Tried the vanilla, red bean, and green tea flavors today. Absolutely delicious. This is the real deal, the stuff my childhood memories of Taiwan are made of! Can't wait to go back and try their chocolate one too!
The vanilla custard was delicious! Not too sweet, just perfect.
Definitely worth a try ✅ if you’ve never had one and true-to-memory if you’re a wheelcake fan.
Wheelcakes (車輪餅) are a dessert made from a fluffy pancake-like batter, cooked in cast iron pans, with a creamy filling inside. 🤩
💵Price: £10 for 4 which I’d recommend so you can sample the different custard flavours!
☑️ They’re made freshly, on-site, so the custard filling is hot when you get them.
⏰ Waiting time: Being freshly-made does mean that you may have to wait around 10min for your order depending how busy they are—but it’s well worth it and there’s so much to see at Old Spitalfields Market while you wait.
You’ll get a ticket number 🎫 so you can come back and collect your order.
Menu: The wheelcakes come in a variety of flavours. Vanilla custard is the golden standard 🤤 but I also tried: the 🍵 matcha, azuki 🫘 bean and chocolate 🍫 (my favourites are in that order too but it’s definitely down to personal flavour preference).
Wheelcakes are each marked with a symbol 👀 so you know which one you’re eating (image added for reference).
I’ll definitely be back! 🥳
Stopped here due to my friend asking me to get her some of the wheel cakes to try, and out of curiosity I decided to try one myself too!
Before buying I asked if they could be reheated as my friend wanted to try them warm, and conveniently they have a card advising how they should be stored and reheated if necessary which I found super helpful!
As for the cake, I tried the matcha one. It was served hot and although I enjoyed it I feel the flavour wasn't as strong as I would have liked. I can't say for the other flavours!
We had a chocolate custard wheel cake. Was nice, warm and gooey. Will go again.
Quite good, not too sweet and crispy outside. I would have like the azuki bean paste to be smoother and the cake to be a tiny bit thinner. The vanilla cream is good. Overall, quite good.
The wheelcake with chocolate and vanilla custard flavour was very good and something that’s worth trying second time. The one with matcha did was not up to my taste and the other two kinds were gone closer to 6pm on a Saturday so I did not have a chance to try them
Absolutely fell in love with this place!
Concept is cool, unique and you feel like you get exposed to such a great peculiar treat. This company focuses on the cakes and they do it well!
I tried the vanilla custard and the limited edition rose cake. Vanilla was okay but the rose was absolutely amazing!
Cakes are not too sweet but ideal if you want to maybe try something new to the usual western pastel de natas or similar.
Very friendly service and swift actioning. Worth a try!
We absolutely loved these little pancake-tasting wheelcakes at Spitalfields Market. We opted for the 3 for £7 deal as we spotted a macha flavour one and as we got to the front of the queue, noticed a sticker advertising a Lotus Biscoff wheelcake, and decided to get one of those and a vanilla as well.
We had to wait for about ten mins for them to make up some fresh Biscoff ones, so we took the other two to try whilst it was being made.
The vanilla one tasted a bit like the custard you used to get at primary school, but we didn't dislike it. The macha one was perfect, a nice subtle flavoured green filling inside a melty warm cooked batter.
I would recommend getting about 12 Biscoff cakes each and just having done with it, because they were little golden nuggets of HEAVEN. They tasted a bit like sticky toffee pudding with all the melted Biscoff goodness.
Loved it. Can't wait to have more.
Yum wheel cakes!! We got the matcha, custard and adzuki as well as a rose milk tea. The matcha has to be my favourite!! So creamy
Had the matcha wheelcake. It was not very sweet which is something I liked. Dough was very good. Enjoyed it with a chai (Chai guys are next to it). Fast service.
A very interesting, delicious dessert! Satisfied my sweet tooth without being too sugary. Crispy outside and a warm, doughy inside with subtle matcha cream. A wonderful treat.
It was so nice to taste wheelcake in London. I bought 3 for 2. But could not taste matcha flavour though it was green inside. Others were fine.
As we were walking through Westfield at Sheperds Bush, we passed the wheelchair island. Tempted and curious we tried 2, but were recommended 3 for 7£ and I am glad we did. We tried macha, oreo biscuit and the extra last one was with lotus biscuit spread.
Now the Macha didn’t taste significantly, which was surprising. Oreo was... Oreo. I was fairly disappointed. But then we tried the lotus one and OMG. By far, the best one. Nice warm, tasty. The cake sponge has alright but kinda plain flavour. But with the spread it is the right combo. We went back to buy one more of these but they were sold out. I will come back to try the red bean one day and then I will see if I will become regular or not.
Yummy wheelcake!! I ordered their 3 for £7. Red bean filled, matcha and vanilla. All three were delicious!! 👍🏻 i just hope i had not forgotten to take a photo individually 😞 Will definitely be back for more
Even though the Pumpkin and custard cake is on special it is my absolute favourite. The cakes are good when fresh an warm but even better when completly cooled. You get three for seven bucks but they are worth every penny.
It was super delicious! Divine! The fillings are generous and be careful while eating as it is easy to become messy when you bite. I didn’t go to their own shop but I went to the Chinese food festival for it as they had a stall there.
I always get a wheelcake when Im near Spitalfields! The fillings are so tasty and warm and the waffle complements the flavours. Great value and would highly recommend the custard flavour!
