East Dulwich. The food is good and the staff are very friendly. The Sunday Buffet is really good value for money.
Been a customer for 40 years! Tried every curry shop in Lordship Lane (during their refit) and they were and are the best. Chicken Naga I recommend although I'm always tempted by the chicken tikka jalfrezi balti.
I can only review the naan as that is all I had but it was very tasty and very reasonably priced. The restaurant itself was like most curry houses, in a nice way.
Great meal. Food, as always, was first class. Salmon tikka starter followed by butter chicken tandoori for me and paneer tikka massala for the wife. Cool cobra or white wine to wash it down. Heaven
Amazing food! My favorite Indian restaurant/take away in London! I'd recommend the mangalore paneer! And the staff are very friendly too.
