I confess, prior to discovering Tex Bites, I used to drive through Leytonstone very fast, with my car windows up and my doors locked. I still really cannot think of any other reason to stop off in Leytonstone other than to eat at Tex Bites (just kidding...).
Tex Bites was a surprise hit that I stumbled upon late one night, when I suddenly got the munchies when passing by. Admittedly, I do not know the area very well and I had not previously heard of any good eateries in the area. So, it was a welcome revelation to discover Tex Bites and its Fried Chicken. I have deliberately gone on many a detour just to eat there ever since! It has turned into a guilty pleasure of mine and I am embarrassed that it has taken me this long to write a review.
At Tex Bites, the Fried Chicken simply tastes great. It is always crunchy on the outside, moist inside, somehow not oily at all and always very flavoursome. I am not really a big Fried Chicken fan, as I dislike how oily and unhealthy it usually is, but both the Large Chicken Pieces and the Chicken Wings at Tex Bites are an exception and a must try.
However, there are a few caveats! Be prepared to wait for your food - sometimes a long time. Most of the food is cooked to order. Although this results in better tasting fast-food, it is not exactly, er..., fast. I usually find a 15 to 20 minute wait for the Fried Chicken, although the Burgers are usually ready in 5 minutes. Their Burgers are generally poor. The 'Mexicana' and the 'Mini-Fillet' Burgers are the better ones but are average at best. Also, the Crinkly Fries are relatively flavourless and nothing special, the BBQ Beans are never in stock and you should never try the coleslaw! If the management sorted out these issues and provided better quality condiments and drinks, this place would easily score higher. One should also ignore the 'Grilled Peri Chicken - Coming Soon' sign - it has been there for 2 years and is still coming!
Anyway, all is forgiven when you bite into their Fried Chicken....damn, it really is that good. I suddenly find myself planning my next Tex Bites detour!
Halal.
Mini Fillet Burger: £2.50 | So I went to Tex Bites in Leytonstone with the cousin sisters. We ordered a mini fillet burger each. Though it's called a burger, it actually looked and tasted like a sub from Subway. Anyway in terms of taste, it was the best mini fillet burger ever! I absolutely loved it! Tasted amazinggg! The fillet was crispy and flavoursome. The bun, though not toasted, was served hot and soft. The whole thing together was just so delicious! Foodie.007 x
Great place with great food
One of the best wings I’ve ever had in my life, usually in chicken shops the fried food is lying there for hours. Tex bites makes fresh wings every few minutes with some of the best coating.
Some of the best wings you can get in London, crispy, full of flavour and the chicken isn't dried out like other places.
Good value for money, some nice drinks included with the meals.
Have had some issues with cold chips and slow service but generally would recommend.
Can't stretch enough how good this place is, this is the only chicken shop I go to. Clean place, good food, and nice staff. The price does equal to the taste as the food is very high quality and never tasted a better burger anywhere else.
Best fried wings around. Crispy and succulent. The angus beef burger is on point. The crinkle cut chips are a welcome change from your usual french fries. The owner is a top bloke, always providing service with a smile. Highly recommend.
The most crispy wings you will ever have. Must try. Now backyard BBQ have joined them so more choices 👍
For those who have been here many years and wondering if it's still the same with the new addition, yes it is still the same but now offer grilled food. I ordered a Mexicana burger and was as delicious as ever.
Definitely the best chicken shop I’ve been to. The Mexicana burger and jalapeño wraps are amazing. Mohammed the chef, his hands must be made of gold the way he cooks the food
The chicken is very juicy and succulent, the atmosphere in the shop is very welcoming and the staff in very helping/kind!!
Used to come here regularly. Since re-opening I have tried the wings which are still tasty, the chicken burgers were great as usual, but Wagyu was simply amazing. I also ordered the Angus burger and I was a little disappointed, felt the portion was too small and the cheap cheese they used wasn’t even melted, they used ready made fried onions, normally wouldn’t have minded but at this price point they really need to make an effort. Finally I didn’t understand why the chef was blowing on my Angus burger, found that odd and unhygienic. Hopefully the owners review feedback given and improve.
Been going here for years, food is unique, different to your regular chicken shop - the chicken is premium and crunchy. Recommend the jalapeño bombers. The service is always top notch, really nice people working here.

I love the mexicana burger meal. The burger was well prepared and tasted so nice.
I have to mention that the chips are so crispy and tasty! Thank you so much!!
Great Alternative To KFC, And Very Different To Your Everyday Run Of The Mill East London Chicken Shop. Highly Recommend The Mexicana Burger And Jalapeno Bombers. They Serve Crinkled Cut Fries Here Which Makes For A Good Change Along With Crispy Chicken Wings.
Posted this place 3 times while working in the area for a week. Certainly not your average chicken shop, the taste and quality was very good. The mexicana burger with nachos in was particularly tasty.
