Such nice staff and venue! Hip and friendly and laid back. Reclaimed furniture and nice interior. Good music always playing. Just wish they had a better range of food. They do have some things on toast or sandwiches but that's it.

Super cute cafe that serves up a great cup of coffee for a really decent price. The staff are lovely people who make you feel really welcome. I particularly liked getting a seed bomb to take home, on my way out! Well worth a visit!

The food was delicious, the coffee was superb, the prices were very reasonable, but most of all the staff were extremely pleasant, kind, generous and in a sincere, genuine way made us and everyone else in the café feel welcome and relaxed. The two younger girls and two late 30s men were excellent at their jobs and really personable and real. My Mum, my mate and I all agreed we will definitely be coming back.

By far, the BEST cafe in Hackney, bar none! The staff are all so genuinely friendly, which is something of a rarity these days. The food is sublime, as are the hot drinks. At the time of writing, Trew Era offers a lunchtime meal deal where one can purchase a toastie and a hot drink for just a fiver. Fresh ingredients are ALWAYS used and your food will be prepared and cooked right in front of you, so you know it's as fresh and clean as can be. The cafe also offers an extensive selection of vegan delicacies and can cater to (almost) any requirement if you ask. A fiver for lunch on a student budget may sound like quite a dent in the pocket, but rest assured that you will not be left feeling hungry afterwards. Kudos to Mr Brand on this wonderful - and mega-tasty! - venture.

Russell Brand has funded this cafe with the profits from his book, 'Revolution'. The staff are so lovely and the coffee was delicious! It was less than £2! There's some great initiatives in there to help the community e.g. you can help fund a local project and when I went, there were free flower seed bombs so people can plant them in a bare-looking area, brightening the environment. I loved this cafe and I will be back here often.

Laid back vibes, wonderfully warm welcome from all the staff - especially Georgia - and the owner too! Plus, a good-size portion of delicious & delightful scrambled eggs with spinach on toast. My first time, but not my last. Thank you to all at TREW ERA. Keep on keeping on.

A non-profit breakfast and coffee place that's vegetarian as well as being very vegan friendly. Seats are limited but portions are huge, so get in early if you want to try their yummy posh brands on toast.

the trew era cafe in hackney serves locally sourced, organic & vegetarian food. the vibe is cool and relaxed but feels homely at the same time. this cafe is owned by russell brand who saved the estate from being sold to developers who wanted to evict families and increase rent. the staff at the cafe are also former drug addicts. meals are priced around the £4 to £5 mark and coffee around £2 which makes it a great place to catch up for an easy brunch. we had the roasted vegetables on a bed of sweet potato mash and an aubergine, spinach, feta & mint toastie.

Ahhh majesty. Many were the nights where your late father and I would roam the stone corridors of Balmoral estate, our night gowns flailing around in the cool pale glow of the moonlight, where would spot a lowly cur, a hound of the night majesty, then your late father majesty, gripping the hound by the hind quarters would produce from his breast pocket an emery board, and pinching it between forefinger and thumb would begin to... Lovely lovely little cafe 5 sy are, a range of options, travelled all the way from Australia to visit and was worth it!
