This past spring, my dad, brother, brother-in-law and I got away to London for a mancation to see some football games and take in the city. It was my brother's first time visiting London and the rest of us were ready to break him into the British pub scene. Our hotel was near Regent's Park and we discovered The Ship pretty much by fate, meaning it was the closest pub that was open at the time. The obvious nautical theme aside, The Ship is a very traditional pub with an old wood bar and shiny brass knobs everywhere. It appeared to be owned by an older couple and a young girl was also working at the bar, possibly the granddaughter? All were very nice and didn't mind that we were the token dumb Americans at the bar. I'll always remember The Ship because I'm pretty sure we single handedly introduced a drink that nobody in the ENTIRE bar had ever heard of: the Irish Car Bomb. This perplexed me to no end. Isn't Ireland, like, 10 minutes from there? The young bartender and I had a 10 minute exchange that went something like this: Me: OK, first you have to pour a shot with half Bailey's and half Jameson, then you pour... Barmaid: (interrupting) Wait, what? In the same glass?? (attempts to pour two separate shots) Me: No, pour those babies into the same crib. This is gonna be good, TRUST ME. Barmaid: Ummmm...(looking at granddad for approval)..OK...This looks disgusting. Me: Oh, and you're gonna do one with us, so make one more. Barmaid: Ewwww! No way. Me: Just do it, I swear you're gonna freak, it's so good. (The Guinness is poured. Much haggling, describing, hand gesturing ensues.) Me: So?? Barmaid: OMG, that was actually delicious! Did you just make that up? Me: (say it, say it!) ...Yes I did. I won't even describe how hard it was for them to figure out what to charge us. By that time I'm pretty sure they just wanted us to leave.

We stopped in for a quick afternoon drink. There was one other person in there. The bartender was nice. The place is comfortable. The toilet is upstairs by a beautiful room that you can rent out. We didn't eat anything but I seem to remember there was thai food on the menu.

Good beer, good tunes, great bar staff and a sense of welcoming bonhomie that's lacking in so many Zone 1 pubs. I would go out of my way to have a pint at this place, and you should too.

Really enjoyed it here. Proper old school. Friendly service. Pints were nice. It's a very comfy pub with tv screens showing sport. Might not be everyone's cup of tea but I really liked it. We will be back 🙂

A super little pub tucked away north of Oxford street. Celebrating all things brass, from navigation lights to bedpans with much in between. Fine attentive service and a fun place to have a drink. Vietnamese food on offer as a change from more usual pub fayre. An enjoyable place to spend a bit of time pondering the world.

The Ship is a good real pub on New Cavendish Street. Awesome collection of brassware and some nautical themed decorations. Decent beers. Two tvs where can watch a match or two. No food (hence 1*) but nice peanuts. It's a great place to go if you just want some down time. Not open at the weekend. It feels like it has no heating so it's nippy in the winter - I could be wrong but a real tick on the environmental effort. Nice friendly staff and well kept beer. There is a function room upstairs. There is outside space on the pavement with nice brass leaning bars for glasses.

🚇 Warren Street ❤️ A truly unique London pub. . On my travels around London I am always on the lookout for pubs that have something different, something unique and preferably an old school London pub experience. The Ship is one such pub that ticks all those boxes. . The pub was built in 1887 and has been run by the same family for the past 60 years. I love the architecture of this pub and especially the Bass Lamps and Wenlock Brewery signs above the front door. The decor here is quintessential 80’s with red carpet, red velour banquette seating and small copper topped circular tables. The star of the show is the nautical memorabilia and breweriana that adorns every available wall space. There are ships wheels, Bass and Wenlock signs and mirrors, plus loads of brass bric a brac everywhere. The ambiance is low lit which makes for a very atmospheric setting. . The Ship is a fantastic traditional pub experience and comes highly recommended. This pub doesn’t open on weekends anymore, so plan ahead if you’re going to visit. Fitzrovia is a great place for visiting pubs and this boozer is up there with the best of them, a truly unique London pub. . ℹ️ Original visit 25.08.17

This place has a great cosy traditional atmosphere with plenty to look at on the walls. It's a little tucked away from the Soho madness, I went once on a friday at 9:30 and they said they had closed due to too few people! I went back needing to escape crowds on a Wednesday and it was very busy - a game was on but we still found a spot. It's a great option if you're sick of battling through crowds and they could do with your custom more than more obvious pubs. The kiwi owner is super friendly too. Ps. Has a decent size upstairs too which is equally as vibey.

Cute place- I live two doors down from the pub and it is a popular weekday watering hole. The owner has an incredible memory, like an elephant really, so even though I hardly go there for a drink (on a diet) he always treats me like a regular, even chats to me when we see each-other on the corner. Nice location, nice bar keep, and there's something about the ambiance which makes you feel super comfortable.

Lovely old school pub tucked away in the heart of town, a stones throw from the BT Tower. The Manager and his staff were lovely and the selection, and price, of drinks was all you could ask of from a London pub.

Cracking pub. Friendly staff, the decor is sublime, and the beer tastes good. Real community atmosphere. One of those places that you go in for a quick pint then end up whiling away the night chatting to the folks on the next table. Well worth a visit if you're in the area.

Brass and copper everywhere. Fantastic quirky pub with a local pub feel to it. Friendly staff, lots of brewery and maritime related artifacts on the walls and ceiling. A function room is available and you can bring your own food food too. I would say average drinks selection but a relaxed place to be at.

Lovely traditional pub tucked out of the way of the tourist area. A great place for a lunch time drink. Not to busy, very comfortable, good music but not to loud and I love the nautical theme. I will definitely be coming back frequently.
