Viet Grill was my first Vietnamese culinary experience. I ordered the cha la lot and the Mekong catfish clay pot with jasmine rice. Oh boy! What a tease to your tastebuds. This is Asian food that uplifts your soul.
The interiors and exteriors are such a stand out on the street. Pretty little place, ideal for couples and groups alike. Service was impeccable, even when the restaurant got crowded.
Ambience: Good
Food/Drinks: Very Good
Service: Very Good
Value for money: Very Good
My Recommendation: cha la lot

On the Kingsland Road strip, I don't visit Viet Grill often despite the food being excellent.  It is more expensive than some of the other spots and you can't bring your own wine.  It's more civilized looking than a lot of the other Vietnamese restaurants in the area, so suitable for bringing a date.  However, be warned that acoustics are not great, so it is very noisy when crowded.

My colleague and I both ordered pho but started with a shared dish of chilli salt and pepper squid.  A smallish portion but perfectly exquisite.  Great light texture, tentacles still beautiful, and perfectly seasoned.   I preferred my companion's classic pho to my Saigon sate pho which was a novelty with peanut and chilli in the broth.  We were both disappointed that the ox cheek pho is no longer on the menu as it had an incredibly powerful broth.   In fact, the whole purpose of deviating to Viet Grill was to order the ox cheek pho.

The pho comes with the veg already mixed into the broth, instead of on the side.  Their beef broth is considerably better than average for the strip, but I prefer my pho served in the classical fashion with bean sprouts and a selection of fresh herbs on the side that can be customized.  Also there were no accompanying lime wedges.

With a bottle of house red at £20, dinner for two was £57 including service, which is higher than average for Kingsland Road.

Had a wonderful meal here. The place was seriously buzzing when we arrived. Each dish was excellent, could hardly fault one, and several reached lofty heights. Service was excellent. Brisk, efficient and most affable. Recommended.

I decided to go back to Viet Grill as I found the food here is pretty authentic. We get really good Asian food back home in Sydney so I do compare the quality we get here in London. This second visit I decided to test their Vietnamese authenticity by ordering Pho. I was really impressed! The flavour is definitely there, just wished it came with a little more noodles but overall I'm happy 😊 I've found a go to Vietnamese place in my local area.

Really delicious food, tastes fresh. Pho is a generous portion, however expected at an average price of £10! there is a downstairs too! Cocktails are maybe a 3/5.

A must have at any Vietnamese restaurant is the Banh xeo, a wafer thin pancake, folded in half crammed with prawns, chicken, and mixed herbs. It’s engineered to eat in one-bit mouthful with the lettuce provided.

The seafood platter is all the seafood dishes from the chilli salt & pepper section, squid, soft shell crab, and Ecuador prawns. Insanely addicted simple ingredients dusted in batter deep fried until you have the perfect crunch, and seasoned with chilli salt and pepper with semi cooked onion slices, spring onions and chilli’s.

The lucky dip ice creams. Developed and made with Gelupo you’re onto a winner. You never know what flavour you end up with; a mix of three is scooped into a tall glass.

Delicious Vietnamese. Being very much into different Asian fusions and after reading seval reviews about Vietnamese places in London, I picked "Viet Grill" for a saturday late afternoon meal. Three of us and no reservation, the place was already buzzy and vibrant but we were promptly offered a table downstairs, Viet Grill looks much smarter than all other Vietnamese along Kingsland Road. In order to taste as many dishes as possible we decided to order five different starters and two mains and that did not disappoint. Despite Vietnamese being a sophisticated cuisine, everything just looked and tasted fresh and authentic, service was also friendly and fast. Will definately go back for more in the near future! Recommended.

I get the feeling they weren't too pleased to have us at Viet Grill. For starters, we hadn't booked. Second, we *sigh* had so many bags with us. Third, we didn't know what we wanted to eat before we sat down. And from then on we certainly lacked a ruthless efficiency in our ordering, consuming, paying and leaving. Yep, they run a tight ship at the Viet Grill, there's a definite conveyor belt vibe in place, and we were ushered fast down the road to l' addition . I'm not a fan of the hassle and hustle, but last night's abundance of waiters had it down to a fine art. Barely a dish stayed on the table long enough to finish, cutlery vanished in a puff of aftershave, faces appeared left and right to bother me mid sentence and snatch morsels like harpies taking the crumbs of (yes, I'm going there) Phineas. One pair of young men seemed to be running laps round us and the fish tank, giggling and smiling at each other like Benny Hill and a broad. It was like eat

I've spent most of February dreary craving the clean spicy notes of South East Asian cuisine. Partly because I've been a bit ill, partly due to a (slightly unusual) craving for healthier food and mainly because when done really well it's bloody lovely. All things considered then, it was inevitable I was going to end up on the bottom end of Kingsland Road at some point. Home to a concentrated community of Vietnamese expats along with the shops and particularly the restaurants that support them.

We went to this place looking for a vietnamese restaurant to luch after visiting the Columbia Road flower market (such a beautiful place to visit).
If the visual impact of this place scared us because  we immediately thought it was going to be really expensive, after looking at the menu we knew it was not going to be so.

This place is really beautiful and with a cozy enviromment, well decorated by the wallpaper and the lamps. The staff is really nice and there is wifi signal.

We ordered two special luch menus, wich inclueded a starter and a main course for only 10 £, and a pho dish (for 3 people, but we tasted everything from each others dishes). For the luch menus we asked for the vietnamese spring rolls (really delicious and crunchy), the aubergine with pork (really good as well) for starters and the pork belly and vietnamese curry for main dishes. I loved my pork belly, as well as everyone at the table, and the vietnamese curry, although i don't know if a could eat it as a whole dish because it was a bit spicy.

Best for... a date!

I'm not immune to the charms of Kingsland Road. There's something about Vietnamese cuisine for each season isn't there?

In the dead of winter there is the wonder of Pho, which warms the heart and the body and cures any fleeting cold (for me at least).

And in the summer, translucent salad rolls dunk in nuoc cham sauce, banh mi baguettes filled to the brim with pork belly or fish cakes and pickled vegetables, salads fragrant with lemongrass and coriander!

I'm getting sidetracked.

But there is all this and more at Viet Grill and unlike it's no-frills counterparts dotted along the road (which I visit more often) its menu is a little less affordable but its ambience and decor more than compensate for that. It's a different experience, one to bring a date rather than catch up with mates.

I had the BBQ Pork Tenderloin with Rice Vermicelli and crispy pork spring rolls, served at room temperature and it was delicious.

The restaurant was not too noisy, the staff was not intrusive and the wine carafes are well-priced. So, get flirting!

Kingsland Road is home to a cluster of Vietnamese restaurants and after an introduction to Vietnamese food from Miss Chu's Tuckshop, we decided that Vietnamese food would hit the spot. Viet Grill was the first restaurant we came across and lured in by its colourful banana leaf wall murals, we ducked in.

While we were contemplating the rather extensive menu (so many delicious sounding choices), we decided on our drinks, or rather, drink. Instead of a bottle of wine or a few bottles of beer each, we decided to order the Vietnamese Party Punch to share. With Appleton VX, Havana 3 & 7, Barcadi, Mango juice, it's described as "a lot of alcohol". Even with the warning on the menu, the waitress did still warn us that it was 'a lot'. Undaunted, we ordered it anyway.

It wasn't the monster they made it out to be, it was maybe the equivalent of two strong cocktails each and we were eating, so it didn't knock us out or anything. It's a good choice if you're having a lazy afternoon with a friend or partner and don't have anywhere else to be.

To start we shared the salmon and avocado summer rolls. Unlike other summer rolls I've had, these ones didn't have noodles in, just salmon, avocado and salad leaves. I'm unsure what the sauce was, it says on the menu it was served with nuoc cham or peanut sauce. If it was the peanut sauce, it had an overwhelming hit of what I assume was something like horseradish/wasabi. Whatever it was, the rolls were the perfect starter on a warm day, fresh and clean.

As a main, I was tempted by the robata grilled duck but unfortunately was informed that they didn't do it at lunchtime. So instead I made a snap choice and instead went with the roasted spring chicken marinated with honey, five spice and dried herbs, along with a side of rice. I suppose I was expecting a chicken breast fillet, so this was a bit of a surprise, but was lovely.

My boyfriend chose the daily special, so naturally I have no idea what it was. But it was some sort of fish, on a bed of noodles topped with crackers and a healthy handful of coriander. It was gone before I knew it so it must have been good.

I'm a mango fiend so when I saw they had mango sorbet as a dessert option, I was all over it. Presented in a champagne coupe, this was just my cup of tea.

My boyfriend went for the less summery option of chocolate fondant with ice cream. He let me have a little taste and it was rich and gooey, but I must admit that I was glad I picked the mango sorbet for its refreshing fruitiness.

To say it was the first Vietnamese restaurant we came to and we didn't check out any others, Viet Grill was a great choice, the food was great, the atmosphere was relaxed and the punch was on fire (literally!).

Viet Grill is managed by the same people who manage Cay Tre in Soho and Hoxton and also Keu! in Shoreditch, Vietnamese Kitchen. I haven't visited any of the others, yet, but they're on my radar now to try if I ever pass by. Now, we've discovered Kingsland Road's Pho Mile, we will be back for a visit.

Viet Grill is one of the many Vietnamese restaurants on Kingsland Road which is worth a visit. It is very warm and friendly with the staff being very attentive and happy to stop and chat even if it is mega busy.

I visited Viet Grill with my sister for a spot of dinner one night. We both ordered main courses and some cocktails. I had Chicken Po Noodle soup and my sister had Wokked Monkish and Shiitake with rice. The noodle soup was lovely with a bit of a kick and everything was delivered to the table quite quickly. The cocktails were also very nice but were very very strong.

Only small comment I would make is that it is slightly more expensive than other similar restaurants if your dining out on a budget.

Viet Grill is responsible for both introducing me to summer rolls and also the best wallpaper in London. A gorgeous print of vivid green banana leaves looks over you as you tuck into the fanciest pho on Kingsland Road.
Be warned, it can get loud and busy pretty quickly - not the place for a quiet, intimate dinner. Try lunchtime for a more peaceful experience.

The pho was decent (I am very picky with pho) but the Spring Bowl was just what I wanted! I also loved the banana leaf wallpaper. It was crowded (on a Saturday night) but I left a very happy girl. This restaurant is a lot of the things that I love about Vietnamese food becoming trendy in places like London, and of course it also had a bar!

Everyone knows that Kingsland Road is THE place to go if you want some Vietnamese food.

It's not called Pho Mile for nothing.

Viet Grill is a part of the growing empire that also encompasses the two Cay Tre restaurants, and Keu cafe.

Step inside and you are welcomed into the Jungle Book courtesy of all the banana tree leaves painted on the walls, and the oak wood furnishings.

In comparison to the other Vietnamese restaurant's further down the road that all seem to have a 'canteen' vibe; VG is pretty swish.

The tables are situated considerably close to one another. This makes peeping over at what everyone else is eating that much easier. Everyone does this. I know you do too ;]

J. and I came here during lunch, and for £7.50 each we went for the Beef Pho, and the Vietnamese Beef Carpaccio Salad; which was accompanied by Morning Glory soup and deep-fried tofu.

The Yummei Factor:
Pho: The beef was finely sliced and presented medium rare as it slowly cooked in the soup. The soul of the broth was light, flavourful but required lashings of chilli.

Salad: The Beef Carpaccio Salad was my 3rd choice as the other dishes I wanted were unfortunately sold out. Anyway, the lemon-cured tenderloin beef was indeed very tender, and citrus infusion wasn't too strong that it overpowered the flavour of the beef. A balance that is normally hard to get right. It was a very refreshing salad, and definitely hit the spot. I only wish that the portion was bigger :(

Viet Grill is considered one of the best places in London Town for authentic Vietnamese food.

The service was attentive, the food came quickly, was fresh and enjoyable; however I just wasn't blown away.

I probably need to come back here for dinner and order many more dishes so I can give a more well balanced review.

Anyone want to come with me?

Yummeis: 7/10

A very surprising and impressive restaurant. Real good quality food. Great service too. A real surprising dish which everyone must try is the rice sheets with grilled pork, I’m sure restaurant can correct me with an exact name. One of the best dishes I’ve had in any restaurant this year. Wish I took more pics. I ordered a wok fried pho, very saucy and lots of meat and veg. Fried rice with pork chops was very pleasing to take home. Spring rolls were nice, meaty and flavoursome. Summer rolls were great. Only wish was just a bit more peanut sauce with my summer rolls. 9.5

Party of 5 on a Wednesday night. The place was buzzing and packed. Really enjoyed the food but the best was the house specialty steamed crepes. Very authentic and fresh. Way better than the steamed crepes in Hong Kong. The summer rolls and salt and pepper squid were also good. Hands down the best Vietnamese I have tried in London on this trip. Went back on Thursday for lunch which is a nice quiet atmosphere. A great lunch set is available for £14.95 and the original pho is very good.

Viet Grill is an incredibly underrated Vietnamese restaurant that deserves more recognition. The pho they serve is simply outstanding, among the best I've ever tasted. Although the selection of side vegetables is limited to coriander, fresh bean sprouts, and mint, the broth itself is exceptional, and the beef is remarkably tender, cooked right on point. While the cold dishes may suffer from being made ahead of time and lack freshness, the hot dishes I sampled were truly outstanding. The value for money is impressive, and once you experience Viet Grill, you'll never want to go back to chain food restaurants like Pho.

Excellent food and good service. 6 of us had lunch together and really enjoyed it. Loved my Hanoi char grilled belly pork. Big portions! Only 3 stars for atmosphere because it was lunchtime midweek and rather empty, but that suited us as we could have a good chat without disturbing anyone. Thank you to the other diner who kindly took an excellent picture of our group for us. Hope we weren't too noisy for you.

Best Spring rolls I've had in London. The beef pho was flavorful and had an ample amount of fat and umami. Really authentic taste, similar to the taste when I had pho in Hong Kong.

Food was great!!!!! but my drinks let it down a bit for me. I ordered the virgin mojito and had asked if it was sweet which they said it wasn't but the waiter said he would check with the bar staff to see if they could make it sweet and he said they could, however their version of making it sweet was just adding sugar to the drink which you can imagine was just sat at the bottom of the cup 😔. But aside from that the starters were lovely, portion sizes were decent and the food tasted great.

Dropped into this place before and after an event we were attending locally. The small plate dishes Betal Leaf Dumplings, salt and pepper squid and the special rice rolls with pork and Asian mushrooms were delicious. Portions were good sized. House red wine was inexpensive and ok. On the return visit we had pho which was also very good. Recommended place. Service a little inattentive at times.

Decent, local Vietnamese restaurant. Between the two of us, we shared the imperial spring rolls (good), Hanoi style bahn cuon (tasty and good portion size), the chicken breast pho (broth was clear and super hearty) and the Hanoi grilled pork bun cha (not bad but found the grilled pork and broth quite oily). The lychee martini was great as well. The service was efficient but as the night got busier, it was harder to flag down the waiters for the bill.

Viet Grill definitely exceeded my expectations and I love the combination of delicious Vietnamese food that’s also quite affordable. I appreciate the wide selection of Vietnamese dishes that you can choose from so you can try dishes that you won’t commonly find in other London Vietnamese restaurants. My favorite was the order of Achovied Chicken wings. If you want rice, definitely have it with a serving of the Pork Belly Stew or the Claypot Mekong Catfish. For the more health-conscious foodie, a warm bowl of Pho would be the perfect meal. It has a little bit of everyone and is great value-for-money!

MY NEW FAVORITE SPOT 🇻🇳😍🤤 The banh cuon (steamd rice rolls) are so so so good, tastes super fresh! My favorite is the Sapa Style Banh Cuon, staff is quick and friendly and the restaurant is comfortable and clean. I’ve been three times within two weeks so this speaks volumes! I live like 10 minutes away but I usually just grab pho somewhere else on on Kingsland Road. The other day I was really hungover so I wanted some thing different and it was hot outside which is why I went for Viet Grill and once I tried the food over delivery I finally made it to the restaurant although living very close by for over three years 😂 will definitely come regularly now! Value for money is also really good because the portions are quite big.
