Bohemian Japanese Coffee Shop. This is how I'd imagine a bohemian Japanese coffee shop to feel like in Japan.
I can just imagine beatniks reading poetry to an audience here.
The large open space that features live off the wall Japanese musical acts to a willing Dalston audience.
Nice coffee as well.

Cafe OTO is in the heart of Dalston, really easy to access and to find. It is nice to sit there, inside and outside, the cafe is quite huge. Tables have different sizes, you can choose your table according to the purpose of your visit. Small tables to have a very nice cup of fresh mint tea with a friend and big tables when you come to study.

Some of the staff is really nice, even though it is not true for all of them, but one thing has to be clear: the service is good anyway.

I usually go to have a cup of tea, I tend to have a different one when I go there. They have delicious cake, however I do not have them all the time as they are a bit pricy, but I have to point out that it is fair.

The cafe is also a nice place to study as it is not noisy but there is some background noise, which always helps me to concentrate.

On the evening they close quite early to host some great music events, so it is worth it!

Nice cafe with some seats outside for sunny days. We had the cheese toastie, which was fine, but the onions they served with it were genuinely the best part of it! The coffee was good - both espresso and iced latte were nice. Inside was quite big with lots of space and tables.

My favourite spot in London. The atmosphere during life performances is very cozy, everyone can find little space for themselves if it’s standing, sitting on chairs, benches, floor. You will always meet someone interesting, unique. On the day the space is welcoming with coffee and small food menu and on the evenings you can enjoy music with drinks. Good place to gather ideas, read, work, connect. The interior is ugly-beautiful, not pretentious. The staff is professional but friendly.

A wonderful venue with a continuing programme of innovative and inspiring music featuring artists from around the globe. Exploratory and ever challenging in the best possible way! Great cafe during the day with a nice atmosphere and bar in the evening. Fabulously well stocked bookshop and records and vinyl add to the magic of this place! Long may it prosper!

Excellent venue for offbeat music with reasonable drinks. Do show up early to guarantee the seat else you’ll be standing room during a blast-off session

This place offers a huge variety of gigs from all around the world, it is quite impressive. The vibe there is so nice, I really recommend this place for any alternative music fans (or just music fans in general!) that wanna see special musicians. The price of the drink are more than okay, and you can bring your own food as they don’t do any kind of food. They also sell some posters, records and zines (but beware, they are unfortunately very very expensive). I live this place for the quality of the music and I think it is, in my experience, one of the best places in London to listen to alternative/underground music.

Home of avant-garde and experimental music in London. It is a cosy atmosphere. Doors normally open at 7:30. Make sure you arrive early if you want a seat.

I went to a gig on Saturday night and really love the atmosphere, not many small venues for intimate gigs left around Hackney that are welcoming. The bar staff were friendly.

Really lovely space, with some great acts etc. Playing there. Tasty ipa, very nice balanced sound system. Only drawback is it's a little pricey, but not more than i would expect at this sort of venue. Will certainly be returning here.

Good and very tasty vegetarian toasties and a very good soup. Often find vegetarian food a bit unimaginative, but not here!

Quite small venue which feels airy with large front windows looking out onto Ashwin Street (and very close to the two Dalston Overground stations). Hosts a commendable eclectic range of music during evenings. Entry prices reasonable. Wooden seating but sightlines at least as good just standing at the back. Reasonable keg beers served in 2/3 pint measures (Kernel, Tiny Rebel, etc). Coffees, cakes, etc also available in the evening but during the daytime the venue works as a cafe selling Persian food - have not visited during the daytime but the food listings look good. Also sells records, CDs, etc.

A true hidden gem in London. Experimental music (sometimes with film) in an intimate space with candle light. The bar serves some strong Belgian ales as well. Speakers and setup are great. Do give a visit if you are into active listening and have an open mind for music.
