Even in my darkest times while living in Australia (it’s true, I used to complain more than I should have, it’s really not that bad), there was always one thing about it that gave me hope in a better life, in the existence of a higher purpose: Spud Bar. Something as simple as a baked potato with all the filing one could wish is the perfect evolution of “fast food” that also doesn’t make me feel like I’ve just drank antifreeze.
I was surprised to see a potato chain, similar to Spudbar, operating here in London. I was also surprised to see my Mealpal-ordered Chicken Curry Potato turn into a Pesto and mozzarella one (due to being sold out). Another unintended vegetarian lunch, sigh. This meal left me a little puzzled. The sweet potato, although ridiculously priced, is cooked to complete perfection and holds it together. It almost makes it worthwhile. Almost. The skin is a unblemished jacket with a thorough lashing of pesto and cheese. But it’s not the right cheese for a sweet potato. It just ends up being a clump, and the lovely bright pesto separates with all the olive oil at the bottom of the box. I reckon I would have had a much better time with the dazzling chicken curry potato, but even then, the sweet potato in isolation is tantalising simplicity.
Good little spot - I love jacket potatoes & I was really impressed with my mushroom based filling. Good 'different' choices and very tasty. It's a busy place & service was quick, which I observed was consistent whilst enjoying my lunch here. Only feedback was for the staff to smile & look like they were enjoying it - if this happens it will be even better. Recommend a visit...
I wouldn’t have thought I’d have been so impressed with a jacket potato for lunch. But my recent visit to The Potato Project in Soho was one of the more satisfying meals out I’ve had recently. From “a twist on a classic” to “something a little different,” The Potato Project’s menu ranges from just what you’d expect to see placed atop a potato to more inventive and even intriguing combinations.
A homely Soho café dedicated to the humble spud & one of the best value-for-money lunch around.
Must-orders: the ham hock jacket + coleslaw combo, the (sweet potato) cheesecake
This little hidden place has a very different concept and is very delicious. It offers jacket potato with different fillings and one portion is big enough to fill you up. A very small place but definitely worth trying.
Recommendation - tuna
Halal- no
This was a great place to go to get a quick meal, it was the first place we ate in Soho after checking in to our airbnb just around the corner and it was perfect. Staff was very friendly and helpful in making the tough decision about which potato to choose. The 3 of us all chose different potatoes but they were all amazing.
They have a very small space upstairs where you order and then they have a couple of communal tables downstairs with more space to sit.
The BBQ duck potato was truly amazing. Nice that the potato was well cooked and not dried out or hard. Skin was nice and crisp. Can't wait to go back
Great idea! The potato was awesome! So delicious and my order was prepared super quick. Can't wait to go back!
This used to be Tosca an Italian family cafe which had been in Soho a long time.
Unfortunately times change and the Potato Project took over.
I love jacket potatoes and this is a really good idea.
Okay it may only be a potato with a filling but the fillings are really nice.
Good for lunch, like it.
Delicious surprise! Interesting new way of presenting jacket potatoes. Very nice spot right in the middle of central London, ideal for business lunches or take aways.I'd highly recommend it
Delicious lunch spot in Soho. So good they now deliver lunch for our team meetings. The classics have been elevated to the next level, but I really enjoy the twists, the BBQ duck to be precise.
I'm a fan!!! Great service. They taste amazing, great filling options (Loved the duck), and a break from the norm for lunch. Definitely recommend you try them.*****
Good old jacket with new flavor twist
My boss told me to come and collect her order from here. I had to wait for a while because of the thing I ordered I didn't seem to know why. Apart from that the food was really good and I would recommend it
The potato with blue cheese, wild mushroom, spinach and truffle oil was amazing. A bit pricey as a regular lunch option but totally worth it.
Amazing service and very good potatoes. I'll be back!!
Really cool spot. Who knew the humble spud could be so interesting!? The thai chicken sweet potato was really good! I'll be back soon!
The duck and mozzarella jacket potato was a 10/10. A great spot in Soho for a solid lunch!
