First time having eel, not my cup of tea but the mash and liquor sauce was fantastic. The owners were very welcoming and were great people, would love to come back to try the pie!

Went here last month with my friend as I’ve wanted to try an authentic East End pie and mash for a while. The shop is in a rather unsuspecting part of Canning Town and was a bit of a walk from the nearest tube stop. However, when we arrived, we were greeted in a friendly manner and asked to take a seat. I ordered 2 pies and mash along with a side of jellied eels. The pie and wash with liquor was excellent and a reasonable price. I wasn’t a huge fan of the jellied eels but I got talking to the owner and he let me try the stewed eels instead, which were warm and tastier than the jellied variety. We had a very good time here and I enjoyed the banter and conversation with the employees. Would highly recommend for anyone in the area who wants a filling meal or just fancies trying pie and mash with eels, like myself.

Best Pie and Mash in London!! Very authentic with great, quick service. Best cheap option for lunch. We have tried pie and fries with liquor and eels with mash. The pie was the highlight, with very nice and meaty filling, better than at goddards or other pie and mash places I’ve tried. Recommend!
the cheapest and one of the best p&m I have had. the staff were among the friendliest you will get in a p&m shop. very traditional at low prices, the quality is very high so great value for money, BJ pie and mash are flying the flag in an area that seems to have lost a lot of eastend tradition, keep up the good work well done.
Family-run pie&mash shop. Great food at decent price. Owners very friendly. The only downside is they don't accept card payments.

Simply the best pie and mash shop in London! Been a staple of the Abbey Arms since I was a kid and now I'm an adult, I'm glad to see it's still going strong!

I think I've finally found a place to call home after 45 summers.. firstly the surroundings, you've got a proper powder keg ready to go off at any time. Which is great, as your never bored. Lots to see and do. Staff are what I would call cockney gems. Plenty of swearing with a welcoming smile and a plate of pipping hot,delicious, traditional, and very reasonably priced pie and mash. Day one 1, I had 2pie,2mash and liquor.. it was the best I've ever as yet..I am a very critical person when it comes to food. However I couldn't find a fault.

I hear you cry ("CHIPS") .. I must add at this point they only go and cook chips in (LARD)..
I WAS ALL OVER IT LIKE A DIRTY RASH.. I can't remember the last time I had chips cooked in lard. Over 32years at a guess..
Well my life has now changed. It was amazing!

I absolutely love the place, B.J'S has been around for donkeys years. I used to go there when i was a young teenager. Now im in my late 30s. I popped in there on Saturday 😋.. Still going strong 💪
