Reviews Electricity Showrooms

So, I pass Electricity Showrooms a lot in the evening and normally see a thriving bar, with music, a queue and essentially a bar/club vibe. I have even had drinks there on occasion. I like it, it has down to earth clientelle, made up mostly of locals.

Having met a friend and wandered around Shoreditch, as usual, my stomach was grumbling. There are the usual suspects in the area for a roast like The Princess of Shoreditch, The Old Red Cow, Jones & Sons and a few more if you were to look at the numerous online guides on the web. Today I discovered a new talent, Electricity Showrooms.

We wanted somewhere not too busy, so we went off Shoreditch High Street and discovered this venue which was a winner because as it only had five tables full. I had no idea there would be a roast on the menu, I just figured I was glad to be away from the usual Sunday masses around Shoreditch/Brick Lane etc. Upon seeing the roast on the menu, it was a no-brainer. I ordered half a roast chicken with the trimmings. It came with creamy broccoli on the side and a decent amount of gravy. The chicken was partnered with lush roast potatoes, parsnips, carrots and of course the obligatory massive Yorkshire pudding. I hate having to ask for extra gravy, as most places are normally stingy, but this was excellent – it had its own little jug. Smothering this delicately roasted chicken was a delight. My companion opted for spicy chicken wings and fries – she enjoyed hers, but I could see there was a bit of food envy.

Electricity Showrooms was a nice little surprise and certainly deserves its spot on a list if the requirement is good food, a chilled Sunday vibe and reasonable pricing.

Whilst we enjoyed our meal at Song Que, it left us a tad disappointed. As we both knew Vietnamese food is a lot better than that. The broth for the Pho was excellent, but it would have to be. As if any self-respecting Vietnamese restaurant serves up a lim

Electricity Showrooms is hard to miss, given the space it takes up on the corner of Hoxton Square/Old Street/all kinds of pretty diversions. It's always been one of those places "I've been meaning to go to" so it was a nice little tick off the list when I dropped by last week. Great layout and decor, very friendly staff who are chatty and happy to help about most things. Good experience through and through.

Good beer selection and fairly lively pub. Not cheap, but inline with surrounding places. Worth going to for a drink or two on Friday.

Reliably good bar with large seating area with room to stand. Gets quite busy on some evenings in the run up to and including the weekend. Lots of choices of drinks as well, though might have to wait a while to get served at the bar when it's busy

A cool and funky pub/bar that is a great place to go for after work drinks. They have friendly staff and a good selection of cocktails available on their menu. The drinks aren't extortionate so that helps too. There's always a good vibe here

Despite being in 'trendy' Shoreditch, the land of the pretend people, , this is a great little basement bar with a funky dance floor and decent music to rock out to. Gets lively as the evening goes on. Friendly atmosphere. OK drink prices. Would definitely go again for a fun night out.

Spacious modern pub. Lots of seating, but usually very crowded in the evening. A good selection of beers. Friendly staff, but often somewhat chaotic service. Good atmosphere. As well as the name it has the look of a building that was once an electricity showroom, back in the day before privatisation.

Fantastic place in Shoreditch, upstairs is more of a pub atmosphere where they serve ale and beers. Downstairs is where the magic is, an 80s style light panels on the dance floor and most importantly cocktails. The music downstairs was good and not to loud so one didn't have to shout to speak with friends. Recommended if you're in the area.

This is a strange place in it's second incarnation, Having been refitted in the early part of this century as a gleaming white cube, it has now been refurbished as an old fashioned boozer, with wood panelling and William morris style wallpaper. The pub itself is very much a reflection of the area, It has a late opening club/bar in the basement room which is open till the late hours, and on a Friday and Saturday it is often crammed to the gills. However this is a quite a good pub to hang out in for a days drinking, and on a warm sunny day they open the windows and you literally get the outside in and it's a great space. The revolving beer list is excellent and the staff are knowledgeable and approachable. My one complaint is the food and the prices of the food, the prices have recently gone up and the food quality hasn't gone up to match this, I used to really like the fish finger sandwiches that they did, but recently I have seen a definite drop off in quality.

There's just something about this place I love. From the wooden revolving entrance you know you're going to experience something different. Great juxtaposition between Victorian decor upstairs to the 70s disco dance floor if you follow the peacock downstairs... One note: this place has an unenviable (but rightful) reputation for some of the worst door staff in London. A lot of people cannot swallow their pride when challenged by security, but it'll be your loss. Be on your best behaviour at the door, then let loose and have great night inside!

Always a good range of craft beer on tap. Usually a couple of local ones, a few from the continent and one or two from across the pond. The foods pretty good to boot.. Quiet during the day and busy in the evenings. Really like the large windows to watch the world through.

Warm Ambience, friendly staff, cute decor. Good place for large groups. I was lucky enough to have patient bar- tenders who heard 20 of us out and got all our drinks right, fast.

Love the decor, however I always end up only having one drink here. There's something about the atmosphere that I don't gel with. The punters seem to be slightly ruder in this establishment than those around it. I don't really understand why.

Large tasteful pub with plenty of comfy seating and large selection of real ales and craft beers. Downstairs is a cellar bar with disco floor a la Michael Jackson's Billy Jean video. It looks amazing.

A local haunt. Service is always good despite being so busy at weekends. Get here early enough and you'll get good seats. Downstairs is a cheesy disco lit dance floor and perfect for a fun night out. Spent many tipsy nights doing dodgy dance moves here. Just wish it stayed open later than 1am.

Quality wooden pub with a great eclectic ambience (you might be able to guess by the name that the theme is electricity). They always have top quality brews on tap, and friendly folks to serve it for you. The crowd tends to be a bit more techie than local. On Fridays, it's usually packed, and a bit lairy, but during weeknights it's a good, laidback watering hole
