EXCELLENT. Eaten here several times and it never gets old. some of the best food i've had in london! the owner will often insist on guiding you through the menu to find a dish that you want based on your preferences (dry vs saucy, tomato vs lemon and herbs, spicy vs not spicy, meat vs vegetarian, etc). the food was fantastic and the bill was affordable. it's also BYOB which makes it an easy choice. definitely come here! i'm a big fan of the morris masala with chicken and the preshwari nan
We love spices. I used to come here when I lived near by. Back here on a holiday and went out of our way to dine here again. Awesome food
Amazing curry, cooked from fresh. I stumbled across this place about 6 years ago and have never looked back. Forget the curry places on brick lane - Angel Spice beats them all hands down. The food is all cooked freshly, so it sometimes takes longer to arrive than in some places, but it is well worth the wait. Instead of ordering from the menu, tell Ali (the owne)r what sort of thing you like and he will make help you choose a dish to suit you. Great curry at a great price, and the BYO policy is really nice when eating in. Highly recommended.
The food and service were great, the other reviews convinced me to go, and they were spot on! A nice touch was the staff got us to taste the dishes when they arrived without the rice just to make sure we were pleased. Great!! The atmosphere is great because it's so lovely and everyone is having fun, but it doesn't have amazing decor or anything like that, which is fine, just to give a true reflection on everything.
Ps. that negative review by Katherine whatshername, has been posted on other sites under different names, and each one tells how amazing THQ is whatever that is. Anyway definitely suspicious and fake as the food is fab!
Superb and diffferent. 4 of us dined here on Monday 17th October. We walked in off the street. The menu is varied and different from other Indian restaurants. The manager was helpful in helping us select dishes we had not tried before. The food was just out of this world, it was delicious and there was plenty of it.
It is also a take your own wine restaurant which is great. We were told that had we mentioned to the off license that we were at this Indian we would have had discount.
A really enjoyable evening.
Simply awesome. Spices is simply put an institution in Angel. Unbelievably fresh, tasty food and a fantastic, authentic atmosphere make it my favourite Indian joint in the Islington area by quite some way. Our household have been regulars there for last couple of years and not once have we been disappointed! Highly recommended!!!
Superb. One of my favourite places to go eat and easily the best Indian restaurant I know in London.
The wide range of dishes are packed with flavour and far more interesting than a typical curry house.
Service is warm and knowledgeable. You really feel like they want you to have a special meal.
Combined with reasonable prices and a BYO policy makes Spices a superb restaurant.
Food Heaven. I lived in Islington for 3 years without knowing this place existed before being told about it by a friend. I consider this 3 wasted years of my life. The food is sensational - delicate and fragrant, with some dishes combining 5 different flavours in one mouthful. I recommed the Lamb Rajastani starter followed by the Tok Jal Misti (sp?). Food heaven. The owner is one of the most charismatic and fun people you will meet. I took my parents there twice while they were down in London, and they now request we go back to see him every time they come down. It's BYO and the food is exceptional value.
The best Indian take away iv had. The food was amazing, flavoursome & great value. It's Valentine's Day, aka the busiest night ever for take out food and the delivery came in under 45 minutes. The guy on the phone was very polite and welcoming. Perfect from start to finish. Thank you and we will be back!
Spices has become one of my favourite Indian restaurants in London. The owner is passionate about his food, and is more than happy to walk you through the menu to help pick dishes based on your taste preferences.
They are also very accommodating to vegans, and happy to make sure there is no glee or other dairy in your dishes.
Definitely worth checking out
We really enjoyed this place first time and have now made it our regular local Indian. The head chef has been happy every time to speak steer us away from British curry with lots of sugar and towards his home style cooking. Lebu Bengal lamb dish was excellent.
Went to Spices last night as it was close to home and I fancied Indian, WOW such amazingly tasty, fresh and delicious food!
The owner is so knowledgable and will even combine certain dishes on the menu to make you a unique dish suitable to your tastes, he wants to make sure you enjoy every bite and we sure did!
This place is well worth he visit honestly the best indian /Bengal food in London- Skip Brick Lane THIS is the place!! Our group were blown away with the food and we all said we had not eaten better elsewhere!
We will be back many many times!
This place is a hidden gem right in the centre of Angel, five minutes walk from the tube station but a figurative mile away from the expensive chain restaurants and cafes of Upper Street. The owner is incredibly friendly and helpful, a big personality and always makes you very welcome. The food is outstanding and, importantly, offers a lot of unusual and really authentic dishes - all at very very good prices (ones that don't seem to have changed for years!). BYO is the icing on the cake - you can have an awesome meal for four for about a tenner each, bargain.
The chef/owner talks to every customer to make sure you order a curry specifically suited to you talking about the kind of flavours you like and how hot you like your chillies. Then when the food is ready they let you taste the sauce and you can decide whether it is right and send it back if it needs more or less heat. It really is an incredible service and one that would be great to see at other curry houses.
The curries are very fresh and light, not the greasy kind you'd find on Brick Lane.
The typical British/Indian curries are available but this is a Bangladeshi restaurant and so do be brave and venture beyond the boring Korma/Tikka Masala to the Bangladeshi specialties.
If you're in Angel and you are looking for a curry this is the place to go.
I've been going here for over 8 years on my regular trips through London. Food always very reasonable and excellent. If you're not sure what to try, ask Ali the owner to make something to your personal preference.
Can get very busy though, so service can sometimes be a little slow, but nothing some good company doesn't fix!
This place is insanely good value - very no frills, but the food is fresh and tasty. The set menu for £10.95 offers excellent value, as does the Tastecard offer (at around £8 a main, IMHO it's still good value even without these discounts). It' also BYO, making it the perfect choice for when we want to catch-up, not be rushed and enjoy good food & wine on a budget. Highly recommend as an Islington Cheap Eat.
Owner is an experience and Bangladeshi food is authentic and delightful over regular curries. Note that the owner has now moved to Bengal Spice (taken over from previous owners and turned into his place) on Holloway Rd.
Simply the best curry I've eaten in central London. Everything is freshly cooked, so don't expect to be served quickly – this food is worth taking your time over.
