Good place, right of the bat in the middle of Tooting you will find the famous Saravanaa Bhavan. Prices are little high I think there are set as standard across their restaurants in London.
Went for a masala dosa, sweet lassi and tea came to about £10.75 not bad. Food service was extremely fast and restaurant was clean and tidy, pleasent expreience overall.
After a bit of shopping at Tooting Market what better pick me up than to go to the Saravanaa Bhavan outlet nearby for a delicious meal such as this delicious Dahl Makhni with Basmati Rice
The best dosa I have had in london, saravana never upsets me. They are very close to that Indian taste. The service was really fast and staff was very friendly, but they are really busy during the peak lunch and dinner time, so dont forget to go early or book it in advance :)
Quick service. Excellent food. The dosa idli vada is. A must try. My husband loved the chola Bhatura. Will defi visit again and a must for families
An amazing place to have crispy dosas filled with spicy potato mix. A traditional Indian breakfast which is pocket friendly and filling as well
This outlet almost lives up to the name of the renowned Tamil Nadu chain although the filter coffee did have a slight cappuccino-ish taste to it. Special mention to the chilli panneer that would make you go for seconds and thirds
Nice south indian food. Staffs need to get adjust with the customers satisfaction. But 1 guy may be a cashier who is really kind and good in taking care of each customer. Food is add usual superb
I love this place. Any south indian food craving can be satisfied here. Love their dosa and filter coffee. Service is amazing. Always have enjoyed a hearty meal. Mostly crowded but generally get a seat within 15 minutes.
Nothing quite competes with the amazing food in India, but for me this is the closest. Most restaurants in tooting offer a bit more than your average Kormas and Madrass but this place is by far my favourite.
Never had Indian for breakfast? The chole bhatura is a must try
The Curry Leg
22 curry restaurants down. You would think we've seen it all. But hot on the heels of our first CURRYBOND buffet comes our first all vegetarian curry place, Saravanaa Bhavan. Somewhat delayed in the CURRYBOND running order after some mild trepidation about an evening without both beer and meat. However, it's time has come, and we've come prepared with our very own CURRYBOND (almost) vegetarian, Di to raise the spirits of the meat loving die hards amongst us.
Saravanaa Bhavan, is nestled nicely among the classics of the CURRYBOND corridor on Tooting High Street. Adorned with a white and red neon sign that certainly draws the eye, as well as an impressive list of other countries you can find similar fare, from USA to UAE, Kuwait to Qatar. Inside, it's fairly standard low key furnishings with bright lights and metal trays overflowing with veggie curry goodness. It's busy when we arrive and busy when we leave maintaining a nice hum of atmosphere throughout.
Venue Score - 7.5/10.
We've got a solid turnout this time with most of the CURRYBOND regulars back on board. The menu is extensive and somewhat overwhelming...The inevitable curry greed kicks in and we proceed to order far too much food starting with some tasty sounding starters, Devilled Potato, Samosa, Chana Batura, Cocktail Idl, Masala Dosa, Paneer 65 and Onion Bhajis.
Everything emerges extremely promptly but nonetheless everything tastes fresh straight out of the kitchen. The Chana Batura is spiced chickpeas accompanied by a mega puri which could have enveloped a small child! The cocktail Idls come first after a recommendation from our waiter and are excellent bite sized crunchy balls with a variety of chutneys to dip along with. My dosa is suitably giant, crispy and filled with tasty veg masala goodness. A lovely start then, for the most part...One of the lessons learnt from the curry journey has been South India is certainly not the home of the onion bhaji...Bhaji Score 2/10.
It's not long before our mains emerge, in fact the prompt delivery starts to cause us some serious table space issues with metal trays quickly stacking up. After some stacking logistics we tuck to the main attractions. Mushroom Rogan Josh, Paneer Jalfrezi, Vegetable Butter Masala, Vegetable Jalfrezi and a full Indian meal presented in a lovely Thali tray with individual pots of intrigue. It is without exception, delicious. South India is clearly veggie Valhalla. The curries are deep, creamy and moorish, the rice is light, fluffy and fragrant and the breads and warm and crisp. My set meal gives me soup, curry, pickles, chutneys, rice, bread and then sweets! Our only regret is finishing most of the starters leaving limited capacity for the main courses.
Food Score - 8.5/10.
With piles of curry trays and an embarrassing amount of leftovers we call for the bill. Without meat or alcohol to jack up the price we get a solid valued bill of £94.60 which comes in at £15.76/CURRYBONDer.
Value Score - 7.7/10.
So, just when you thought you've done it all, Tooting pops up with yet another curry gem. If veggie's your thing, look no further than Saravanaa Bhavan, which makes a late dart for the top of the CURRYBOND leaderboard. If we'd had a few less CURRYBOND carnivores it might have just made it...
Overall Score - 8.2/10
Being from chennai , Saravana Bhavan is as close to home as it can get in the UK when it comes to quick , quality South Indian food.
I am a regular here and on the weekends expect a small waiting time of fifteen to twenty minutes ..... The food quality is pretty good and similar to the chains in India..... The service though is good on most occasions except for one single server . The size of the place is small and hence weekends waiting time is expected . They have a basement which rarely is open for service ....
Please don't have North Indian food here... This place is a proper South Indian outlet...

Great south Indian food at very reasonable prices. The quality is so good you couldn't tell if you were in London or Chennai. The service is very friendly, and the place is always busy. Hands down best paneer dosa ever, and the filter coffee is a must try.
I landed here after a hectic day. The place is not fancy but the South Indian food is pretty good. They give you three different sauces with the dosa and I really like their sauces. I would totally recommend this place..
Started the first day of the new year 2015 with a grand Indian dinner.
I would highly recommend ordering the Paneer chilly. It will really take you back to that Indian taste of chinese food that we always crave for!
Gujarati thali and chole that it's were the highlight of the meal.
Was surprised with how busy the place was on the 1st day of the year.
A really authentic south Indian restaurant that really transports you there. The food is cheap but really good. This chain is particularly popular with my Indian friends so you know it's good. However it's not very fancy, the crockery in particular.
Visited Saravana Bhavan in Tooting with family last night. Food was very good, they follow certain standards which is why the quality of food is good. The dosa, chutneys and sambar were delicious as usual but it’s the service at this place that stands out compared to the Eastham Saravana Bhavan. I was quite pleased with the service, they kept coming to your table to find out if everything was okay. I would give 4/5 for Ambiance and cleanliness and 6/5 for service.
Very good South Indian food - however the service could have been a bit more attentive. Very good value for money though
One of the best vegetarian restaurant in upper tooting high street. All time my favourite food is Paper Roast Masala with stuffing potatoes along varieties of chutney and sambar are so tasty. Staff are very attentive and super nice atmosphere, price is reasonable. I will go again.
One of India's too restaurant chain. As expected, the quality and quantity of food is great, excellent service and friendly staff who works real quick at busy times. Might have to wait for seating and food during rush hours (as expected from any busy restaurant). Highly recommended, must visit for authentic south indian style food.
Wonderful tasty vegetarian food. Lots of choice on the menu and everything is delicious. What more can I say, just go there!
A bit small and conjusted. South Indian food is good. But we first ordered Manchurian and noodles which wasn't good at all and was expensive as well. If you go to a south Indian restaurant better order south Indian food. I guess they have authentic south Indian food.
One of my go to restaurants with a Jain menu (I’m veg and don’t eat alliums)! Service is also fantastic - you won’t be getting chatty servers, but you’ll surely have people serving you with bright smiles. I always leave this place feeling satisfied and happy!
One of the few options available for authentic South Indian vegetarian. It’s always busy so make sure you consider atleast 15 minutes of waiting time prior to getting your table. Overall great food and great service.
Food was super tasty! We ordered medhu vada, samosas, chilli paneer, onion tomato chilli uttapam, South Indian thaali! Everything was on point and portions are great!
Their sweet lassi and mango lassi were excellent!
Highly recommend it!
Small restaurant with a nice, homely atmosphere and simple yet authentic serving dishes. The food is good and the menu has a plethora of choice for vegans and vegetarians. Service was fast and friendly. Overall, whilst I wouldn't crave the food, I would come back as a great veggie option.
Not a fancy restaurant, but some of the best Indian food I have eaten in London.
The veg Thali was outstanding, with subtle and different flavours in each dish - topped off with the obligatory sweet.
The dosa was full of flavour, and filled the entire plate.
You won't be hungry after visiting.
It's South Indian restaurant. Like Sravana Bhavan in India, you can get the various types of breakfast items, thaali (full meals), roti/breads etc. It's not exactly the same taste but, it almost close to what we get in India. I love the taste when comparatively in London.
This is one of the best South Indian vegetarian restaurant in London no doubt. I had a paper masala dosa . It was absolutely amazing. Architha served me, and her service was really great. Will definitely come back again... Good luck
Foods is delicious as always. Good value for the money. Large portions of food served always. Specialist in Dosa varieties. Very friendly staff with good hygiene maintained all throughout . Food is prepared in a open kitchen & served very fast. Great to see e-menus introduced to all its customers in which makes ordering much quicker. Nice to see the standard quality & reputation of its worldwide recognised name maintained since its opening here in Tooting.
