Good atmosphere, a little bit packed if you stay in the tables for 2. Liked the King Tempura prawns and had the breaded pork curry that was ok. The menu has changed a bit in relation to the one that is currently in Zomato. The service was good and they stick the service charge in the final bill - just a heads up for those that are bothered with it.
After a long hunt for veggie okonomiyaki, i finally found some! Definitely did not disappoint. So many other dishes I want to try, so will defo be coming here again.
Very good quality/price ratio. Fish seemed fresh and the choice was ample. Definitely recommended for a good neighbourhood, affordable sushi (probably wouldn't cross town to eat here though). The vibe of the place was also very pleasant.
Tenshi is a Japanese restaurant in Islington where you can find from bento boxes, ramen soups and the popular sushi and sashimi. We went for a set of super fresh thick sashimi of tuna salmon and seabass and some rolls of maki sushi simple and delicious. With a pont of japanese beer and some edamame snacks we've paid £34
We needed something quick before going to a comedy show across the road. We decided upon this place because of its noodles and rice menu. I decided on the pumpkin croquette katsu curry. What it lacked in presentation it made up for in taste! The katsu curry put wagammas to shame. The croquettes were big and delightful too. Highly recommend this!
Love having lunch in this place! I tend to go for their set bento menu with pork katsu. It is very filling as it comes with rice, edamame, miso soup and gyoza. Service is pretty good and speedy (important for lunch!). The place is a bit small so sometimes it's difficult to get a seat straight away.
I was taken here for dinner as I was recommended to try the agadeshi tofu here. I was not disappointed!
The sushi here was delicious. I had the salmon and avocado hand roll and my boyfriend had the prawn hand roll. I took my time with the sushi and let the crispy skin on the tofu absorb the sauce! It was still just as tasty but make sure you eat it when it arrives :)
Would definitely come back here again but do note it is quite a small place so can get busy.
Unusual menu and fabbaru!. I like the lo-fi vibe of this place, nothing loud or flashy, just quietly and seriously good. It's also the only place I've eaten the Japanese equivalent of the night-out 'burger'. Ask your waitor/waitress about it as I'm afraid I cannot remember enough about to describe it in a way that would do it justice, suffice to say it was pleasure on a plate!
Delicious!. I went to tenshi for the 1st time this week and absolutely loved it! the food is reasonably priced and the sushi and sashimi delicious, i would highly recommend the tenshi roll!
Despite Angel having a large concentration of restaurants and eateries along Upper Street and Essex Road, there is not a single sushi bar north of City Road and Pentonville Road. Although we first saw Tenshi along Upper Street sometime back but for the lo
I came here for the first time the other day and I can safely say I'll be back again. Though the restaurant is (very) small, I didn't find the place overwhelming (but still, don't go with a group of people).
I ordered the Tofu Teriyaki Bento for £8.75, from the lunch menu, £2 more than the other mains dishes but definitely worth it. It's presented in a box with a variety of sides, such as dumplings and a Misa soup.
The Japanese decor adds to the intimacy of the place and the staff were friendly and quick to deliver the food.
It's located at the beginning of Upper Street, right next door to the Angel shopping centre and a 5 minute walk from Angel station.
I really like Tenshi, it's a nice authentic place and has great food. Their sushi are pretty good but I've especially liked their Gyudon and Chirashi sushi Donbury. They use great quality fish and their prices are totally reasonable.
On the weekend or in the evenings there is often a long line out the restaurant and you end up waiting a long time which is annoying, but in the end I'm happy waiting for good Japanese food! Also, the service is pretty quick so even if you've waited to get in, you can get your food pretty fast.
Tenshi means angel and since it's in the neighborhood it's a fitting name. I have been visiting this little place for years and I still do. It's very traditional japanese and the food is very good. Be it takoyaki, okonomiyaki or katsu don this place has most of the most traditional japanese dishes and to a great standard. I have to say it used to be better but it's still very high quality
I just stopped by here for a lightning fast dinner. Am dining on my own so selected a place on upper street where I can blend in without looking out of place if you see what I mean. Perfect choice. It's pretty early and downstairs already full. To eat I ordered chicken gyoza and cold soba noodles with mixed tempura. I'm pretty picky about gyoza and soba so feel totally justified in judging the entire menu based on these 2 dishes. The gyoza is a solid dish. Tender dough, piping hot and seared to perfection on one side as they should be. The noodle dish however turned out to actually be 80% tempura and 20% noodle. The tempura batter is fairly good in that it was light but tasted a tad bland. The soba are average but seemed higher in buckwheat content than some recent dissappointments. Staff friendly and attentive. Miso found it averaged out... Bonus mark for good gyoza!

Craving some Tempura, on very cold and rather windy winter evening in London, my friend N and I found ourselves at Tenshi – a Japanese restaurant in Angel,London. Guess we were guided there by our guardian angel given that Tenshi is Japanese for an Angel :)
To kick the hunger pangs coming in thick and fast , after we finally managed to get a table (it’s generally busy so better to book on the weekends), we started off with Nasu Dengaku which is Seared Aubergine with miso paste and sesame – absolutely delicious and very very morish,a portion of the inside out roll – rice on the outside comes in 6 pieces and disappears really quickly but the best starter was the soft shell crab in a delicious batter deep fried – you just eat the whole crab – no wasting any part of the crustacean – quite something considering we spend hours ploughing through a regular crab for example.
By now I have rather quickly downed my Aloe Vera drink , while N choose to have some Japanese Beer -Asahi – a smart choice I say and great company to her main Pumpkin Korroke Curry – Pumpkin croquettes with Japanese curry and rice-served in a very generous portion size as you can see.
While I choose the Katsudon – Deep Fried Pork cooked with egg on rice , admit the pork was a bit chewy but delicious all the same.
My friend N and I were meeting after a really long time and had loads to catch up on , so being seated in a tiny restaurant with hardly any space between tables I had my doubts. But I must say that the food was so marvellously tasty and the service so good, polite and quick I am going back for certain! So if you are around Angel and looking for a a good evening eating out on a budget – head to Tenshi for some cracking tempuras and decent wine and if you want to eat on a budget then skip the starters and alcohol and order one of the wholesome mains with a beer or a soft drink and keep your bill per head under £12, not bad for an evening out on a budget I say!
I ordered a takeaway teriyaki chicken with rice. generous quantities and good taste. Could have more sauce for the rice but was very tasty all the same.
The menu offers an impressive list of sushi of course, but also other dishes like chicken Teriyaki, the noodles, soups ... What delight all tastes, so even for the most difficult like me ... My Teriyaki Chicken was delicious and eating sushi at my table have said as much. For drinks the wine is very light but personally I recommend you an Asahi, the Japanese beer of choice (well that they export en masse anyway) but I advise you to take a Japanese lemonade. The taste is certainly a taste of lemonade so far nothing crazy crazy, but it's mostly the bottle that is worth seeing ... The cap is nothing more than a glass ball!
Price level is reasonable, if you do not eat like a horse, you can easily get away for less than £ 10 per person (excluding drinks service) which is quite reasonable. The staff and the setting are typically made in japan. Finally, as it is small enough I recommend the book, especially on weekends, or else you will have to arrive late for a table ...
Rare izakaya style Japanese restaurant provides home-feeling Japanese food, simple but comfortable. The taste might be slightly different on each visit, but is generally good.
Good for casual lunch/dinner with friends and family. Better to reserve a table on busy nights.
Food took a bit too long to arrive, but highly recommend their Ebi Fry curry. Takoyaki was alright, moist in the inside and most of it is flour. Tonpei Yaki looks better than it taste, the pork inside just wasn’t seasoned. Other than that everything else was good, would revisit.
We were surprised that this place only serves sushi on the weekends (we came on a weekday) but it was to our advantage as we got to enjoy the other things they serve on the menu!
We Absolutely loved our dinner here. All the food came out hot, perfectly prepared and cooked fresh. We had the ebi fry (crispy) aubergine with miso paste (tasty) and gyoza (pan fried) to start - highly recommended.
Their okonomiyaki is one of the best I’ve had.
The servers are kind but it’s a busy place so at times hard to get them but when they were with us they were gracious.
The place gets busy so it’s best to book ahead.
This Japanese restaurant exceeded my expectations in every way – from the delectable dishes to the impeccable service, it was an unforgettable dining experience. Highly recommended!
Real Authentic Japanese Izakaya. I would really like to try their Agedashi tofu but it was sold out.
We had the best Tebasaki (手羽先) in London so far and it's even better than the one I tried in Osaka/Kanazawa.
DEFINITELY GONNA COME AGAIN.
Had a lovely time at Tenshi and the food was amazing. So so tasty and good value for the price. Was very impressed
Been in the afternoon and was quite.
Nice atmosphere and good food.
Very good and tasty the donburi rice and the maki.
We spend 25 pound a head with a beer to share,2 maki,2 donburi and the pumpkin crocchette.
Delicious authentic Japanese food! The interior of the restaurant was also particularly awesome as it reminded me of my trip to Japan from a few years back.
It was a real shame that the sushi/sashimi selection was not available for lunches on a weekend as that would have definitely notched it to a 5-star review.
The staff also needed to be a little bit more attentive as we had to physically get up to ask for things.
Nevertheless, it's definitely worth a try if you like Japanese food!
This was honestly one of the best meals out I’ve ever had! The food was excellent and staff were extremely friendly. They put in a lot of effort to make us feel welcome and got everything spot on.
My only comment would be that one of the mains did take a while longer to come than the others, however this didn’t take away from our experience and we had a lovely night!
We ordered around 6 dishes for 3 of us and every single bite was gorgeous. The staff and service were excellent - they were friendly and happy to talk us through dishes we weren't familiar with, and make recommendations. Fast service. Great pricing (paid £25 each, including alcoholic drink, and we were stuffed). Clean plates all round.
got the vegetable okonomiyaki, pumpkin korroke curry, and green tea.
very nice & authentic! one of the few places that sell okonomiyaki :) just be awake that the menu they have online is a lot bigger than the menu you can actually choose from. unfortunately there were a few things we wanted to get, but they weren’t on the updated menu in the restaurant. service isn’t anything good for a 12.5% service charge. refillable green tea didn’t get refilled once. go it’s a small place, so make a reservation if you can.
Amazing food! Great value for the price. Would definitely recommend
Easily one of my favourite spots in London for an authentic Japanese set lunch! Lovely staff and efficient service. The food is fresh and delicious too. Had some cold tofu, miso, and gyoza today, followed by the lunch special (my dining partner had gyudon - a delicious beef on rice bowl - and I had one of my all time favourite - unagi bento - japanese style eel with rice and a set inclusive of salad, edamame, and radish). Very satisfied and will come here again in the near future - as always!
Very nice authentic food,recommended!

I decided to go fully vegan in a Japanese restaurant. Their seared aubergine and wakame salad are absolutely delicious. According to my friends the sushi was decent too according to my friends who used to live in Japan. A not so vegan update from my last visit: their unagi (eel) is scrumptious.
We did lunch takeaway, was surprisingly good. £10 a bento is quite reasonable, comes with rice, 2 big chunks of salmon or pork chop and miso soup. Will come back for proper meal to decide if it deserves 5-star.
