I had my first pint in this great East End pub in 1970. It was always our pub of choice on match day. Hope the move to Stratford does not force this historic pub to close. Best pint of Guiness I have ever had!

Cracking pub: A surprise to find an Olde Worlde building in East London, but this looks as old as the lamented Spotted Dog. It has well-kept real ales on hand-pump amongst the super-chilled factory fizz and the food looked good (I had just a delicious vegetable soup). Yes, there were three TVs with horse-racing and the Olympics/Champions League football showing, but the volume was low and it wasn't intrusive. A great pity it’s not located near where I live!

Proper old school pub. Great before going off to watch the hammers. Hope the move to the Olympic Stadium does not affect it too much.

Excellent pub that is well run and has excellent food that is reasonably priced. The back bar is quiet and if you are looking for somewhere you can converse after work without being drowned out this is great.

Fantastic interior with a really oldy worldy feel. Lots going on at the back bar. I can see a west ham picture mirror on the wall along with a boxing drawings. There are three TVs, modern jukebox and a game master fruit machine. Phew it's all a little overwhelming. Two cask beers from Mighty Oak and Black sheep, both in excellent condition . The rest of the beers are macro offerings. It's quiet apart from a small group propping up the end of the bar. Canning town in a complete desert for cask beer so I'd say it's well worth making the short bus journey up here. I might have another beer. Cheers

A great labyrinthine pub with faux beams all over the place. Lovely people having a drink and great staff taking care of everyone. Good beer including a couple of casks on offer. Plenty of space outside welcoming the good weather. There is a wonderful atmosphere in here, pop by for a pint.

Absolutely fantastic place. One of the last, if not THE last proper old East London pub. Run by a top Irish landlord and his family. Proper topnotch Guinness served here no less and at least one or two well-kept guest cask ales along with a massive range of whiskies (Scottish, Irish, Welsh, blended, and others) The food is amazing. (I've always gone for home made Steak and ale pie with either mash or chips and fresh veg with gravy.) It's really good value, and they serve large portions. Keeps you full all day for sure. All fresh and homemade, it seems and tastes like a lot of care has gone into making it to, and they are proud to serve you (the food and drinks). Always get a nice warm welcome, and the locals all seem friendly. However, this is a quiet, relaxed place most times I've been in, which is a welcome change. Although I imagine a fun and buzzing atmosphere for a big horse race or football match being shown. Bar snacks also served, of course, including Black Country pork scratchings. Will always return here when possible. Hidden gem. Long live the Black Lion.

The Black Lion Pub truly captures the essence of a typical British pub, making it a delightful experience from the moment you step inside. As soon as you enter, the cosy and welcoming ambience instantly gives you that warm feeling, making it perfect for both regulars and newcomers alike. What sets this pub apart is its strong connection with the locals. It's evident that the place is a hub for the community, where friends gather and stories are shared. The friendly chatter and the sense of camaraderie create a lively atmosphere that's hard to resist. One of the highlights of The Black Lion is its spacious garden at the back. It provides a lovely outdoor seating area where you can enjoy the fresh air and relax with your favourite drink. It's an ideal spot, especially during pleasant weather, and adds to the pub's charm. Speaking of drinks, this place has something for everyone. The extensive drink menu caters to various tastes, ranging from well-curated beers and ciders to a variety of other beverages. With such a diverse selection, you'll surely find your perfect drink to complement your evening. The staff at The Black Lion Pub is nothing short of wonderful. They're not only efficient but also genuinely welcoming and attentive to the guests' needs. Their friendly demeanour contributes to the overall positive experience and makes you feel like a valued customer. However, it's worth noting that the only downside to this otherwise exceptional pub is the drink prices. Some patrons have mentioned that the prices tend to be a bit higher compared to other pubs in the area. While the quality of the experience justifies it for many, it might be something to keep in mind for those on a tight budget. Overall, The Black Lion Pub is a gem for those seeking an authentic British pub experience. With its inviting ambience, strong sense of community, spacious garden, wide range of drinks, and welcoming staff, it's a place where you can unwind and create lasting memories with friends and fellow locals. Just be prepared to splurge a bit more on your drinks, but trust that the experience will make it well worth it.

Can’t be too many pubs left like this. Good mix of people, great staff, well run, giant garden, cracking interior, good beers including cask and a few craft choices alongside the usual lagers.

Nestled in the heart of our community, The Black Lion Pub stands as a testament to tradition, warmth, and outstanding hospitality which continues to serve the community after Westfield has gutted all that was authentically local from the area. The Black Lion Pub is a living, historic institutions; spanning generations, this family-owned gem has truly stood the test of time. Whether you're a regular patron or a first-time visitor, stepping into The Black Lion Pub feels like entering a haven of conviviality and cherished memories. Those in the know will remember the old Boxing Club at the back which remains legendary and was a sanctury to many. If you choose to experience this proper pub, from the moment you step foot through the door, you are greeted with the all the benefits of a family own establishment. The staff really care about the community and their patrons. It is truly a place where everyone is welcome. Then of course we must address the selection of pints, which is impressive, carefully crafted beverages, each poured with precision and expertise. I'm bias but it is (or should be a criminal offence) not to have a guiness here - you will not be disappointed. The Black Lion Pub remains an anchor of tradition and heritage, reminding us of the importance of treasuring our past while embracing the present. So, whether you're seeking a relaxing evening with friends, a place to celebrate life's milestones, or simply a refuge from the hustle and bustle, The Black Lion Pub is the space to be. Make a visit to this timeless gem, and experience firsthand the warmth, authenticity, and camaraderie that have made The Black Lion Pub an institution in our community for donkey's years. FYI: I did not eat but will do so on my next visit and update accordingly

Always a pleasure to have a traditional pub lunch at The Black Lion. Big spacious garden where you can be in your own space, yet not feel lonely.
