Absolutely great food, perfectly prepared, very affordable and nice house wine too, at £14.00 a bottle, portions are enormous, I often have 2 starters instead of a main course, my wife always asks for a doggie bag. Service is great, very friendly. We eat here every week. We drag all our friends here. They all are crazy about it.
Fab steak and loved the aperol spritz
Top-notch food. And they serve Negronis...
I would highly recommend the Ginger Pig Café to anyone looking for an excellent breakfast, coffee rendezvous point, or a relaxed evening out with friends. The prices are reasonable considering the local area – just make sure you get there early to beat the queues. - See more at:

There are many places in East London to get a decent brunch these days but the Ginger Pig caught my eye with their menu a while ago and so me and my friend Alison went for a brunch date there the other day. The Ginger Pig Café, is, oddly enough, not affiliated with the famed Ginger Pig butcheries. I do find it weird that they have chosen to name themselves so closely to something that already exists but the butchers don’t seem to mind. Judging by their breakfasts though, The Ginger Pig are some serious meat lovers, and pig is indeed the flavor of the day. We had been salivating over the menu online and were a little disappointed to see that it wasn’t the same as what was on offer on the day. My friend in particular had liked the look of the Mexican heuvos rancheros, and I thought the grilled halloumi and poached egg sounded nice but neither of them were on the printed menu. Neither were the many varieties of eggs we thought would be on offer (benedict, royale, omelette). But in my hear

Something that seems so simple like an English breakfast shouldn’t be overlooked. Yes I know it’s full of calories and greasiness but there is just this one. That’s so ground breaking in London. Heading to the quieter quarter of Hoxton, passing parks, hairdressers etc. You get to Hoxton Market; the long stretch of road is filled with goodies. A mixture of quirky shops, restaurants, cafes and market stalls. At one end of that long stretch of road is The Ginger Pig café; they used to be at “The Eagle” in Farringdon road, which I missed out on when I was working in the area.

At one end of that long stretch of road is The Ginger Pig café; they used to be at “The Eagle” in Farringdon road, which I missed out on when I was working in the area. The Ginger Pig is exceptionally busy every time I pass by; my stomach had always been full. The chance finally came on a Sunday, with its wooden furniture and almost gastro pub setting. You have a choice to sit anywhere, as long as it’s free.
The plate of meats, poach eggs and tomato finally arrived, accompanied with a slice of toasted bread. I ordered extra portion of chips on the side, as I thought the half monty wouldn’t fill me up. I’m not usually a big fan of bacon, but this one slice tasted so good. You can taste the farm to table freshness from that piece, and the sausage was equally superb. Prior to ordering you have a choice of ways to have your eggs. My mood was poached eggs style, the pure white sheets enveloped the yolks, piecing into the middle the yolk juice runs in an instant. Chips were piping hot, one bite of those perfectly cooked chips and your mouth won’t stop.
The Ginger Pig café left me very satisfied; you can tell the dishes are prepared using local sourced ingredients. It is well worth the trek to Hoxton market for some grub from this insatiable café.

My friend in particular had liked the look of the Mexican huevos rancheros, and I thought the grilled halloumi and poached egg sounded nice but neither of them were on the printed menu. Neither were the many varieties of eggs we thought would be on offer (benedict, royale, omelette). But in my heart I think I would have ordered what I got anyway as it has been so long since I’ve had pancakes and I love the sweet/savoury combination of pancakes, maple syrup, eggs and bacon.
So I ordered the lumberjack – two pancakes, two pork and leek sausages, three bacon rashers, two fried eggs, and some ham!
Alison at the very last minute decided to get the full monty – eggs how you like them, sausage, bacon, black pudding, beans and mushrooms. And toast.
I got a bloody mary, she got an aperol spritz and we waited. We actually waited quite a while but I didn’t mind, taking it as a sign it wasn’t all pre-cooked and just sitting there waiting to be ordered. We both savoured our cocktails. My bloody mary was a generous serve and lasted me the whole meal – at £4.50 you can’t afford not to have one!
When it arrived we were confused. Where were Alison’s mushrooms? Where were the beans? The waitress had said something as she set them down but we couldn’t make out what so we enquired. Turns out, these come separately because, rather than give you a handful of each, you get a full dish of both to go on the side! The portions were actually verging on ludicrous. Yet, as you’ll see, a valiant effort was made to eat it all.
The brunch was a top notch breakfast – pancakes were great and there was the right amount of maple syrup to last. For the money you pay I think you’ll be hard pressed to find a heartier meal anywhere. I almost finished it but left some of my ham (it’s not my favourite cut of pork and three kinds of pig on one place is more than enough!). If I had to gripe I would say just what I’ve said – maybe there isn’t a need for so much meat. A hash brown instead would be nice. And I prefer scrambled eggs and streaky bacon with my pancakes (I think it’s the more American way) but I enjoyed it thoroughly nonetheless. The sausages were fantastic – really full of flavor and I tried to make them last as long as I could.
I was stuffed by the end of it.
This is my favourite restaurant in the neighborhood. A simple Portuguese eatery with consistently good food (and occasionally brilliant). Absolutely amazing value for money and big portions.
Have only ever eaten here in the evenings. Menu changes very frequently, but there is usually a selection of chargrilled, pan fried or braised fish and meat on the mains menu, accompanied by legumes or potatoes and a homemade sauce of some kind such as chimichurri, hollandaise, or romanesco. A staple that's always on the menu is a big rib eye or sirloin (400g) with rocket salad, chips and bearnaise. The vegetarian option is always imaginative and good enough to tempt the carnivores.
I normally order a main, and often take home some of my meal in a takeaway box. My companion typically orders two small plates (tapas style dishes such as bacalao croquettes, bruschetta with salad, grilled lamb skewers, melanzane parmesan) which combined are generous enough to make an evening meal.
There are occasional problems with timing, with one diner getting their main several minutes after the others arrive.
There's a link to the current menu on their facebook page.
hi everyone,
There is a great atmosphere in this restaurant, and the food is wonderful!
I get a huge plate for a great price, and the food is interesting and unique. Friendly service, but unfortunately, they close at 9 pm... too early, in my opinion. This place has a quaint and quiet ambiance that would be great for meeting with friends or hanging out as a couple.
Very good meaty Sunday feast in Hoxton! We had the Mixed Grill Feast* (£30 per person). Serving a huge plate of grilled beef sirloin, lamb leg and pork loin chops - comes with sides of Greek salad, Hummus, Roasted Beetroot Labneh, toasted bread and chips.
The cuts of meat were decent, portion size was huge (especially for the grilled feast). The bread was very good! Service was good. Great taste, decently priced and very worth it. Would definitely come back for the grill feast, and would highly recommend!
*Unlimited Brunch Feast until 6PM (Saturday and Sunday)
Really nice place in Hoxton. Greek salad and Lamb were amazing. Good price and nice ambience!!
Generous servings, great value and most importantly the lamb and pork loin (these were the entree sizes) were perfectly cooked. The service was good and the nice thing is they don't just shove service charge on their bill.
We had the decadent dark chocolate fondant for dessert. I'll be back to try the mains!
At £25, this has to be the best value Sunday roast (with a Latin twist) in all of London. Seriously ! The steak, chicharrones and chicken wings were delicious. And the accompanying salads and sides, very tasty. Generous portions is an understatement. A jewel of a neighbourhood cafe/restaurant. One of London’s best kept secrets, no doubt.
Excellent service and excellent food. If the lamb rump & chicken schnitzel are on the menu, you should give them a go! The chicken was juicy with lightest crumb crust. The lamb was cooked and seasoned perfectly and extremely tender. While there wasn’t another patron in the space, it didn’t stop us—don’t let it stop you!
Don’t be scared by the funny looking candles on the table. It’s a popular restaurant among the locals. They have a small menu (sorry vegetarians), we tried the chicken schnitzel, the 300g stake and crème brûlée. It’s one of those places that offers simple but good quality food. Potions of the mains are huge - especially the 300g stake and they are not lying.
Honestly.... this place.
I found it a few months back and it has set a high benchmark for eating out. I've been to other places, often far more expensive than here and they fall far short in terms of quality and service.
The menu is small but I think it's a plus; all the dishes are so tasty and the portion sizes are so generous given the prices. In particular, the pork belly and steak is to die for.
Finally, the staff know how to run a restaurant, friendly and attentive but not pushy. No compulsory service charge either, which makes me more inclined to tip more.
Don't change a thing!
We went for dinner on a Wednesday evening. The restaurant was very quiet, we were the only ones eating at the time of arrival. We ordered 2x mixed grills to share between 4 people, a couple of beers and water for the table. We absolutely stuffed! The quality of the meats were great and the fries were lovely too. The service could have been a bit faster but we didn’t mind waiting after seeing the size of the portion of our meals. It was worth the wait!
Would definitely got back on a weekend or for lunch to try out their other menu options.
How lucky we found this place … ! Best value for money and really good food . Service is amazing too.
Delicious food with generous portions and reasonable price. Very cosy and warm environment and service. The aperitifs and house red wine were lovely as well.
Restaurant is great example of primary focus on the food. Portions are generous and well fulfilling. Quality is rather outstanding. Went there couple times and highly enjoyed myself. They tend to change menu, depending on products in stock, which should ensure that you will never get bored and have a fresh indigrients, which makes menu smaller then usual, but it's great.
Oh my god the food is wonderful, the staff are great, friendly and accommodating.
Mentioned it to several friends and family to check out.
Loved it!
Excellent meal!! Got the chicken schnitzel and chicken sandwich. Very reasonably priced and huge portions, can’t wait to try their other plates next time
Fresh food, great quality, and generous portions. There isn't a lot to dislike about this place and it is nice retreat from the many overpriced, overrated and overcrowded Shoreditch restaurants
Cozy and relaxing space, very good food, lovely staff. Place to have a very pleasant time. Best atmosphere in Hoxton.
Yet another fabulous dinner! Great food, amazing drinks and most of all fabulous service. Always our number one choice when it comes to eating local.
Loved the food! Tasty and great portions. Service was great too. I had a G&T which was huge and strong. My partner had an Aperol spritz which was god too but I have docked a star as they need more than one white wine choice.
Is this weirdly Hoxton street's best kept secret?? The food is SOOOOO delicious. Proper satisfying to eat. Amazing huge tasty sandwiches for lunch menu, and every dish we had on the evening tapas menu was full character of flavour. Great portion sizes too.
Huge portions, traditional vibe. Meat was good quality and well cooked, sides were also excellent - a great find!
