This was a lovely place to stop in to have a bit of lunch. I sat further back in the pub where there were comfortable booths and I must have been there early, as I was one of the only people there other than the staff.
I had half a pint of Session Ale on the recommendation of the manager. It paired rather nicely with the Devonshire plant burger that I had for lunch.
The burger comes with cheese, ale onions, shredded lettuce and pickles with chips (fries) on the side. It was gorgeously filthy and messy to eat as any truly good burger should be! The chips were excellent and crispy and fresh as well.
The interior of the pub is relaxing and comfortable and quite lovely without feeling too overly fussy or grand. It’s just the right kind of place to have a good meal and a pint. The booth I sat at would be ideal for an intimate meal or a date while there were also much larger tables available that would be great for get togethers with friends and family. The service was quick, friendly, and efficient and my food came out quickly and was hot and fresh.
I hope you’ll give them a try and have an equally lovely time.

Lashings of gravy with the roasts is always a good thing. Had some very good service from a super friendly team and the food was delicious. The dog Sunday roast is such a cute idea too.
All complimented with an excellent wine list.
Th setting is a modern gastronomic vibe and the food is amazing! Plus it’s really convenient because you can order food & drinks from their app!
It’s a dog friendly pub and there is lots of space in the back for large groups of friends and family to hang out.
I went for a chicken Katsu burger and their sticky toffee pudding
A group of 10 of us visited here to watch the World Cup final and then have Sunday lunch. The staff were incredibly accommodating and friendly. They moved us to a nicer table at the back of the pub for our Sunday lunch without us even asking. The lunch was excellent - a generous portion of beef/chicken and the accompaniments were great too. There is a nice beer garden at the back that looked lovely as well. Will definitely be back for food and drink, and would recommend to anyone in the area!
Came in here for lunch after having walked past a number of times. Was surprised by how big the place is but still feels warm and inviting! Good range of vegan/vegetarian options. My friend had the plant burger and I had the fish chips. Both were great and the service was excellent. Shout out to Nick on the bar for the cocktails!
A really friendly and welcoming local
South London pub. Managed to move things around to fit in a group of 12 at short notice despite being busy. Food was excellent. Would recommend.
This was my first time at this pub. Looks can be very misleading. From the outside it looks like a quiet pub but once you walk in it opens up to this beautifully big room which leads onto a pub garden.
We sat out the front so I cannot tell you how the garden was, also did not order food but I did look at the menu and it looks pretty decent.
The bar staff were very friendly and welcoming which is what you want when you go for a drink.
I will definitely be going back at some point
Had a lovely time here on Sunday; lovely Sunday Roast, definitely one of the best in the area :)
Lovely atmosphere, particularly cute beer garden space.
All the staff were very friendly and attentive, service by Joe W was particularly excellent.
Brought lots of my friends to this pub and will always re-visit for a guaranteed enjoyable evening.
Went with a friend for lunch on Friday. The place is deceptive with a large bar at the front, an even bigger seating area to the rear and a garden out back. It’s well presented and decorated. We were there at 12:30 and the only people seated at the rear, with just one table occupied in the front bar and a few people in the garden - so surprisingly quiet. The food menu is varied, it’s tasty and a good portion size. We spent £70 for two starters, two mains, two and a half pints and a soft drink. Would definitely go back.
The Devonshire on Balham High street is a delight. A genuine TARDIS of a pub, it goes on and on. Great beers both cask and keg as we should expect from the Young's stable. There is a great garden out back as well as seating out front. Inside is gorgeous with etched glass panels, glass ceilings (skylights really but lovely) a joyful place for a drink!
I do like this pub. And will go back. But when I can afford it! £60 for three burgers and chips is not a cheap night out. Good as they were and excellent as the various seating areas are by the time you've added a couple of beers each you've topped £100! I do like the place, understand they face rising costs, but for me it's now in the realm of special occasion than regular haunt.
Nice party pub, perfect to get together with friends. The burgers from their burger shack are outstanding. Only you have to order through an app and waiting time for drinks was long.
Walking past you might not guess just how popular and huge this pub is… especially as you go deeper into the cavernous space (as you can see the front section was deserted on my mid-week visit, but the back and amazing beer garden was super lively).
It’s definitely the kind of pub you can spend the whole evening catching up with friends and a top recommendation in the area.
If you found my review or photos interesting please leave a quick thumbs up 👍 Thank you!
Our athletic club held a reunion in a private section of the pub and we had a great time. Troy and his team looked after us really well, the food was excellent and we couldn't have wished for a better experience.
Thanks again
When pondering where to go for food around the Balham area we stumbled upon the Devonshire. We loved the atmosphere of the garden and our server, Joe W, excellently recommended your Sunday Roast, which he described in such detail. We went with that option and couldn’t have enjoyed it more. Having Joe as our server was like having an extra family member at the table, he was so kind and incredibly funny. Will be coming back with the family very soon and we hope Joe will be there too.
Lovely pub, great atmosphere - perfect for a nice pub dinner. Eliza at the bar was a great server - very friendly and helpful! Nick who was serving our food was also great ! Good experience all round
Good food and drinks in one of London's longest pub (it seems to go on for ever, through the front bar, to the big dining room at the back, and finally to a big beer garden.)
Very friendly staff, taking drink orders as they walk around the tables, and good food too.
Understandably very popular in the summer!
