I am a bit of a foodie and adore sushi. I've been living in London for 8 years now and can honestly say this is the best sushi I have had. The restaurant itself doesn't look glamorous, it's very small. However, that's what I like about it. The food is incredible despite the restaurant being unpretentious. It has a very authentic feel to it and the service time is fast. I would highly recommend this place and order the aubergine! (Nasu Dengaku)
Sushi (nigiri) was really excellent however I also had the Chicken Teriyaki Jyu which came with a layer of mayonnaise and wilted salad between the chicken and rice, this was an unpleasant surprise. Portion size was huge though. Based on my experience I’d go back but just for the sushi, maybe try a bento box next time and ask for no mayo.
Great food but:
- Possibly the worst structured menu ive ever seen. Too much choice, menus, take away, mixes and individual sushi that you are completely lost.
- The people in service barely understand you so they cant help either.
- if the place is full they take forever to serve you and sometimes forget dishes.
- the place is too small and too noisy, although if you want something resembling a true sushi spot experience in japan you are half way there.
Once you get past the tangible lack of wifi signal and unusual smell, your taste buds will give the food here a standing ovation. A perfect meal here comprises the black cod, fermented eggplant, seaweed salad and sake shots. If you've got somewhere to be and quick - power up on a bento box instead!
If you're a sushi lover like me and tired of the overpriced sushi joints, Eat Tokyo is where you should be!
Get ready to sit in a little box like space that you have to enter through a little passage beside the kitchen. Live sushi and lot of seafood smells in the air to add to the entry.
The waitresses are all clad in traditional kimono and it adds to the charm of this place, making it look super authentic.
It's a large expansive menu and has a brilliant sake collection. Amongst stuffing ourselves with 7 dishes we ordered amongst three people my picks are the prawn tempura, tartar roll, spicy salmon or tuna roll.
The service is super quick, and well the decor is like a canteen.
Why should you go ? The sake collection and freshest sushi that don't cost a bomb.
P.S For heavens sake, don't try sake shots.
Keep gobbling xx
The food is very authentic and fish seems very fresh. The service is efficient and the atmosphere simple and very close to the one we found in Tokyo. The price is ok and it is worth for the quality and quantity of food. Do expect the fried smell stick into your clothes after leaving the place and some noise in the room.
Eat the Mentaiko roll!! It looks deceivingly simple but is heaven in every bite. Eat Tokyo never fails to disappoint, especially for its price tag.
Eat Tokyo is a rather unremarkable looking restaurant near Notting Hill Station. It's so bland from the outside that despite living in the neighborhood for 3 years, l never came here. Always putting it off for another day.
But boy am l glad I did. Inside it's very canteen like and almost austere. A TV playing what look like old school videos of Japan being the only extravagance.
There's a Sushi bar in front of the sushi chefs. But with seating only for 4.
The Canteen looks are deceiving though. This might be one of the best Japanese Restaurants in London and probably the best Japanese restaurant when one considers value for money.
The best dishes are Takoyaki, Black Cod with Miso, Aubergine with Miso and any of the Sashimi or Sushi.
One of the best sushi places I've been to in london. Don't let the small entrance and boring decor fool you it's a hidden gem with the most amazing fresh top quality sushi ever!
Probably one of the best Japanese restaurant I've ever been in. It's not a sushi place (thankfully) but they do serve good sushi.
Very accessible, just a moment away from Notting Hill underground in one the back streets.
Inside it's very basic but the staff are Japanese and knowledgeable of the food they serve and prepare.
The food is fantastic, probably the best sushi I've had in London. But the meal itself is fantastic. I had a pork-sara, I think. Can't remember the name, actually.
Meat was well cooked and prepared in a ginger mushroom broth. Wow.
I was thinking that the portions are huge, especially for the price ( £9 ), then waitress said "oh, thats for two".
We paid just over £16pp, and this with beer.
Very nice place and I will go there again to try the rest. Maybe, just for sushi!
Good sushi, good food at affordable prices.
Yesterday I wanted to have a walk around the portobello road, and photograph the market. I had no idea where to go for a quick lunch in Noting Hill, as typically I would go for pizza express or just grab a sandwich in the area. I decided to check Zomato and found about Eat Tokyo. It was pretty easy to find it, it's very close to the underground station.
Once we got in we were welcomed by friendly staff who took us to our table. It almost feel like a canteen with the wooden tables and chairs. It's a place to sit down, relax and enjoy the food with no strings attached.
The menu was huge and it had loads of good options! We went for sushi to start with and I went for the Bento Box. I also had the japanese green tea - which is really fresh and delicious, all you would expect from a great green tea.
The service was pretty quick. Before I had time to think of anything else, the sushi arrived. Pretty delicious! Then my Bento Box which was quite big as well. The teriaki salmon was pretty good. His main was also quite a big portion.
We had loads of food and we've paid £33 pounds for the two of us. Really good value for money! Once I'm in the area I will be back.
Give it a go, I'm sure you won't regret it! Thanks for this places where it's all about honest good food and not about being fancy and pretentious!
I've been here with my daughter. The chef kids were doing the homework at the first table. The restaurant was very busy but the kind of busy you expect in a small, truly and family run japanese restaurant.
My daughter chose a variety of nigiris and sushi. Perfect cut fish and rice well cooked and seasoned. I choose a Katsu Jyu. I love Katsu Jyu and this one was perfect.
I don't give a better score because the tables were almost glue to each other. There were no privacy at all and the space to pass between tables were minimal.
This is a nice and basic Japanese restaurant. I have been here twice in the past, and have enjoyed myself both of these times. It has a very basic and simple setting, and large parties are often made to sit in the karaoke rooms. The menu is quite extensive and it could be confusing to a novice. However, I love the food. I had the katsu curry one time, which was large and yummy. My assorted sashimi bowl which I ordered had tuna, salmon, mackarel and other fish. It was all very fresh and tasty. Agreed this is not the best restaurant in the world, but it is better than a lot of options available out there.
The reason why we visited this place was because we happened to read a lot of positive reviews about it in the recent past. I must state that our hopes were not dashed by a disappointing experience as it was definitely something memorable.
Though crammed, this place has an essence of its own. If you are craving for some great sushi, do give this place a shot!
The decor here is kept to the basic and that is the thing that i really love here.
The menu is huge so you have a lot of options to choose from.
I ordered salad and it seemed very fresh and healthy.
The service here is pretty slow and I really wish that they can work on this department.
I will definitely be back here.
This is a place serving good Sushi food but nothing extra ordinary and always good for a quick bite. We were a group of six people and whatever we ordered was appealing, appetizing and delectable. The decor was simple and soothing. The owner of this place is Japanese. Would definitely come here more often now!
I had the most authentic sushi of all time. This place is not too pricey and still the quality is not sacrificed. All the ingredients are fresh.
This is a small place but according to me it is a must go. The menu is vast so you have a lot of options to choose from.
The service is very good and you will have a warm feeling about this place.
If you are looking for fresh sushi then you must give this place a chance and you would love it.
The fish served to us was raw and it was undercooked. Visit this place only if you are craving for sushi and are truly desperate for it. For lack of more options around the corner, we happened to step into this restaurant and learned that the service here was chaotic.
Take my word as a caveat and do not venture into this restaurant on a weekend afternoon.
I had an amazing meal here. The food was delicious to say the least. One very important thing to be pointed out, whatever sushi we ordered, was all fresh! The service is quick and the staff are very cheerful. The only downside is the seating within the restaurant and how long one can stay on their tables for.
A must try would be the prawn tempura.
This restaurant serves really good sushi. We had our meal on the ground level. The ambience was quite good and the décor was also fine. All the varieties of sushi that we tried were equally good and I would recommend you to try their fried pumpkin if you are planning to visit this restaurant.
This is a casual Japanese place but the food that these guys will be providing is going to be top notch and the authenticity is also going to be there.
The portions were quite filling and the food was pretty reasonable too , according to me.
It is an excellent place to hang out with your friends or family and have great food.
This is undoubtedly some of the best sushi available in this area. Although, the setting of the restaurant is quite simple and unpretentious, it is a really nice environment for a casual meeting. The prices are really reasonable, and the quality of the food is top-notch. The staff is very courteous and polite, and although service is a little slow, but the food makes up for it. I highly recommend it.
I have visited this restaurant many number of times and the quality has always been top notch. The food is always mouth-watering and the service is unbelievably quick. The portions served are also quite large compared to the prices charged which I find in a reasonable range. The atmosphere is quite lively and you must make a reservation before going there as it becomes really crowded at times.
Not making a reservation, we managed to walk in however did not get a table for at least an hour. However, this did not disappoint us at all as the food was brilliant and more than made up for the delay caused. My partner ordered the sashmi and it was cooked to perfection.
The only dismaying factor was the service charge which made us feel as though we were paying through our nose,
I Pre booked the table and I was very happy because if I had not done that then I was supposed to wait in a long queue.
The food was delicious and was full of flavors , I had sushi which was very good after a very long time.
The food was pretty fresh and will give you great value for your money.
This place has some great food on the offer. My friend and I were on the lookout for some sushi and this place did not disappoint one bit. The range of Japanese dishes they had was very impressive. The staff was so polite and helpful. To top it all, the restaurant was located really well. I will go again.
This restaurant is my new favorite. They serve excellent sushi at a very good price and the presentation is also lovely. It is the ambiance of the restaurant that outshines everything else. It is phenomenal and beautiful The restaurant is comparatively small but is a real gem the service is swift and the place is totally worth it.
I know people can get a lot picky when it comes to sushi and why not , it is a difficult dish to master. Well , i had a happy discovery. This place serves the best sushi in the city. The prices are healthy for your pocket and for the authentic taste of true Japanese food, it is quite incredible! The dishes are prepared with great care and fresh ingredients. The service too is prompt and efficient. If you are a sushi fan,you must definitely try this place.
The place offers authentic Japanese cuisine. I have been a regular at this place since a long time and every time I visit this place, it is an enjoyable experience. The menu consists of an extensive variety of dishes. The food here is extremely delicious and fresh. It is available for both, eat-in and take-away option. I would surely recommend this place to people who enjoy Japanese cuisine.
This place was great for the food but we had booked a table in advance, and the staff seemed to have record of it so we were made to sit in a small place by the wall- such a turnoff. The service however was good, and the food exceptional.
Good Sushi, good atmosphere and good service
I’ve been in this place with my family we don’t love that much Sushi and when we have the chance to go out for dinner, we like other tastes but following Zomato reviews I decided to give it a try.
As it happen most of the time, even in this case, the reviews were giving a good idea of what to expect and we have really enjoyed our dinner at Eat Tokyo.
The entrance of the Restaurant is not really up to the expectation for a Japanese Restaurant, but when you are in the atmosphere change completely and you really feel like being in Japan.
The welcome is very nice then, the service is very good and all moves in a good way to have quite a quick service, last but not least the food is really good and especially we liked all the different sushis, as the rice is delicate and all pieces are small.
Enjoy!
Food: The tamago egg is done to perfection. The salmon quality is top notch! For all you sushi lovers this is a must try! There is no wonder why it is certified by the Japanese embassy. The menu has a wide variety of choices (yes, it's not all about maki!) don't hesitate to try new options.
and most of all enjoy!
-Atmosphere/Seating: It depends which one you go to. I've been to quite a few of them including the one in Holborn and Charing Cross. Nothing too special and you will most likely find places, but there have been very busy times.
-Location: well, depends which one you go to.
Bon Apetit!
Small, very busy restaurant and I really do love it because they do not fork out so much on the restaurant it self, you can really see where the money goes (into the food). They have such a variety! Seems all too authentic! As I said, very busy so do call in to book a table or arrive as soon as they open (evenings only)
Eat Tokyo is not known to be high-end, despite the location being full of places that are, but it doesn’t need to be. The freshness of the fish, quality of the food, HUGE selection of choice on the menu, speedy and no frills services is amazing.
You won’t be disappointed here and it’s one of the few eat-Tokyo’s where you won’t need to queue for ages outside, you’ll likely get a table indoors pretty quick.
Wonderful Japanese restaurant.
Perfect combination between service, quality of products and price.
You can with friends, on a date, with childrens, adults...
But you have to go.
Medium price.
They serve quickly and gently.
If you are full while eating your plate you can ask for it to be take away.
very good value for the food. £15 for the sashimi bento. however, felt like we are being chased by two waiters. even though our slot was for 1.5 hour. and there was still alot of empty tables.
I’ve been to EatTokyo Notting Hill a few time. It and each time my experience has been great. The Bento and the Chicken Katsu curry are both amazing in flavours and overall very good portions for the price that you pay. I highly recommend EatTokyo, but I have to say that it’s best to book before you decide to go.
The food was amazing! We both agreed it was the best Teriyaki Salmon we’ve ever had. The miso soup is delicious and the sushi tasted fresh. We went twice during our 5 day stay in London. Definitely would recommend!
Amazing food with lots of selections! Not too expensive but Delicious & Scrumptious Foods😋😋😋 we would definitely go there again when we’re in London. It was exact 12PM and we both were starving and found this restaurant ! It was already full by the time our food arrived! It shows how good and popular they are!!👍👈⭐️🙏
The place was nice, however the price can be steep as compared to other Japanese restaurants. Overall good! Definitely worth visiting
Food as usual was very delicious and fresh, it’s one of my favourite sushi place in London. Prices are very reasonable compared to other chains. Notting Hill branch was very busy last night hence service was slow, one platter was being served at a time. Make sure you book a table in advance otherwise you’ll be waiting a long time
Busy for a reason! The food was very good. Lovely sushi, gyozas were great. Only thing was the mochi at the end was a little bland, but for the price the meal was great so would definitely recommend here.
The moment you enter the place a smell of deliciousness hits your nose and makes you want to sit down and order even more. They have a lot of staff members and with a reason. It’s a busy restaurant. The service was good nevertheless.
The food was amazing. Tasty. Filling. Affordable. Honestly, everything one would need. It’s honestly such a gem in the city centre. Prompts to them for keeping their prices the way they are!
I’ve been there many times.
The food is good but my only concern is that the restaurant has ventilation issues.
You’re going to smell the food once you enter, strong soya sauce smell with fried food smell will be on you and your clothes. Just take a good shower after.
Hope they can solve this.
No queue like other branches! As always, it’s good and fulfilling.. their bento is always worth the price. Great quality
This is really authentic japanese food, best ive had outside Japan(better than some in japan too). Also worth noting that its quite cheap by any standard, especially the bento boxes, yet still not sacrificing taste or portion sizes.
The dinner was so good that i cant even choose my favourite dish, nothing let me down.
Eat Tokyo is still my no 1 Japanese small chain restaurant in london.
Their sushi is always fresh and service is fast.
Their menu is vast and prices are actually very good it’s not expensive in comparison to other sushi restaurant where you get sub par quality for higher prices.
If you can’t decide then go for their bentos their are great value for money.
Eat Tokyo is one of the most affordable Japanese restaurants in London. The Gyu Don and Tem Don both came under £10 each, with pretty big portions too.
Service could've been a bit better as we had to wait quite a while to be seated despite having available tables and no queue.
Absolutely delicious and fresh. The prices are really good as well considering that £30 fed 2 adults very well! Food arrived quickly and the Takoyaki Octopus balls were super hot. The staff were really friendly as well and funny. Been to 3 Eat Tokyo in London and this one so far is my favourite!
