Reviews Oxymoron At The Royal Oak

This is the weirdest decor I have ever seen in a pub and I have seen many. The Oxymoron were kind enough to allow us to do a photoshoot with Earl of Bedlam for The Chap and we also had quite a few drinks. Worth a stroll along Lambeth Walk any day, if you like your pubs bursting with character and overflowing with weird and wonderful knick-knacks

This is my favourite pub. Warm welcome from Bill with intriguing chats and great banter from him and locals at the bar.Decor is great like an ever changing art installation. Where else would the candles be lit with a blow torch or kindlers be chopped in seconds by the barman as if he was slicing a cucumber to put on the open fire on a cold night? Love it

Hidden gem sums it up right. Great decor, good crowd (not too busy, lots of locals), lovely owners, meantime pale ale on tap. Roasts on Sundays. Dog. What more could you want?

Welcoming staff, lovely locals, quirky beyond kooky yet not placed deliberately, just is, that's what it's like: We're here, you're here, lets smile as much as possible. Not for Prophet is a thing.

I had a party here and the atmosphere was perfect - welcoming and friendly. There's also outside seating in front and back, and there's a park and playground over the road (a small side street off Kennington Road) if you have any restless children in your party.

Totally unique - you HAVE to try it! This is an old neighbourhood boozer that's been given a new lease of life. It feels like you're in someone's front room, styled in acid-trip hipster junk/antiques. Forget slick, corporate shabby chic - this is the real thing! The booze isn't the thing here (though there's talk of Kernel on tap soon), just go for the vibe. There's no food usually, but at weekends the Silver Fox cooks up a storm: check first, as his appearances are unpredictable...

Gorgeous, eclectic venue that serves a delicious VEGAN ROAST every Sunday! Kinda want to shout it from the rooftops, kind of want to keep it my best kept secret.

An amazing quirky place run by a local. You'll see a constantly changing environment with art pieces and random toys placed all around. It's literally like having a pub in a friend's garden 😊

Love the friendly vibe of this pub. Decor is bizarre and really fun. Very unexpected find in kennington. I have the strong urge to become a regular. Love that you can order in takeaway food. Felt immediately welcome which is unusual when walking into any pub for the first time.

This is the kind of place I'm ambivalent about reviewing because the amazing charm an unique ambiance is based on not to many people finding it. It is a true gem and Bill the scotsman owner is a character where reality truly is better than fiction. Cheap drinks, an awesome and friendly crowd in a place that is the definition of quirky. When I look back at my years in London some time in the future I will lovingly remember having this place around the corner.

I've always liked this place but after having my birthday party here I'm blown away by how cool this place is. Their food was amazing, the sound system is cracking and it's like having a really sophisticated jukebox. Also, Bill the owner is fantastic to deal with. My friend left his jacket there. None of us were aware of this. But Bill saw us walking past the next day and cycled after us to return it. Best birthday party ever.

Absolutely great pub! The landlord is a total legend, he's super funny and takes great pleasure in pleasing his guests. Choice of alcohol is also pretty good. Wish this was my local!

This is the best pub in London. Bill is the best landlord of all the London pubs I have ever been to. When he starts to tell a story, you must sit back (with a drink in hand) and listen.

Came here with a group for a few pints after playing football across the street. Friendly staff, excellent pub. It is going on my list of pubs that I recommend to friends despite the lack of cask ale.

Family run traditional pub. Quirky little place playing the best of 90's music in a very unconventional surrounding. The owner is a great guy to talk to.

A fantastic boozer. Friendly and interesting staff, colourful locals, good music, and - despite no cask ales - a reasonable drinks menu. Enough curios on the walls to keep you entertained for hours.

Love this pub, this is not your normal every day run of a mill pub, the decor is worth a visit on its own, for the area it's a much cheaper place for drinks. The landlord and his wife are fantastic hosts.

Great family pub, everyone's down to earth and very much it's own special flower. I hope it's here a long, long time. Too few places like this amidst London's ever growing numbers of chain pubs.
