Just got home from a impromptu dinner plan with my aunt. Ordered the Bruschetta to share, Risotto for main and the recommended dessert, not exactly sure what it was called but it was a orange flavoured cake served with cream cheese and orange zest. Not a big fan of orange in my desserts but this one got me thinking! Great service, quiet and quaint perfect for a calm night out!

Very enjoyable. Had lunch at a Cena with my wife and parents on Saturady, the service was absolutely fine, but there were only 4/5 tables occupied. Maybe everyone books the Sunday Lunch? Between us we had risotto, cauliflower, bruscetta, sea bass, stuffed pork, gnocci plus dessert. two bottles of wine, coffees and a glass of wine to go with my cheese, not one word of complaint from any of us. £200 before the tip.

Great food. I dine at Acena about once a month with my kids and we just love it. Food is excellent, staff friendly and if i would let them, my kids would dine on the homemade foccacia bread alone!

It's no question that A Cena is considered to be one of the best restaurants in the borough of Richmond, consistently serving rustic Italian food in a barely luminate setting. What is isn't however, is a traditional Italian haunt. You won't find the menu overflowing with typical pasta classics and a bit of steak on the side. It's more the opposite - plenty of quality produce with a bit of pasta on the side. I actually recall a service once having no pasta items on the menu at all, apart from a Risotto, wait... that's not even pasta. I rest my case. Anyway, to me the food is similar in style to that of Hammersmith's River Cafe, minus the extraordinary riverside location and fabulously bright dining ambience (it is quite dark in A Cena but I think this adds to its own feel).

I started, as usual, with the Parmesan fritters, I really need to get a life, I order this every time I go there but they are great and I am usually starving (carbohydrate gremlins). The Chic geek opted for asparagus served with parmesan and egg. My parmersan fritters were very nice, a little undercooked (they were doughy) but have a nice cheesey flavour, a slightly crunchy exterior and a creamy dressing, yum. With the asparagus and egg I guess the pic says it all really. The presentation of the egg was sloppy, and served with a small sprinkle of parmesan. The asparagus surprisingly didn't really have much flavour and was served firm. Jury's still out on that dish.
For mains, I had a pork cutlet (this thing was huge) served with smoked baby aubergine, and the Chic Geek opted for the duck and potatoes. I feel this is where A Cena really shine and have the River Cafe style coming in. Although the duck serving was somewhat smaller than the serving of pork, protein wise, everything with the mains was perfectly executed cooking wise. Listen, when duck is cooked really well and I mean really well, its flavour can truly be savoured. The texture of meat itself is quite dense and duck has plenty of good fat, which means flavour so when its cooked right, its all there. With A Cena the duck came out pink, moist and the fat rendered perfectly, it had a bit of peppery spice to it and just on its own it was 10/10, absolutely delicious.

Note: I was only offered 'just' enough duck from the Chic Geek's plate to make this observation, a distraction that took the force of 1000 oxen to stop me stealing more! But not to worry, I refocussed on my own dish of Pork Cutlet. It was thick, satisfyingly meaty with a definite barbecue and aniseed flavoured flair. The baby aubergine were sweet but also smokey, and combined with the barbecue smokiness already with the pork, the aubergine would have been just fine natural, to offset the barbecue. Overall, another very hearty flavour filled dish.

For desserts we had the cheeky dough-nuts and panna cotta each paired with a dessert wine. Hand's down the best panna cotta around, and a must try with the paired wine. The dough-nuts were delicate, crunchy outside and soft inside, not over blitzed with cinnamon. You can't really beat these guilty pleasures. The dessert wine served with the dough-nuts was totally overpowered by the sugar, maybe a Muscato may have paired better.
The service at A Cena is attentive, not intrusive and always at hand and always pleasant.

A Cena consistently serve high quality of food, with perfectly executed mains and desserts, the service is excellent and this is why they are one of the best in the borough.

A Cena hosted our post wedding reception and went above and beyond to make it the perfect afternoon. Jade and her front of house team were amazing - they set the tables up beautifully and were so happy and attentive throughout service. The food was equally as fabulous too, with our guests still talking about the selection of starters and gorgeous Tiramisu desert! The perfect meal.

My Italian friend recommendation. Most of the food are very tasty. Main was salty for us, but still enjoyed the flavor. Sorbet was lovely. Hope they will have chocolate dessert in future. Good cost performance. We will return.

We went on a Tuesday evening, so it was quite quiet, but we had a lovely evening. The food was delicious and very reasonably priced (especially for Richmond). We all particularly enjoyed our starters (burrata and beetroot) and our pasta mains. There was a good number of options, so there would be something for everyone. The ingredients seemed very fresh and classic of Italian cooking. The waitress was friendly and also knew exactly when to come to the table or leave us be, which was perfect. I'd definitely recommend popping in, especially for their lunch menu deal.

First time here at the insistence of my wife. Brought Darcie or dog for lunch and received the warmest welcome from the staff. Excellent food from Tom the owner, who came and said hello to our dog. Will be visiting again for sure.

This is probably some of the best food I've ever had, the fish and seafood are ridicously fresh. The skate wing might have been the most interesting meal I've ever tried and the service was really friendly aswell but my portion of linguine was ridicously small and the portion of fish by itself really needed an accompniment to balance it out since the flavours were so strong.

Service was excellent and very attentive. Ambience and decor great as well. Entrees were great (Had the Risotto and Linguini). Steak was okay (Butter infused with Pesto was not my jam... Beef was great quality).

Lovely setting with good food that is of home standards. Children run around freely which for some is not wanted as you may be enjoying a child free day. Pretentious names for dishes, for example, I ordered the tagliatelle with beef. This turned out to be good old Spaghetti bolognese. The steak ordered was very salty. The waitress did offer to change it but we were all too far into our meals. Her service was very much appreciated. Great attention to customer satisfaction and service.

The pasta dishes we ordered were nice but the main and the desserts were disappointing for the reputation of the restaurant. We ordered sea bass for main and we had stone bass at the end, no one told us we had to ask what type of fish that was. The desserts were very simple - good tasting food overall but didn’t meet my expectations.

Enjoyed the lunch time express menu. Great and speedy service, high quality ingredients and authentic dishes at a fair price. Recommend it sit near the window.

Superb, ingredient-focused food with professional, quality service! We go here on a regular basis. The unassuming location and interior make it a great spot for enjoying a very high quality food without any pretentiousness or fuss. Their vegetarian dishes are given as much thought and attention as their meat-based options (oyster mushroom dish is AMAZING). And their craft cocktails are ideal - with just the right balance of bitter, sweet, and bite. Menu prices definitely match the quality of ingredients and preparation. Never feel over charged and underwhelmed here like many at other ‘foodie’ restaurants that over prepare their dishes. A wonderful gem right next to Richmond bridge!

A gorgeous, warm, vibrant, romantic, welcoming, charming restaurant. I visited on Saturday 29th October 2022 for lunch, for two. The menu appeals from top to bottom, the service is friendly, attentive and what really appealed was the recommendation for a wine so perfect for lunch, there was no way I'd have chosen so well. Overall, this is a fabulous place for lunch and I reckon even better for dinner......which I'm looking forward to finding out :)

Excellent neighbourhood Italian, with elevated high quality dishes. Attentive service and a lovely ambience. Pricing matches the quality. We ate on a Tuesday evening, which can be a slow night for restaurants, but the place had a convivial, warm buzz. Will return and recommend.
