The first day we were in London to visit our chosen son, his wife and the new granddaughter we took them to the local pub, in Wimbledon, the Fox and Grapes for lunch. We drank two bottles of Gobelsburger Gruner Veltliner Trocken 2010 Lössterrassen Kamptal from Austria. We ate avocado prawn cocktail £9.50 ($18.00); fox and grapes terrine, date purée & toast £6.00 ($11.40); charcuterie platter £12.50 ($23.75); English beer battered haddock, triple cooked chips & mushy peas £14.50 ($27.55); shepherd's pie served with dressed baby leaves £14.50 ($27.55); blood orange posset & shortbread £6.50 ($12.35); gariguette strawberries, goats yoghurt panacotta, sorbet, crumble & basil £7.00 ($13.30); and crème caramel £5.50 ($10.40).
An off hand find in the heat of an August day. Couldn't ask for more. Thanks to the team at Fox & Grapes for great service, grt food. Steak well cooked to order, haddock an nice size (not grotesque) burgers spot on.
It had been quite a number of years since my last visit, forty to be exact, used to run cross country around the common and the F & G was a pit stop on the way back to college. Well spent a delightful time on a grotty rainy lunchtime. I had the Beef ragu and linguine, it was just right, hearty and warm but not too heavy or big a meal. Certainly bought back memories and the food was light years away from the pub fayre offered previously.
Went for a weekend stroll around Wimbledon Common, but needed some sustenance on the way. I was recommended the Hand In Hand or the Fox & Grapes if I was willing to spend a little more. Ultimately, the Fox & Grapes was the path we took (both literally and metaphorically). It was indeed a little pricier than normal, but the food was of a quality to match. I opted for the haddock and triple cooked chips. The haddock was perfectly battered, and whilst the triple cooked chips weren't as good as others I'd tasted, the mushy peas were excellent. The positive noises from the other side of the table suggested the burger was pretty good too!
We only went for a few drinks On a Sunday and the staff were very welcome even though it was so busy.
They have a small outdoor area at the front of the pub that gets quite cramped when each sets is taken.
They had a lot of large tables for Sunday roast, which looked great but you will definitely have to book!
It’s quite easy to get to, as it’s right by the park and there are a lot of dog walkers/ dogs, as it’s a dog friendly pub.
Outstanding food, outstanding service, and a brilliant wine list. This is a really top quality pub. The perfect mix of old school charm and offerings (like the beautiful Sunday roast) with plenty that meets contemporary expectations. Really highly recommend it.
Tucked close to Wimbledon Common, the Fox and Grapes is this adorable indie pub. Super cosy vibes, friendly crew, and seriously tasty menu. They've got everything from classic pub grub to some inventive dishes. And with a bunch of beers, ales, wines, and spirits, you're sorted for drinks. Perfect chillout after wandering around!
The Fox & Grapes on the west side of Wimbledon common is a small independent pub with rooms. A place offering an "old fashioned" welcome and acceptance into the family. There are a couple of cask ales on offer and a compact offering from the keg, all good though, everyone will be happy. There is an extensive wine list and plenty of unusual shaped bottles on the top shelf. The building is quaint and feels like it has been around for centuries - it no doubt has. The low boarded (wonky) ceiling in the south end of the bar gives a distinct nautical feel to the place. Lovely service and a smile on everyone's face. A great place to drink and, no doubt eat. Lovely!!!
Very good food with friendly staff.
A bit noisy from customers just sitting at the bar and not eating. Otherwise good atmosphere.
This was the venue for a family birthday celebration and they did us proud. Good food, drink and friendly service. The venue helped make this a really successful celebration.
It's a long time since I last visited, but it looks great now. Lovely food and wine, very good service.
Excellent, excellent service, good food. Buzzing at the weekend lunch we had. When it first opened was quite formal but now it seems to have relaxed into itself and has a really good vibe.
Decor, Ambiance, Food, Staff, Party Location and bedrooms - I couldn't recommend more highly. Pub is within easy walking across the Common to the Village and its wonderful shopping. Thank you to all staff at Fox and Grapes for giving us a wonderful weekend stay.
I came here for a Sunday roast, it was lovely and the staff were great. Really good fresh food, good portions and friendly, professional staff.
Brilliant, this is the one word I’d use to describe this place if asked to sum it up in one word.
From the moment we stepped in they were friendly and welcoming, asking me if they could get my giant dog some water. Then following up by do we want water. We were a party of twelve and they were so attentive and looked after our every need.
The food was incredible and collectively we nearly ordered everything on the menu due to our varying tastes. There wasn’t one complaint from anyone, every dish was pure perfection, they definitely market themselves towards the more fine dining pub experience and hit the nail on the head. I can’t tell you how impressed I was and I count myself as having good taste.
The staff were so friendly and brilliant, I wish I’d got their names, they were fun and had a bit of banter but also really knew how to look after us, one was a young women with Black hair and the other was a bald guy and if you are the manager reading this please tell them about this review.
We have been here a few times and even though they have impressed us every time this was impressive due to the sheer size of the group.
Excellent pub and Restruant!

Insane Sunday lunch - all 12 of us were so impressed. Thank you. One of the best London roasts we have had. Gurly and the team were wonderful. Go.
I have to say that this pub serves the best food in Wimbledon, it’s not even “pub food”, there is such a variety on the menu and it is all seasonal. Hard to get a reservation - you need to book ahead and there’s usually a reason for that. 10/10
We had a lovely dinner for 5 people and one dog at the Fox and Grapes this evening. Great atmosphere, loved having the round table and delicious food. Our evening was made even better by our server Matty who was very kind, attentive and charming. Thanks for a great evening - we will be back!
Have the great fortune to be out here for a night away before a large birthday party ; great bar, great meals and wonderful staff. It is of course our in the village so be aware it's not a simple walk from the station up the hill but in spring and summer and autumn I imagine it's a wonderful stroll
Wondered in there for much needed refreshment while in the area for a meeting, glad I did. Bar staff were immediately welcoming and attentive. A bright open feel to the restaurant and bar (even in the low ceiling bar part, good work) with a varied selection of drinks that are well displayed and make for a nice focal point. The quality of drinks and service was fantastic, made to feel very welcome. I didn't try the menu but a friend had the sea bass and was extremely impressed. To top it off the whole place was immaculately clean. Highly recommended.
