our recent trip to london saw us checking out plenty of cafes in the hackney and shoreditch area in east london… after all, we had to make up for lost time after 2 weeks of italian breakfasts with no eggs! the trendy area is full of hipsters, musos + plenty of expats… it felt like every couple of people we were bumping into fellow-aussies or new zealanders. and thankfully, it seems as if our down-under obsession with good coffee + brunch has infiltrated this funky part of london-town!

Well Street Kitchen may be considered to be the "hispter" cafe; the alternative to the greasy spoon cafe that is situated on the corner of Well Street and Morning Lane. Lunch and Brunch is the name of the game; WSK also serve cakes and sell products by independent food/drink manufacturers.

On my last visit I had the DIY breakfast which consisted of sourdough bread, bacon, sausage, mixed mushrooms and beans; I also had a freshly squeezed orange juice. I really enjoyed my meal. It is affordable enough for me to indulge in a lazy breakfast/brunch once in a while......

WSK is a nice friendly addition to Well Street; though I think it's more likely to attract the new/gentrified locals as opposed to the more established locals (I've lived in East London my entire life and have seen different types of establishments attract different folks). WSK is quite small so it can feel a bit claustrophobic. The cafe can get extremely busy, especially on the weekends. I've actually walked out without ordering on one occasion because it was so packed. I recommend visiting outside of peak times (10am-1pm over the weekends); you might actually find it more pleasurable.

Well Street has been calling out for a decent cafe for a long time and thank goodness that Well Street Kitchen opened. The coffee is excellent - well at least the flat whites - who drinks anything else these days anyway! A nice selection of fresh pastries and an ever changing brunch/lunch menu. If you're in the neighbourhood, drop by but be warned they get busy on the weekends.

Delicious!! Such a nice place, the staff is so so friendly and we were dying over the “Med eggs” ❤️❤️ Chai latte with an espresso shot also highly recommended. We’ll be back 🤗

Juat wanted to update my review, we have been back a few more times since writing my initial review. The people here so friendly, we brought our dog in and they gave him a cut up slice of bacon. It was very sweet and really appreciated. Great little place, popped in for breakfast and a coffee on a stroll about the area. Delicious food and a great coffee. We had the med and big breakfasts, both were great. Really cute space, with friendly quick staff. And dogs are allowed!

We stumbled on this quaint local cafe while we were in the area and the Mediterranean dish did not disappoint! In fact, we even claimed it was one of the best brunch plates we had. The service was excellent and fast, dogs are also welcome! They have an outdoor and indoor seating area, although the indoor area is quite tight and can get noisy. Will return!

Been my local cafe for 3 years. Always made me feel like home! The best breakfast in hackney. A must visit. Great people who work here always take care of you! I don’t eat eggs or meat so the chefs made me the Menemen with hash browns instead. Too sad to leave but everyone should try it and you’ll never go back.

Went to Wells Kitchen for breakfast. I had a big English breakfast. My wife had a version of avocado toast. Everything was very good, in fact, my wife said this was the best avocado toast she had ever had. My eggs were we cooked perfectly. The bacon and sausage were very good. I didn't care much for the beans, but that was just my personal preference. Service was very good and all the staff was friendly.

Great brunch/breakfast in Hackney. Loads of options and everything tasted fresh and well sourced. Went on a bank holiday Monday however and it took over 1.5 hour for our food to arrive…

5/5 best brunch I've had in a while today. Home made beans, home made hash browns, really stepping up this humble dish. Coffee was also delicious, definitely will become a regular spot for our weekend brunch!

This place is a little slice of continental cafe bliss in Hackney. First off the coffee was amazing and served with a warm smile. I ordered the vegan breakfast with fresh sourdough from a local bakery, which came with cherry tomatoes that were plump and juicy. The hash browns were apparently prepared and cooked fresh that day and I’d well believe it. We were also given complimentary chips as we were there ordering rounds of coffee so long lmao. The owner chatted to us and even told us about the history of the cafe and surrounding area. Cannot wait to go back.

We had a wonderful family breakfast at Well Street Kitchen this morning. We started with coffee latte for me and cappuccino for my wife and hot chocolate with marsh-mallows for the kids. All the drinks were delicious and perfectly made. For our second round, we had Vegan Breakfast, House Hash Brown, Mozzarella and Tomato Toastie, and Big Breakfast. The Vegan Breakfast was particularly im-pressive, with a variety of delicious and satisfying vegan options, including chick-pea scramble, tofu scramble, and avocado toast. The House Hash Brown was also excellent, with a crispy crust and fluffy interior. The Mozzarella and Tomato Toastie was a simple but delicious dish, with perfectly melted cheese and fresh tomatoes. Salmon fish slices also awesome. The Big Breakfast was also very good, with a generous portion of eggs, bacon, sausage, beans, and toast. The service at Well Street Kitchen was also excellent. Our server was friendly and attentive, and our food arrived quickly and hot. We also appreciated the fact that the restaurant had a variety of high chairs also plants made the environment a green which made family and children feel good. Overall, we had a great experience at Well Street Kitchen. The food was delicious, the service was excellent, and the restaurant was family-friendly. We would definitely recommend this restaurant to other families.

Staff are always helpful and happy. Servo e is very good and speedy. And of course, the few items I've tried from the menu, have always been delicious. They make their own hash browns and fish cakes and they taste amazing.

I just found out about this cafe and went there recently with my husband. The food is delicious and the staff is friendly. I had the menemen style eggs and my husband had the veggie breakfast. The ambiance is great and the prices are good too. Will definitely be back soon.

I’m just so, so happy when I come across cafès like this. The interior is cute and inviting, with local artwork showcased on its walls. The staff are warm. Every part of my Middle Eastern breakfast plate (also, YES a ME breakfast plate!) was cooked perfectly. They serve great baked goods from a small, independent bakery. Simple pleasures executed well—the makings of a good day.

Super friendly and welcoming staff. Ordering a coffee feels like a brief catch up with a good friend. Lovely coffee and great food too - their house baked beans are a real treat.
