Great thai.  Good service, quick quality food.  Eaten here a few times now and never had a bad meal.  They also do take away and its BYO.You often need to book but its worth the trouble.

I have been so frustrated at my inability to fit updating this blog into the rest of my (wage slavery) life - in an ideal world of course I wouldn't need to work and I could spend my days sipping flat whites, eating great food, travelling, reading books, watching movies and being a blogger-extraordinaire.  That day may come (he says hopefully) but right now this l'il ol' blog of mine has been taking a poor second place and I am determined to redress the balance a little.  I have about 20 "almost posts" that may need to be revisited but for now I thought a close to home post about a fab new eatery in Battersea would be a good start.  I am a big fan of Brixton Village Market but have never been to one of its most popular eateries,  Kaosarn - although ever since reading Jay Rayner's glowing review it has been on my "must visit" list.  Luckily for me the Kaosarn crew decided to open a second outpost on St John's Hill - a street which (to the delights of those of us who live nearby) is gett

Kaosarn first opened in Brixton Village last year, and it quickly gained a reputation for Thai food that's a cut above. So when I heard a second branch was going to open in Battersea, I was excited. I was right to be. I wasn't going to blog about my meal there, but I feel compelled to write a mini-review because I had such a great time. We kicked off with deep-fried spicy chicken wings , deep-fried spare ribs and some moo ping (grilled pork skewers). These were all good, especially the moo ping . For mains, two of us went for the kao pad kra-praw (fried minced pork w/fresh chilli & holy basil topped with fried egg) while my other dining companion went with gang keaw warn (chicken green curry). Both dishes were a cut above the norm; in particular I enjoyed the refreshing holy basil that combined well with the hot chilli in the kao pad kra-paw . That said, the runny fried egg with crispy edges topped it off for me! My friend was also impressed that pea aubergines were served with the cur

I visited this place for a birthday meal with a big group of people. My manager was very unfriendly as rude, and even though we took in a good stride, it might come across as offensive to a lot people. The food is exceptionally good, delicious and flavorful. There is a "bring-your-own-booze" system here, which makes dining here quite a reasonable affair. I would surely recommend it.

The restaurant is just awesome. We had made a reservation and were very happy with the evening. the welcome door man is friendly. the service is soft. The menu is elaborate with a lot of options to choose from among the beverages section. We had ordered chicken salad with papaya and rice which was both savory and sumptuous.

Loved the red curry sauce too. The service was pretty efficient as well. Good place to go to if you want some really good Thai food!

I have been to another branch of this restaurant, and loved coming here as much as the previous one. This is a little less posh in comparison, but I still find it to taste amazing, and perfect for a quiet and peaceful dinner. The food was flawless, and everything else was perfect. A big thumbs-up to this restaurant from my side.

I loved this place. It is my favorite for this cuisine. I recommend the sea-bass and fried shrimp starter. The menu here is so large and has some great options. The flavors in the food are great and one cannot find fault with the food. The service is also amazing here!

We were here on a weekend night and as a large group, we enjoyed ourselves here. The staff in this place is very cordial and attentive . The food is also extremely wonderful in taste and is made keeping in my the dietary requirements. In my opinion , the factor that this place allows bring your own option, makes is reasonable and the value for money is very good.
I am definitely going back and will suggest the place to everyone i know.

This place is a quirky option if one wants to enjoy a good meal at a fun place.
I found the food to be average in taste however, must make a special mention of the way this place has been decorated. With doorknobs which are oh so funky that they have song lyrics imprinted on them in Thai, to the 1 pound peep show sign which makes it all the more interesting. This place is a true winner!

As a sister to the successful family run business on Coldharbour Lane in Brixton, Kaosarn has quickly gained a reputation as an excellent Thai restaurant. Quality in abundance and flavours to match, this surprisingly good value restaurant will leave you with plenty of money left in your bank account and a giddy warm feeling to boot.

The best thing is it really holds a genuine authenticity of Thai cuisine. It doesn’t seem to placate to the Western ‘ideals’ of things like Prawn Crackers…“Oh no, we don’t do that here” as if to say, those awful crunchy things are far beneath us. We only cook the real-deal here.

And quite right they do, as we found out when our main courses arrived. The red Thai curry had all five elements of spicy, sour, sweet, salty and bitter present and correct to confuse the senses into delight. The Pad Thai was also a triumph. I’d have to stick my neck out and say it was the best I’ve had due to the succulent noodles, heavy dose of lime juice, perfectly cooked prawns, plus the pile of crushed peanuts and chillies to sprinkle on at your leisure.

Whenever we go out to eat, we’re eagerly looking around the room to look at what the rest of the clientèle have chosen; all portions for all dishes looked decent and smelt excellent.

Another other predominant theme of Kaosarn is urgency. The urgency reflects London as a whole perfectly. Fast, brash, in your face and glorious. Now this might not be to everyone’s tastes, but for a table of 2 you’re given 1 hour before you have to give it up, for parties of 4 or more you’re permitted an hour and a half. I personally had very little issue with it, if you are going to behave that way you better make darn sure the food is up to scratch, and it certainly is fantastic. Every table was taken and there were people queuing for the next sitting.

The starters are on average £6-7, and mains range from £7-13, all very affordable. As it is also BYOB place this keeps the final bills very low indeed.. we had two starters and two mains to share, and that came to less than £30. Bargain.

If there is a criticism, it was the starters; we had the battered prawns and fish cakes. The batter on the prawns was nice and light but the accompanying ginger sauce didn’t pack enough punch and so the overall effect was a little taste free in comparison to the rest of the dishes. The fish cakes were good and the sauce for this was the real winner for me with crushed peanuts and coriander in the mix.

I’ll definitely be going again however, and do highly recommend a visit.

A bit spartan but really good food.

This little Thai restaurant in a white and relaxing decoration called attention from me to stop and try. Their Pad Thai and Yen Ta Fo) are good and authentic especially Som tum thai salad was very excellent.

My friend also like the pad chu chi with an excellent sauce as well as cold fresh soya drink that it's not too sweet like in other Chinese or Vietnamese shops.

Its decoration is different from the other Thai that it's bright and pleasant to hang around with young friend. The owner is a couple who are very friendly and nice to customer.

I will return to try the Beef soup noodle and other dishes. I'm sure there are more interesting delicious menu to try. All dishes are well prepared and taste great. Surely this place guarantees some authentic dishes.

Most of all, price is very reasonable not expensive like other Thai restaurants.

Very good Thai in London. Battersea Area.

The menu is huge and choosing is not easy. They have a good selection of curry dishes, which I am in love with. I advice to order their chicken with green curry that is cooked with their special coconut milk. I must say, I LOVED it. Also, they have nice desserts as fried bananas with chocolate which I think are GREAT.

KaoSarn is not expensive and you should spend 20 £ each... at the maximum. The restaurant is quite small, so you might have to wait, but you will be rewarded by the food experience.

In 3 words, CHEAP – FUN - TASTY

This restaurant has never disappoint. Food quality is good and the price is competitive. However, you need to know which dishes to pick as not all of them are at the same level of standards.

Good dishes recommendation:
- fish chu chi (sea bass with red curry sauce)
- Bangkok Tom yum noodles
- deep fried soft shell crab
- grilled chicken, sticky rice and Thai salad
- goohg plah

From Thai to Thai - I hopped on a train to Clapham Junction to meet flatmate Ali for some food at Kaosarn, another place with roots in Brixton Village.

I ran out to Sainsburys to grab a beer (BYOB) straight after ordering, and the starters had already arrived when I returned 2 minutes later. We went for Satay & Moo-Ping skewers - generous portions and tasty sticky sauces are a winning combination. I do wonder if Ali munched through some more and hid the evidence whilst I was off site...

We moved quickly on to classic Thai Green Chicken Curry & Beef Massaman Curry with sticky rice. I could eat Kaosarn's creamy green curry all day - it's a reminder that good food doesn't need to show off to be enjoyable. Simple and delicious.

Dessert was Gluay Tod - Banana fritters served with vanilla ice-cream topped with ground roasted peanuts and honey. Hit the spot again, gone in seconds.

We were in and out within an hour which is impressive, but we would have loved to stay longer as the atmosphere is wonderful, helped by a bright dining room with high ceilings, cool lighting, and windows opening out on to St.John's Hill. Fantastic food from start to finish - all for £15!

With Powder Keg Diplomacy buzzing opposite, Ben's Canteen round the corner, and Birdhouse café down the road, local residents are spoilt for choice. Check them all out on Saturday at the festival, or make some time to visit St. John's Hill soon.

Kasosarn offers a range of authentic Thai dishes all for a great, affordable price.
The various 'starters' are rich in spice and complement the 'mains' selectively. Along with soups and salad dishes, the side orders are all reasonably priced.
With great dishes comes great popularity and Kasosarn is nothing short of experiencing the rush of a Thai market; at peak times it can take up to 15 minutes to be seated, which can be sometime mean a rushed exit due to high table demand.
I would personally recommend the 'Panang Gai' which is served in rich coconut milk and steamed rice.
There is a reason why Kaosarn has queues outside - the food is excellent and the location is ideal for an evening meal.

A M A Z I N G. If you want to try one of the best thai in London for less than 20 Pound here is your place.
The starters are many, and as long as you ready the menu, as many you would like to eat. Try the grilled sweet pork skewers and the soups, with a friend of mone we have tried the little one proposed in the starters menu and we could not decide which one was most delicious. Their selection of curries is incredible, we tried the green curry and even if it was not as spicy as i though it was excellent.
I personally recommend the fried banana dessert, i didn't want to try it but my friend persuaded me. It is a fried banana sliced in 2 pieces with a big ice cream spoon, better to share it with someone!
The restaurant is very little but very precious, the lamps are very particular, you 'd better be prepared to wait for a little bit but it is 100% worth.

The deal here is simple: eat amazing fresh Thai food and pay less than half as much as you would in a conventional restaurant. The venue might not be the greatest, with just a few tables indoor and some more scattered around the entrance and arcade of Brixton village, but Kaosarn is no fancy place.

Come for the food indeed, and bring your own alcohol (which saves you even more money). Thee kitchen is actually so small that it's incredible how four people can actually cook in there (especially as they have no gas...), and most of the preparation is actually done during the day on the same table where you'll be dining in the evening.

The selection of curries is quite good, with both red and green curries, as well as traditional Thai dishes such as noodles plates and soups. However my absolute favourites are the starters, and my suggestion is to share as many platters of starters as you can! Personally I like most the Moo Ping (grilled sweet pork skewers), the Satay chicken and the Geax Tod (fried parcels of minced pork and shrimps). And the accompanying sauces are delicious! Don't forget however to leave space for the dessert, as their battered fried banana is just amazing.

Most of the time you'll have to line up, so reservation are recommended, but here you'll find the best Thai meal you can have in London for under £20!

Always a warm welcome with expertly cooked and prepared dishes. The Phad Thai and Bangkok Noodles were the stand out main dishes for us. NOTE: it's CASH ONLY with the added benefit of BYOB (no corkage), so be experimental with you dishes. Best family run value for money offering in the neighborhood and worth my overground journey from NW London. Please go and experience it for yourself!

It's my most favourite Thai Restaurant in the world. I have been eating in Kaosarn for a number of years. Their branch at St John's Hill offers the same amazing experience like their other branches at Brixton Village and Tooting. It's a family run business and the food is authentic Thai cuisine. All restaurants allow BYOB so it's very convenient for customers to enjoy their food with their favourite drinks. It's wise to book as all branches are always busy. They have a wide range of menus: chicken with sticky rice or Phad Thai for Thai food beginners to a more fiery creamy curries. All the food on the menu is sumptuous and can make you drool! They make the best Som Thum Thai or papaya salad with a lot of kick. My favourite of all time is their Massaman Curry. Not a lot of Thai restaurants offer melt in your mouth lamb Massaman but Kaosarn does! I like to eat spicy starters to awaken my palate then, eat mild main so that my taste buds can focus on enjoying the taste of Thai cuisine. If I don't have any starters, I would go for their red or green curries. The addition of coconut cream makes them especially tongue-tastic! You'll be saying.. "nom nommm nomm!" All curries come with a huge serving of rice! The staff are all so friendly and helpful. Giselle is very professional and always so attentive just like all their staff. The aunty behind the counter is an added assurance that the food is always lovingly prepared and that you'll have that home cooked comfort food on the table. I love Kaosarn so much I had my 50th Birthday there and yes it's a very popular destination for all kinds of celebrations!

Thank you giselle for looking after us! You are such a great staff member and very polite! When they needed the table back, Giselle easily shuffled the tables around so we could stay longer after our meal. The food came out so quickly. I come back here for the food and the BYO is great. Cash only, but ATM across the street. Cool little find. We will be back!

What a cool little restaurant with extremely sweet and lovely owner. I like the decor a lot. For those two reasons, I give it 5 stars. Food wise, it was fine. My dish was too spicy so she kindly replaced it with a new dish with less chilies. Thanks for that. The prawns were very big and plentiful. I’m extremely happy with the quantity of it. The taste is not too authentic but suits most people’s tastebuds.
