Loved it. Still fairly traditional as a pub and a lovely little outside space to sit in the sun
The Well and Bucket was the first pub we visited On Saturday the 17th for a big xmas jumper bar crawl. Class pub and brilliant staff! Very friendly/polite and a great selection of beers/ales/stouts! There was 16 of us and we were all served quickly and with a smile. Highly recommended pub! Thumbs up
Superb!great pub great food and friendly!!!!
Awesome service, lovely beers and the crab fries are to die for!
Amazing exaustive beer selection. get down to the 5Cc for some of the best speakeasy in London
Amazing food! One of my favourite places to eat and drink.
Good selection of beers lovely menu good fashioned London pub
Love it here. Cool staff, old style decor, great drinks, funky outdoor smoking area. What more could you want?!
Great cocktail bar hidden in this cool pub and very friendly staff. The espesso martini is awesome!
Great pub, love the decor, the food (jerk chicken slider was particularly good!) the service and most definitely, the little courtyard out the back :)
Well and Bucket was a Shoreditch pub that opened in 1818 and closed in 1989. Unlike many pubs which close down, however, this one came back to life.
The sliders on offer are also great (3 for £8.50) – I would recommend the oxtail chill cheese dog, jerk chicken, bbq pulled pork and fries with curry sauce. Good selection of craft beer and ales with a cocktail bar downstairs, which provides you with more room if you are in a large group.
The Well & Bucket is cosy. An open plan and punchy style boozer with cool folk. Normally it can be filled to the rafters, but the quiet month of January has been a treat. You get a seat, you take your time to enjoy the drink and a super food menu! They do fresh king prawns which is literally the best i have tasted in London this far. Other delights include a proper seafood platter, mini burgers, chips with gravy and much more. The bar is an island and set in the middle is a mountain of glass bottles lit up with lights like a drinks paradise. The staff are friendly, its all very affordable and it is all perfectly framed by a cool soundtrack of old and new tunes. A delight.
This was a pleasant discovery I have to say. The place has nice interiors and good vibe. It isnt too expensive and if you re with a big group of people they have some rooms downstairs. Definitely going back!

To beer or not to beer
Great Pub . Good Environment
Nice service done by a bar in the center
There's also another bar, more intimate, down stairs and some space outside if you want to have a cigarette and a talk

I'd been to the Well and Bucket once on a Friday night but I felt like it didn't give an accurate picture of the pub so I decided to go back again before writing about it. So this is a tale of two visits.
The first time
I thought we might have a drink or two at the Crown and Shuttle but in fact, after buying our Field Day tickets from the Owl and the Pussycat (so excited!) we decided to try out the new Well and Bucket at the top of Brick Lane.
This is quite a large pub capitalising on the trend for craft beers. It looks like it would have a large beer garden at the back in which to enjoy them but, in fact, all it basically has is a little patio for people to cram into to smoke.
The inside is impressive though and I think I would like this pub if I went to it on a weekend. On a Friday night it was packed and packed full of the people who work around there who I'm rather pleased aren't so prevalent on the weekends. O! where were the hipsters?
Downstairs was another world (and a world I didn't venture into in the end) which is where the cocktails are served. This was a darker, more intimate and plush area. It looks like it needs exploring further from me.
The second time
I was rather worried we'd be in for a repeat performance as the sun was blazing and I thought surely there would be loads of people wanting to have a pint in the sun. But it wasn't like that, perhaps because there isn't much of a beer garden to speak of. And I did like it more than the last time we were there. We sat in a corner booth and the place had a much more relaxed, less frenetic atmosphere. It felt more like a proper pub. We marveled at the number of beers on the menu, or should I say the prices. One beer was 20 pounds! But, I should point out that it was a 75 cl bottle and almost as strong in percentage as a normal wine, so through those lenses the prices seemed quite reasonable.
I ordered a house white which was very pleasant - a chenin blanc I believe, it had a little depth and fruitiness to it. And wasn't badly priced at 5.50 for a 175 ml.
We were heading off to Feast (my third time and just as good as the others) so we didn't try anything on the food menu. Just another excuse to go back.
I love the mix of traditional pub and macabre graffiti they have covering the walls, it's all a bit Edgar Allan Poe/Dia de los Muertos, which I get a kick out of.
My friends and me made lunch in this place as we decided to go out together considering that the weather was finally good.
We shared two seafood platter with half lobster, King prawns and other stuff. Very tasty and enriching but not convinced it deserved an £28 price tag.
By contrast the crab salad my friend said was almost sublime, just a little too salty to achieve perfection. All dishes were beautifully presented but as I said something was missing to achieve the perfection.
Overall the bill for all we ordered (around 5 courses) was over £100. But this place deserves a try. A good chunk of that money was paying for the the ambience that, in my opinion, was lovely.
A lively yet laid back pub with great drinks and service
The lively Well and Bucket can be found situated at the top of Brick Lane in Shoreditch. It’s buzzing and animated atmosphere makes it an exciting place to spend your Saturday night. The delicious bar food, good vibes, and drinks make it the perfect place to meet a group of friends any night of the week, either in their spacious courtyard, or at a table inside. The décor indoors is full of lots of great artwork, and the island bar that is set right in the centre makes the task of getting a drink at busy times a bit easier, as you are able to access the bar tenders from a full 360 degrees.
My evening was spent drinking local craft beers, which I highly recommend. And as always, after a few drinks we began to get a bit peckish. The Well and Bucket however, does not serve your usual pub food. Starting off with an assortment of mixed oysters, which made a lovely change from steak and chips. We then moved on to Jerk Chicken sliders, a nice option for sharing and also a very reasonable price at 8.50 for three. However they lacked flavour and filling. For something so simple it could have been done a bit better. Though, its not all bad, the sliders were complemented well with some fries which were well presented and tasty. The service is friendly and relaxed, whilst still remaining professional. To top this off the music is great. All in all it was a fun place to go for a Saturday night and I could almost consider this place as my 'local'.
Located in Shoreditch just up the end of Brick Lane this bar is a great place to spend the evening drinking exceptional craft beers and eating very appealing bar food.
We came to meet a group of friends on a Saturday night, so naturally like the rest of Shoreditch the place was packed to the brim. The interior is really nice with the bar in the centre of the room making for quick service and easy to get drinks. The décor is awesome I loved the huge art on the walls, modern and juxtaposed with the old fashioned style of the bar. Out the back there is a great garden bar complete with heaters for the winter months and some cover from the rain.
The night was spent drinking The Kernal, a great local craft beer worthy of trying. The pale ale is particularly good. After a few beers there is nothing better than some pub food so we took a look at the menu. Typical pub food it was not! Sliders with fillings such as mackerel and pulled pork, oysters in a variety of ways and at least five different types of fries! We ordered the jerk chicken sliders, which were delicious, the chicken spicy and not overcooked and some chilli fries, which were AMAZING! Three sliders for 8.50 isn’t bad and the rest of the menu looked reasonably priced. Our friends had ordered a large selection of the oysters earlier and said they too were fantastic.
Will definitely be back!
The Well and Bucket is one of those places that you will have passed countless times but never popped in. Located just along from brewdog, opposite the cat cafe.
Really nice pub with a decent sized garden. They serve a whole host of beers however the gem on the menu is the Kernal IPA citra. I believe it to be one of the finest Indian Pale Ale's you can get your hands on in London. At 6.9% its got strength behind it and a hoppy, malty sweetness about it, obviously with notes of citrus fruits all over it. There is also bad seed brewery's saison on tap, a pub that clearly labours over its beer collection.
I've heard the food to be really good, the sliders looked amazing, so I will be heading back to eat for sure.
Shoreditch has the vibe for craft beer lovers here- a dark indoors, an exquisite selection of beers and a bonus garden space. you can also try the extraodinary oyster pairing. I am in love with the decor in this venue, not gloomy dark but has an eery feeling : my favourite pieces on the wall are in the photos attached.
Nice casual pub for drinks and food. We went on a Friday evening and sat in the sun on the benches at the front, we had Aperol, fish&chips and a Caesar salad which were all delicious. I was on crutches at the time and the toilets are down steep stairs so not great for people with accessibility requirements. *EDIT* There is a disabled toilet available.
Popped in for an afternoon pint for the first time in years and was thrilled to find that not much had changed. Friendly professional welcome and service, airy cool space on a hot day, good beer - what more to ask. Good to see a group doing tequila mid-afternoon.
Amazing place! Lovely hidden backyard.
Unfortunately no cash accepted.
£11.76 for a pint of Camden Hells and skin on fries. Considering the spot is a great price!
I'll definitely come back
I've been to this pub a few times. It's one of my favourite pubs to go to in East London. The atmosphere is lovely, the staff are really friendly. If you wanna go on a date, see friends or just sit down and read this is the place for you 🙂
Fantastic pub and bar located just off Brick Lane.
Came for a quick drink on Bank Holiday Monday, was very empty but staff were very friendly and welcoming.
They have an underground cocktail bar in the evenings which looks great.
Nice selection of drinks on offer in addition to the regular stuff. Highly recommend the margarita!

🍺 £6.60 Neck Oil
❤️ An East London gem with the most amazing tiled interior.
.
Head east out of Shoreditch on Bethnal Green Road and you’ll find The Well & Bucket. Shoreditch High Street station is a five minute walk away.
.
This pub started life in 1818 and meandered through history until 1989 when it closed. It then went through a period as a restaurant and also a leather wholesaler’s. Luckily In 2013 it somehow was reinstated as a pub, there is hope for is all.
.
At the centre of the pub is a true 100% island bar which has a beautiful copper surface. On the walls are wonderful glazed Victorian tiles, some are missing which may have happened when this pub was dormant but the majority have managed to survive. There are also some large traditional mirrors which give this place a contemporary Victorian feel.
.
The beer choice was full of local London brews but no cask was available, I had a pint of Neck Oil which was good but a wee bit pricey. There is plenty of grub on offer, fish & chips costs £17. If you fancy a Long Island Ice Tea or a Negroni, why not try out the basement cocktail bar.
.
I was on a Saturday crawl with my brother and we arrived here around midday. There were a few other customers in and the atmosphere was one of calm. The service was good, we were served by a nice fella who was busy prepping the pub for the day’s trade.
.
The @wellandbucket thankfully was saved over 25 years ago when too many of its neighbours were lost forever. I can’t imagine what would of happened to the tiles had this pub not survived. Today it thrives, definitely worth a visit this one, come show this pub some love.

Nice place to go and let your worries go away. I happy to see they have some nice pub food on the menu. I wasn't going to stay long but I would really like to try their Smash Burger. Next time I'm in the area I will need to try it out. The staff is very friendly.
Only one pale ale on tap but it was delicious! Always a pleasure - will have an oyster or two next time
Great pub! At a party at the little bar down stairs recently - great night. Staff were all really welcoming and friendly
Reserved a table for a friend's birthday. Team were really friendly and helpful. Great vibe in the pub as always.
A pub and Oyster House on the east of Shoreditch. Very pleasant with a cold pint of Hell's. Quirky decor with a shabby post industrial feel. An enjoyable visit. The menu here is for seafood lovers, no surprise for an oyster bar I guess. It does look tempting.
Had a brilliant night at the Well & Bucket, great atmosphere & the staff were delightful. Also the cocktail bar downstairs was a wonderful surprise!
I love this east end pub. It feels like an escape from the busy Bethnal Green road and you’re transported into a classic boozer with rustic decor and cosy corners to lose a few hours in. Sit on the street or tuck yourself away in the garden under a heatlamp and overhanging foliage with festoon lighting. Grab a booth for a hearty Sunday lunch or sit under gigantic, vintage mirrors with old fashioned typography offering oysters (none on the menu sadly) but giving you a glimpse of the pubs past (it was once an oyster house). Huge adulterated portraits adorn the wall and the centralised bar displays many varieties of spirit under amber lighting. The Long Island iced tea is one of the best I’ve had. Come here for friendly catch ups, bloody Mary’s and a Sunday well spent.
Great pub - really friendly service, great atmosphere and there was a fab outdoor area where we managed to get a seat quite late in the evening. Deffo worth popping in if you're looking for somewhere to drink
Great pub - and really good food too! There was a problem with ours and they gave us a fresh dish with no fuss. They look after you in there! Good for a date!
This is hands down one of the best pubs in London.
The craft beer selection is really good and at a very fair price.
The place is just beautiful, clean toilets. Nice music, and nice atmosphere. Service is fast and always good lager suggestions. Would definitely recommend this place.
Very affordable for the area with an incredible beer selection. Had a peach sour that was wow. Great bar bites that were also affordable; we got a bunch and some sides to share with the table. Also the place was full of sexy people on a Thursday afternoon... Vibe and decor couldn't have really been better. Well pleased and we will be back 100%.
This place is fantastic! Friendly staff, very affordable and a great range of beers and spirits. The place was busy the whole time we were there but it never felt rushed or stressful. The food was really tasty and we didn't have ro wait long. Love the decor, too. Wish were staying longer in London so we could come again!
