This is going to be our new fave place!
Love the original pub feel, and the ballroom is the perfect club venue. Lovely, grown up crowd & friendly staff. See ya soon.
Love this place. Has lots going on. They have improved the menu and offer good vegetarian and vegan options now. The sort of pub you can wander into on yoyr own and enjoy a quiet drink with a book, or take a group of rowdy mates to. A good mix of people, a friendly vibe and a relaxing ambience.
My only criticism would be that some of the bar staff could do with a bit of customer service training....
Consistently great selection / range of beers both at the pumps, in bottles and cans. The knowledgeable staff can advise on beer styles, and also advise you if what you are about to order is especially expensive - something I have appreciated more than once!
On the food front I would like to see more veggie choices, but there are always a couple of options, including a burger,
Consider myself lucky to have this as my local.
best pub in leytonstone by far great beers food and service too
I was strolling down Leytonstone high road looking for a place to eat. Glad I have found this pub. Did not feel very adventurous so went for the burger, it was delicious! The highlight for me, though, was the service; so friendly and helpful. (A lovely member of staff even wrapped up another burger to take away - hope I'm not getting anyone in trouble!). Love the decor too. Huge selection of beers, must come back for the deckchair movie festival and to try some of the craft beers on offer.
We had roast dinners beautifully cooked and lots of meat. I had lovely lean succulent pork and my friend had beef. Really good friendly service and a great atmosphere. The red lion never disappoints!
The staff is caring and professional, also patient. Made my day, which seemed to be spoilt, thanks.

Such a great find. Amazing craft beer selection, good staff knowledge. The best food and good doggie and baby spotting!!
My favourite pub in London, so lucky to be able to call this my local. Their beer list is absolutely incredible, one of the biggest selections I've seen. The space is amazing and their Sunday Roast is simply legendary. Save some space for pudding!
The Red Lion is a great spot for a delicious Sunday lunch. With lots of space in their airy, large room it's a fun place to meet and mingle. For Sunday lunch they offer a range of meats and vegetarian options, all served with all the trimmings. Come hungry, because portions are generous.
The wine list is solid, and the range of excellent ales and craft beers adds even more to a visit. Well worth a stop when you're in the Leyton/Leytonstone area.
When my friend Matt told me that there was a fantastic pub with great food and atmosphere just a stone's throw from Leytonstone station, I was skeptical. But he was right: The Red Lion's street art adorned courtyard and spacious, warehouse-like interior made us feel as though we'd stepped into one of East London's coolest pubs.
A glass of Côte du Rhone and steak onglet later (with the most fantastic hand-cut chips, might I add), we were discussing art, home ownership, and other usually boring grown-up topics with much merriment and glee.
While I was left disappointed by my limp 'side salad' - which consisted of a handful of watercress - the steak and chips made up for it. And staff are friendly and nice: profusely apologizing for running out of lamb (my first choice, which went to my husband instead, because I'm nice like that), they recommended other items on the menu with enthusiasm and knowledge.
Definitely swing by in the summer - even a little sprinkling of rain couldn't put us off our outdoor seats.
Previously a grungy South African bar the Red Lion has certainly had a makeover. The position of the bar remains, but it now has a vintage retro feel; lots of old school crockery and mis-matched lampshades. Electrics and H&S – which we are sticklers for (we won’t go into our numerous ‘you’ve blocked the fire door’ conversations) are bang up-to-date so we could breathe easy and enjoy the East End ambiance. It was an eclectic mix, there was a 40th birthday party ordering copious bottles of something fizzy to accompany a rather inviting buffet in one corner, and locals with dogs in another area mingling with trendy Dalstonites who seemed to have crossed the border to sample the local ales.
I think they have the potential for really great food, but they just miss the mark in some respects. A little more attention to detail on the menu could get them there though. For instance, their pulled pork burger could be served in a brioche bun, but instead it's served on a cheap white sesame, which lowers the overall taste in my opinion. The skin on chips are really nice though and the staff all seem attentive and friendly.
Sunday lunch is sooo tasty and fab value!
We had been to the 'Luna Lounge'' but not enjoyed it, as we needed to catch up and it was too loud. We moved on to the 'Red Lion'. I loved the comfy sofas and the atmosphere was chilled but with a good vibe. It was a Saturday and sport was happening on a TV screen somewhere.
One of the better pubs the Leyton/Leytonstone area. Only been for Sunday Lunch but atmosphere was comfortable and relaxed. Could have spent all day there.
Had Beef roast, good meat (and generous) also the red cabbage was great. Spuds could have been more crisp and gravy could of had more power. Also had double cheese burger, cauliflower harrissa hummus, leek/cauliflower bake, pardon peppers, sausage roll. Sausage roll was the highlight. Everything else was good pub food but to take it to the next level could have done with everything being amped up a bit on the flavour.
Very good prices on wine and local ales.
1. Early afternoons at weekends: a swarm of lower middle class, ‘well behaved’, but staid individuals with baby buggies (sadly, including occupants) descend.
By the end of their ‘sessions’, one can almost imagine the kids being decanted from the pushchair only to be replaced by one of the quaffing parents, the other one being tasked with pushing them home.
2. The remainder of the time: a well-ordered, no-nonsense place. The staff are quite welcoming and efficient. I have never attended a live music event, but I hear that they are good.
Food prices seem a bit pricey to me. Drinks are, of course, much more expensive than Wetherspoon’s, but then again, I suppose it’s a choice between a nice, calm, pleasant venue (i.e., here) or one that resembles, at times, a night shelter.
There are no mirrors in the Gents- just as well considering the state of the men I’ve seen here.
Very nice hotel, with a pub attached to it. There is live music in the evening from time to time. The location is a little bit far from the center, but is located close to a metro station, so one could get along easily.
The service was very kind, we informed them that we are arriving in the middle of the night and they waited especially for us.
The place looks very old and dull from outside but the moment you enter you can feel a country side pub vibe and the staff are very friendly. Also there are games at late hours to engage the public and above all lovely live music.
I had a good Sunday roast with my family here today. It is a family friendly pub and spacious enough that you don't hear what the other people are talking about. The waiters and waitresses are also friendly and accommodating. We will definitely come back here again.
We didn't stay here, but went for Sunday roast and it was so good! More than enough food.
Decent pub with a range of beers and plenty of seating. I wish I had this kind of pub near me.
Another fantastic night in a East and pub that I have gone to every time I've been in Leytonstone I love it !
Great place for casual drink and a party.
Millie behind the bar is the best looking and most accurate bartender I’ve ever known
