This place is the best kept secret in London - I don't know why queues don't stretch round the block in the evenings. I suppose its not the smartest place to dine but the food is sublime - really really tasty indian home cooking.
You can see most of the menu laid out in the buffet cabinets, which is a real help when it comes to choosing. My personal favourites are the lamb & potato, ginger chicken, methi lamb, any biryani, yellow channa dahl, mixed veg curry - mild & tasty. They do an amazing butter paratha - you just don't know how good this can be - try the potato stuffed version. Also great fluffy Naans & Chapatis - don't bother with rice, eat with your fingers.   At weekends the Nihari and Paya are for real indian gourmets.

Amazing Food, Value for money ... So glad I found this Restaurant ... Damn Delicious Indian Food! One of the oldest Indian Restaurants in Balham - London and still rocking! Luckily its close to my Home in London, so a visit here every day way to home their Thali Deal  6punds (two curries one rice and roti). The Dal/ Chicken Tikka/ Saag Ghost/ Ginger Chicken/ Gulab Jaman   is absolutely gorgeous and how you would eat in Punjab.   If you have a craving for Good Indian/Pakistani Punjabi Food in London, go visit, no questions Menu number 42-Paya  and 43- Nihari weekend Breakfast is outstanding.

They say never judge a book by its cover, The food was full of flavour the 10 people I took to eat here all enjoyed the food and they are some fussy eaters. I get so bored of going to places where they just cook the stock standard bland food. it was surprisingly flavoursome. I loved the peshwari naan with the desi chai!!! Defo will be coming back again.

If Holy Cow is Selfridges, then Punjab House is a cash and carry on the outskirts of Watford. Their imaginative tinsel decorations stay up all year round, the restaurant is typically empty and the lighting would make a prison look like an artist’s studio.

I've eaten at Punjab House quite a few times as I work nearby and I find it a good place to drop in for a quality Indian at lunchtime without breaking the bank - too much.

I find the manager charming, smiley and always helpful.  Most of the clientele I see eating there are Asians from the local community, which I regard as a good sign.

Both my brother and I enjoyed the Chicken Tikka Roll in Nan Bread with salad which we thought was a bargan at about £3.00.  My favorite dish though is the Vegetable Vindaloo which they cook for me from the daily selection of vegetable dishes along with some chilies and other hot spices.  I like hot food and after a few visits when they got to know me and realised I'm not just another white man who asks for 'hot' but really wants a Korma, they make my Vindaloo perfectly, just the way I like.  I really enjoy the customer service at the Punjab House and for £7.00 along with a fresh salad, I'm a happy and full bunny :-)

As I reviewed the score I'd given the Punjab House I wondered why I hadn't given it 5 out of 5.  The only reason I could think is that it more of an Indian cafe rather than a restaurant.  I love it and I think the food and service is 5 out of 5, however, I'd go to a restaurant for a posh night out or a celebration.

And yes, for anyone who's seen my previous review, the Punjab House have never raised so much as an eyebrow when I've asked for a glass of tap water :-)

Enjoy!

Was pleasantly surprised! I orders via uber eats. Thoroughly recommend the biryani - absolutely delicious . Not so much the seekh kebab which was rubbery on this occasion . Despite this I'd still visit again .

Good price and great food. A solid range of freshly made dishes, and the best breads and sides around by a mile. The samosas and breads are a treat, and they have curries to suit all tastes. We have a hot spice intolerant and medium spice fan in the house, and this place caters to us and to the fans of the hotter end of things. Delicious all round and a good price compared to the vast majority of local takeaway options. They are well worth a visit.

Love this place! Really good home cooked food. My family have been buying samosas from Punjab House for over two decades. They are well worth trying, especially as the pastry is made by hand. My personal favourite is the chicken samosa : )

Overall: Great tasting, freshly made food, decent price and good service! Would definitely recommend and will likely become a regular! Went there on Saturday morning for some halwa Puri. Have not tried other things on the menu but looking forward to it. Environment: somehow felt cosier than what the pictures portrayed even though it was exactly as how the pictures are. Food: we ordered 2 portions of halwa puri and received 3 puris each with large portions of halwa (which was a sweet buttery semolina pudding) and chole (potato and chickpea curry) and some mango pickles. The food was clearly freshly made and oh so delicious! Service: friendly service Price: £13 for the 2 large portions of halwa puri. We couldn’t even finish it and had to take some home!

Best Pakistani food ever! Authentic homemade and delicious as always. Really kind and friendly staff. We discovered it when we lived around the corner in Balham, since then we have moved north but always try and pop down for the delicious biryani and aloo paratha whenever in London. So much choice to pick from, excellent quality & very very reasonable prices. We also love what they have done with the place, it has an inviting homely cosy feel to it. You can tell the family have poured their heart in their food & space. Really surprised to see any negative reviews at all especially regarding pricing — maybe peeps need to look into inflation & annual retail price index. A meal for 2 under £15 for such good quality food is amazing! All the best from us, Zara & James

The best Methi Chicken I've had anywhere. Everything else is good too. Great chapatis. Also great vegetable dishes. I just wish they'd heat the food up naturally as I'm not a fan of microwaves. Very rich, tasty food.

Some of the best Indian/Pakistani Takeaway in the area. They do have a few tables to eat in too. Fantastic quality and very tasty food, definitely recommend the kebab roll in chapati for a quick bite. Prices are reasonable too

My sister ordered Halwa Poori for me from Canada on Rakhi (an Indian festival to celebrate the bond between brother and sister). She chose Punjab House to place the order and that was a wonderful decision! Not only was the Halwa, poori and chole delicious, I also discovered this amazing place. Will order and try out the other dishes soon.

This family run restaurant/takeout is not to be missed, it has remained truly the best authentic homemade Punjabi food for decades. We had another outstanding takeout tonight including the methi chicken and beautifully made roti...yummy!!

Fantastic Punjabi breakfast, always made to the same high standard. As close to "mum's home cooking" as you can find. Halwa puree, chana and desi omelette - perfect weekend treat after a long hard week 👌🏽
