What a great, hidden gem. The staff were brilliant and the ambience. Great mix of crowd and superb sound for the loud music. Only negative and it's stupid, but there was never loo roll in the toilets. Sorry! I'm splitting hairs because everything else was fab.

The Effra Social is awesome with lovely staff, a great atmosphere and the coolest decor (it's an Antic London pub). Recommended Brixton venue and the home of Duck Duck Goose Improv.

Another great New Year's Eve. Was only there for an hour. Drink was normal price. Great music. Nice staff.

Great venue for the [374245516253770:Duck Duck Goose] Improv show, modern immaculate buildings can be so uninspiring. Had a great night.

Best roast meat I have had in years. Lamb shoulder just fell off the bone and so juicy. Great veg and gravy. Great service. Good wine choice and very reasonable. Decor reminded me of working men's club my family used to go to so that was a nice piece of nostalgia for me as well.

Retro but modern food. Decor and atmosphere is great and harks back to the 70s and 80s. Would highly recomend. Hidden.gem. A Brixton institution.

I visited here a couple of months earlier, but a comedy night was well under way downstairs so we didn't get to see the main room. I'm glad I made a return visit as we had a grand old time dancing away to obscure soul music & drinking pints of Truman Lazarus and bottles of Beavertown 8-Ball, with sheet music hanging above our heads on washing lines. There seemed to be 4 DJs all working at once having an absolute blast on the small stage, which added to the already very relaxed atmosphere. It almost has a wedding / student union type feel to it which is infinitely preferable to going clubbing in my opinion. There's dancing, it's open late, it's free to get in, you get pints rather than £6 bottles of Sol, you can still have a conversation and there is space for all of your friends! What's not to love?

Effra is another cracking Antic London pub (Balham Bowls Club, Tooting Tram and Social, Battersea Mess and Music Hall) with a social club feel - it was previously the local Conservative Club which shut in November 2012. It is hard to keep up with Antic who seem to open a new place in South London every week.

Interesting Brixton pub that attracts a wide variety of people for its live music and cosy ambience.

I've met all sorts of characters here from pretty Parisian classics students to a demolition crew having its Christmas party.

It serves some volatile Jamaican rums at the bar and you will hear the regular clap of dominos being slapped on the table in the front bar, where the older gents indulge their pastime.

You can sup on jerk chicken, jerk pork, mutton curry or other Caribbean favourites, while washing it down with a pint of Red Stripe (One of the few pubs with it on tap).

Back behind the main drag of Coldharbour Lane the Effra is convenient to central Brixton while being comfortably removed from the bustle. It also has a beer garden, so great in summer

And, dark and warm on a cold winter's day but with a relaxed but vibey atmosphere of an evening, it is a bit of a hidden London gem.

Great Sunday roast experience, very tasty and the staff were super accommodating when I asked for my beef to be cooked pink, and even got me a fresh plate when the first one came out well done. The last roast booking is 6 pm, so it's a nice option if you want something a bit later than the mid-afternoon cutoff I usually see in this area.

Popped in for a drink and my contactless wasn't working right and my payment was denied and I had no idea why... The barman was great 👍 I felt like an idiot 😂 nice place and very much like the TARDIS when you go in 🔵 There's seating outside and you can smoke. I might come back for dinner later 👍 ½ pint of Pepsi £1.80.. 🥳

My friend and I came here for some post-work drinks. The atmosphere is welcoming and vibrant, in fact, I would possibly refer to it as an unofficial queer/gay bar in Brixton. With a Pride flag flying high and a Pint that donates to queer charities it certainly screams welcome at all angles. I helped myself to their margaritas, both normal and strawberry which were on point. I did not try the food but my eyes wandered when plates went past me and it certainly looked delicious. There is both an indoor and outdoor space which offers ample choice of ambience. I cannot give a strong opinion on the inside but my visits to the bar were greeted with lovely staff and a live band so I can't complain. An overall wonderful experience and would recommend a visit if you're in the area.

Nice place to chill with extensive outside area and large and small bars. Large hall used for functions and events. Food is good although the menu is limited. Good selection of beers and spirits. Average prices

From the moment I contacted the Effra Social Club events team to enquire about hosting a 40th birthday they have been nothing short of amazing. Jess and her team helped me throw a birthday party that my guests and I will remember forever. Ben the barman was so lovely and Jess took real care making sure we were looked after. The venue is full of charm, the food is delicious and the staff are incredible. I couldn’t recommended this beautiful place more highly. I want to have all my birthday parties here.

A brilliant location, just off the main deaf in Brixton, but we'll worth the 3 minutes of extra steps! A great vibe, very cheerful staff and something for everyone. I had nachos and beer this time and thoroughly enjoyed it!

I hired the Churchill Room last Friday for my birthday and had a fantastic night. The staff were attentive and relaxed and made us feel so welcome. Really good comms in the lead up. Petra looked after us so well on the night. We brought our own DJ and the space really came to life later in the evening too. Thanks guys, it was a brilliant night. xx

This former conserva-spit club has lost a little of its retro charm since changing owners but has gained a lovely heated outdoor space. The food is good and there's DJs every weekend with occasional live music and comedy in the week. Check out local website Brixton Buzz for news of their regular MegaPop gay-friendly parties which are always packed and fun!

If you can just about afford to go out this is the place. The staff are friendly, drinks are ok. But you can easily get stuck there

Good for drinks and a great outdoor bit. Indoor side room has Winston Churchill features which are a bit rogue. Great quiz, but the indoor room is like a dead school dance hall when it’s not on.
