Serendipity led us here as we arrived for a week in London staying in a local air bnb. It was a cold dark night, nothing open, and then we chanced on nirvana. The most scrumptious menu. Fab beers and wine. Friendly owner and staff. We returned time and time again. Coffee rivalled Melbourne too. All the best with the venture from the Foodies from Melbourne.

Such a great local place. Tremendous staff and owner. Couldn't be happier to have them next to my house. Huge community support and asset. Food is great, drinks are great. Most importantly the staff are what make it so special.

Lovely staff, ambiance and an incredibly satisfying food experience. A very carefully crafted menu by a chef who truly enjoys creating dishes meant to emphasise the craft of cooking. The dessert cake combo is a must!

Held my birthday celebration here on Saturday and it was fantastic! Staff were so lovely and helpful - even suggesting they would cook for us whilst the kitchen would technically usually be shut. Alex was fantastic when I messaged to organise the day. Plus the food is AMAZING and great value. Highly recommend!

Amazing AMAZING vegan roast dinner. And the other roast dinners. Great atmosphere, food, and booze. All in all, a rad way to spend a Sunday afternoon.

While trying to explore Hackney Wick with a few friends last year, I found this lovely little place a while ago. We came in for Snacks and Cocktails - they do have amazing looking cakes as well, but we opted for the more savoury options!

Its a very relaxed and cosy local, great for a drink with friends. We shared a few dishes, the hommous and cauliflower were great. The cocktails are all have a quirky twist to them. I loved the About Thyme! I always drop by when I'm in Hackney and am glad that I have found this place!

I'll admit I did not originally intend to visit the Hackney Pearl, I was actually in search of a toilet! However, this bar-restaurant turned out to be such a hidden gem I decided to stick around for a cider (Orchards Pig, my first try and would highly recommend) and a pastry. Whilst I did not try the lunch menu, the food that was coming out to the tables around me looked and smelled fantastic. There is seating indoors and out, and the service was excellent. I chanced upon the Hackney Pearl on a beautiful sunny day so sitting outside was a must.

There is a lot of noise about this place and we can see why. You won’t stumble upon it as pearls are always hard to find so you need to plan ahead, it is hidden behind factory buildings near Hackney Wick station. It is one large room with an open kitchen and there are chairs on the street although not one brave soul would dare to sip coffee outside given our recent wintery weather. We’ve been twice in the past couple of weeks – the food is so good. Squid salad with stracci pasta strips The Hackney Pearl is much more than a cafe or a bar. The limited but seasonal menu has fresh fish, steak and plenty of veggie options . It is a good place for coffee and homemade cakes as well as cocktails, wines and Meantime beers. Fresh lemon sole with braised leeks and fennel The service is really friendly but can be a bit slow, though I guess that’s preferable to London’s turning tables craze. Comfort food – meatloaf and mash Opening hours: Monday – Friday : 8am unt

There's very much a cafe vibe to the place. Lots of benches for outside seating, mismatched furniture and bare walls inside, an open kitchen and tables that you imagine were salvaged from somewhere hugely in need of an overhaul. But it's charming. And welcoming. And open all day and night, so whether you're in for a lunchtime coffee or in the late night long haul like us, it's a great find.

We started with a pint of Meantime London Lager for him and a fittingly feminine drink for me that involved prosecco, vodka, limoncello, basil and berries and was possibly one of the nicest concoctions I've had in a while. And of course, it'd have been rude to not look at the wine list. I chose a bottle of 1997 Decenio Rioja that was syrupy smooth and perfectly on the edge of unadulterated bliss. First decisions aside, it was now down to the food.

Whilst being terribly indecisive, we shared the homemade focaccia that was brought to the table salted and with olive oil for dipping, then chose what to begin with. He had roasted fennel with milano salami and sumac aioli - deliciously simple but a nice trio of ingredients that brought sweetness to the saltiness of the meat and a bite of tartness. I went for the smoked mackerel pate and toast - it came smoother than I was expecting but well seasoned and even good enough to make the the non-fish fan across the table appreciate it.

From there, we had the onglet steak (£16) which came with huge skin-on chunky chips and garlic butter. Perfectly pink (they serve it rare) it was melt in the mouth good and a massively generous portion that was swiftly demolished? Did it need a sauce? Perhaps but we were too busy devouring everything to really mind. I had the roasted seabass fillet with roasted tomatoes (so sweet they were almost sunblushed), aubergine and courgette which blew me out of the water. Too often these vegetables when roasted lose flavour and form to become an unappetising mush but their firm sweetness was really impressive and complemented the crisp skin of the bass and the soft flesh beneath.

Another bottle of red in and we were ready for dessert. The menu here is a little disappointing and harks more to its cafe roots than offering restaurant-ready puddings. Nevertheless, we chose the vanilla and brownie ice cream and the affogato to cleanse our palates but I left dreaming of cake or something a bit more decadent.

The service was some of the friendliest I've had in London; attentive enough but laidback enough to be able to share a joke and have a conversation with. No stark uniforms here but shorts and smiles instead. And the atmosphere? We were there quite a while and people drifted in for drinks, for dinner, to use the wifi, to eat cake and bring different types of conversation to the table. Music was good too and despite being the last ones to leave, we could have stayed all night. Nice.

Superb cocktails and super friendly staff. Their take on an espresso martini - the Caffeinated & Gregarious - is the best example I’ve ever had, and the margarita was excellent too. Dog-friendly (bowls available!)

A quintessential neighborhood cafe to enjoy a bit of lunch and coffe near Olympic Park. They've got a few benches to eat your take-away. Right now there's a limited menu but it's still quite good. Huevos rancheros, breakfast burrito, burger, and a vegetarian sandwich of the day are some of the options I saw. Today they were featuring a made-to-order ham sandwich that had pickled carrots, a tangy honey mustard sauce, greens; served with chips of course. It really hit the spot I tell ya. I can't wait until they open up for in-door dining once restrictions are eased.

Excellent food. Excellent coffee. Very laidback, eclectic vibe and good working space during weekdays. Enjoyable space for solo mode and groups. Looking to satisfy that sweet tooth craving? Try their French toast - creamy, delicious and visually satisfying goodness! Will definitely come back!

Great little place in Hackney Wick. Grab a table outside and order inside - the veggie feast hit the spot. Simple brunch menu - not a million options like other places. Good coffee too and friendly service. You can park on nearby streets on the weekend too if driving.

Friendly staff and a nice atmosphere I come here often to do some work on my old laptop. Recently came back here for some breakfast and it was epic. Had the meat big breakfast, a Mocha and kumbucha. The breakfast was impressive - sausage, bacon, egg, black pudding, hashbrown, tomato, beans, mushroom and toast. I left feeling very content, and then had a nap at home. And the coffee was nice too!

Nice place to grab brunch (served till 3pm) with good vegetarian options. It's a bit tucked away but close to Hackney Wick overground Station and Olympic Park which is nice for a walk before or after. It's not too busy so you can get a table pretty easily and food comes out very quickly so it's a good option if you want to drop in quickly or last minute. It was also pretty reasonable at roughly £8 for a meal so you can have your avocardo toast and not write off being able to afford a house one day. Would definitely go back to!

The Pearl is a real gem of a find, friendly staff, great food, good value, lovely atmosphere, cool music and frequented by lots of local artists. Best choice of craft beer I’ve found in the east end. Quite unique. Absolutely deserves five stars.

Breakfast / brunch bar tucked away near Hackney wick. Had outdoor seating for spring / summer. Friendly staff, skilled chefs, tasty coffee. Interior matches the neighborhood vibe. Home feelings. Had the shakshuka. Perfect for winter mornings. Nice size, flavours all good. Warming, just spicy enough. The sourdough bread is the buddy you need to soak up all the delicious sauce.

Great location that's an easy walk from Victoria Park. Lots of outdoor and indoor seating but gets busy on weekends. Menu is reasonable with great vegetarian and vegan options. Need to order at the counter, which is then brought to your table. Coffee could be better and water is unfiltered London tap water, it tastes like; which isn't the best. Enjoyed eating here and look forward to returning.
