This place requires peace of mind, a book to read and plenty of time to real feel the essence. They have a satisfying breakfast menu, which when accompanied by a drink would make it a perfect meal. Its a family cafe where kids play as well but you wont feel out of place. I ordered a vegetarian breakfast. The poached eggs were perfect, combined with the exact 'sweet spot' of crispy buttered toast. The rest would also live up to your expectations. You would leave a happy person from this cafe!
To my shame, it's taken years to realise that good restaurants and cafes abound all around me in NW!0 and this morning I made another discovery, Gracelands cafe on College Road in Kensal Green.
Now Sundays are precious to me - working six days a week means that indulgent treats are practically obligatory, so having Eggs Benedict on a Sunday with a mug of builders and the Sunday papers scattered around me seemed like one of my better ideas.
And what a good idea it turned out to be. Gracelands is spacious, welcoming and lays its emphasis on organic and homemade food, all cooked from scratch. The chef popped his head over the counter and informed me that he hadn't been happy with the eggs so was starting again. Nice touch. I wasn't in a hurry. A cursory glance at the small but interesting menu told me that the credit card would take a big spanking but I suppose providing high quality ingredients (happy pigs as Nick the chef informed me) in an area that attracts top rents is reflected in the prices charged.
To my generous breakfast. Bright yellow Hollondaise draped over some perfectly cooked large organic eggs nestled nicely on some quite wonderful Wiltshire ham put a stupid grin on my face that only comes with immense joy at what I've thrust into my greedy gob. I have to say I wasn't terribly impressed with the muffin. A little chewy but everything else was very impressive indeed.
A lot of the punters here are regulars - there's a real feeling of relaxation and contentment that makes Gracelands a sure bet for a Sunday morning visit.
I imagine it's rammed at Sunday lunchtimes with inviting offerings like home made chicken and tarragon pies, roast short rib with star anise and fennel with horseradish mash to tempt you.
As an aside, I have heard great things about The Island, diagonally opposite Gracelands and I noticed a sign saying that on Monday nights you can bring your own wine if you're dining in the restaurant. Guess where I'll be going for my tea tomorrow night? Sorted.
I visited this local's cafe on a mission for find sugar free, low carb cakes. And what I found was a Portuguese custard tart which was incredible! Plus coffee with unsweetened almond milk. The custard tart had been reserved for me to make sure I didn't miss out! What a thoughtful touch. This cafe seems to be very popular with locals, and I can see why. They're lucky to have such a great place on their doorstep.
Love this place!
Great Coffee, friendly staff, kids friendly environment, nice shabby chic decor, a touch of Elvis and honestly amazing food!
We are coming back soon!
:-)
The right place for breakfast if you are local, lovely terrace in the back.
Very good coffe, nice rustic and homely atmosphere, staff are friendly and helpful! Their food is fresh and quickly prepared. All in all very good.
The place is very family friendly. The food is really nice. Their veggie sausage tastes great!
This place is amazing. Wonderful, changing food with great flavour combinations and products. A fantastic local vibe and the owners and staff have just the right mix of we care friendliness yet remain professional and welcoming even when faced with challenging parents and kids. The space out back is usable pretty much year round and of course all the classes and alternative therapies you could want in the Yard adjoining. Cannot rate it highly enough.
A lovely child-friendly cafe in the north west London. They have a small outdoor seating area with wall-heaters for the winter. The scrambled eggs and salmon with avocado was lovely and very reasonably priced. Sundays do get quite busy around lunchtime but they have a small area for kids to play so it's not complete mayhem over brunch.
Cool vibe. Good eats. Staff are very friendly and professional. If there's one complaint it is that there are a lot of young children who frequent here (with their parents of course) and it can get quite loud as a result. This matters far less in the warm months as there is good seating outside in the back that avoids this pitfall.
A wonderful local neighbourhood cafe restaurant that serves wonderful “ homey” food that makes you feel good about yourself and the world in general. A warm and friendly atmosphere with attentive service from the owner chefs and their team. Gracelands is exactly the sort of place you should keep coming back to and indeed a reason for moving into the area. If only there were more of the same.
