Reviews Thanh Binh

I don't often venture to Camden Town but was persuaded to by my boyfriend following good things he has heard about Thanh Binh.

The restaurant itself looks small and cosy from the outside but once you enter you'll see it leads to another huge room, so don't be put off entering if you see it looks busy from the window! The decor is standard and very similar to other Vietnamese restaurants. Notably, the owner is a vibrant woman greeting and chatting to diners, creating a warm and friendly ambience.

Now the important part.. the food! We ordered bun thit nuong (chargrilled pork) and weren't disappointed! The portion was a decent size for the price and the pork beautifully marinated. However, we were a tad disappointed with our bun bo hue. Being Vietnamese, we noticed that there were some ingredients missing from the dish and the spice wasn't as strong as we had hoped (missing that kick)! We acknowledge that Thanh Binh may have altered the recipe to suit the Westerner's tastebuds and the dish in general was nice, just not traditional version of bun bo hue.

Would we return? Undecided.

This place is a serious gem and honestly the best Vietnamese food in this part of London. The restaurant is spotless, the service impeccable and the prices phenomenal. It's a great place to go if you re headed for a great night out in Camden. The Vit Chay Nuong is really good, and I have had it a couple of times. It's strange that Camden doesn't have any more places like this anymore it used to be full of them this seems to be one of the few survivors in an area that s becoming increasingly commercial.

Among the latest upcoming restaurants and 'pop-ups' that you just have to get to within the next week otherwise you are just not 'on trend', there are those places that have remained stable and trustworthy for a while, . Thanh Binh is one of those (hell it's not even on twitter, heaven forbid!). I often take visitors to when around Camden, although I'm not sure if this is just the lack of choice near the Market that's guaranteed not to get a dodgy stomach from. It's a great little vietnamese, very modest interior and fantastic value, the food always arrives reasonably quickly although occasionally indifferent service.

Their menu is very extensive, with over 16 starters alone it's easy to feel a bit overwhelmed of what to choice. Some are very hit and miss. Definitely worth trying is the Cua Lot (Soft shell crab; £8.50) or Cua Muc (crispy squid; £5.50). Unlike any standard chewy calamari I've had, these are a pure delight, could eat a few dishes of these alone. These are very simple dishes, but they are done so well the batter crispy and delicate, and the garlic and chilli adding the burst of flavours. The Goi Cuon (vietnamese summer rolls) are a fresh, healthy starter but fall a bit flat in terms of flavour even with extra fish sauce.

The Pho here, like the Pho chain, comes with a side dish of bean sprouts, chili, mint and coriander. The broth is beautifully flavoursome. They equally do justice to meat and fish, Bo cho and ca kho (£7) to are slow stewed dish served in a flaming clay pot, adding a bit of theatre to the meal
However, the noodle salads are quite bland, although Bún Cha La Lót (grilled beef in wild betel leaf; £7) is fantastic, I can nearly brush aside the fact the vermicilli is near cold.

However, the service is a bit of a let down, a lot of small restaurants like this are very welcoming, nothing too much of a problem. I've had occasions where I've been moved to the back area of the restaurant to accomadate a larger group. Then after waiting a while to pay, I left the money on the table (isn't this common practice?) was chased down the road by the owner. It's more apathetic than nasty though, and I will still keep coming here as the food is great and cheap.

Outstanding fresh Vietnamese food in Camden. Everything we ordered was so tasty and fresh. We even ordered more food because it was so good. I tried the veggie spring rolls, hot spicy rice with tofu and veg, salt pepper tofu, Vietnamese iced coffee and homemade lemonade. Everything was great and it seems like a family run restaurant which was very nice to see.

My favourite Vietnamese in town by FAR! Amazingly fresh and delicious food. Spicy Veg + Tofu Pho is the best in NW, has been for time. Friendly staff, the service is delightful as always.

great authentic, cozy, and casual viet place. i strongly recommend the homemade lemonade, its delicious and reminds me of how my grandpa used to make it for me back in vietnam! - food: almost just like how its made in my viet household! portions are generous, very flavourful. the bun bo hue pho was delicious and im very happy they use the correct pho noodles -- vermicelli! curry and goi cuon is also nice - service: workers/owners are lovely. quick service as well. they tended to leave us alone for the most part, but were still attentive and came over when we needed. - atmosphere: soft traditional viet music playing, cozy and relaxing restaurant, good for a conversation over tea or lunch. good escape from the hustle and bustle of the city. this is a hidden gem especially if youre looking for good food and quick service at a great value.

Pros + The food tastes good (it is well presented and of generous portions), at a fair price and arrives from the kitchen quickly. + The service isnt pushy, seated us promptly and added no hidden fees to our bill. Room for improvement + The atmosphere is where they let themselves down. Decoration is minimal, no mood music is played and the temperature is low. The staff don't wear uniforms so isn't immediately obvious who works there.

Cozy place, can come at day time (or weekend) without booking in advance. Food is great & portion is big with reasonable price, no service charge. Bia Saigon + Vietnamese music here makes me feel like home. This is my second time here, definitely gonna be back!

I really enjoyed going for dinner at Thanh Binh yesterday. I ordered the tofu veg stir fry and it was good. As you can see, the portions are generous and the waiter even offered a Tupperware for the leftovers. I was very surprised at how patient the staff were as me and my friend overstayed a little bit. Thank you for your kindness.
