We had a really lovely experience, we changed the reservation time several times and the accommodated us. Our waiter was outstanding, getting the chef to make up a special chicken and chip dish for my son. As he is allergic to the fish and chip option and didn't like the other 2 options on the kids menu. I spilt the last bit of my cocktail and the waiter was very quick to help with napkins and got me another cocktail. Really nice evening felt spoilt the ambiance and atmosphere was excellent. We really enjoyed ourselves thanks to the wonderful serve. Unfortunately didn't take the waiters name but thanks again..

What a great dining experience. Decor and atmosphere were different from every other restaurant we had eaten in. No large menu choices but everything we chose was really good. The staff were all friendly and attentive without being over attentive. After taking our time over the meal we decided to relax in their very comfy seats and have a few more drinks. Then surprise- surprise we were given a complimentary shot each. Would totally recommend this place to anyone but allow time to enjoy it, don’t just gobble your food down and rush out. We shall return.

The restaurant is an amazing experience for the decor but the food is fairly average .My steak was cold and my chicken wings starter the dip with it just tasted like chopped tomatoes. All sides are extra so if like us you had vouchers for the three course meal it still adds up in extras.Staff were excellent though very good service

It was a night to remember. Large office x'mas party. Good food. It was the first time I tried a crocodile. The rump of lamb was the best with so meat so tender. Lovely ambience and entertainers were lively.

Wonderfully authentic African cuisine with the most fascinating wooden interior artwork! I could sit in the this place all day! Turns into a nightclub after dinner hours. The food was delicious with an interesting variety of meat. They also had very tasty vegetarian options though limited. When I visited hey had a band of African drummers and singers. The sounds resonated the whole restaurant! What an experience!

Worth a try but I won't be going back!

I have been here twice, first time we had an awful experience, very busy restaurant waited ages to even get a drink! The second time we had a Groupon voucher we went on a week night so it was quiet. The food is good nothing amazing but lots of variety on the menu and it was good to try something different.

However the layout and decor of the restaurant is really unique so it's worth a try for the experience.

A friend of mine mentioned Shaka Zulu several times but we never got round to paying them a visit... until 3 weeks ago. Suffice to say, it didn't quite deliver to the expectations, I'm afraid.

Perhaps my expectations were too high, or the hype my friend gave set up the wrong stage. Don't get me wrong though, it was a fantastic experience and worth the try. But the truth is I was not as impressed as I thought I'd be. The most frustrating part of it is that I can't quite pinpoint the reason because, well, their isn't any singular issue. I believe it's the collective which just didn't hit the spot.

Onto the facts. All the food was a first try for me. The dishes were well presented (you could tell that effort had gone into preparing them), taste and texture were satisfying and had an ever-so-slight pinch of mystery. But, nothing stood out as outlandishly great. It felt like I was having a normal meal in a normal restaurant. Maybe Shaka Zulu is just that - a normal restaurant.

The ambience was a beautiful setting, even gave me a sense of nostalgia (I was born in Africa). The live music and the fact that we had centre-stage seats made for a great setting for a good time with friends. From the outside, the place looks small but it's massive. So much so that there are escalators inside, and 2 floors. Giant statues also play a role in giving a sense of greatness to the experience.

All-in-all, a good experience but nothing to write home about (ironically, I'm now writing a review on it - go figure).

South Africa in London? OK well not quite. But if you want a slice and an entice of it – Shaka Zulu in Camden offers just that. And they don’t just offer it quietly, but with singing, dancing, hand carved wooden walls, African sculptures and a menu full of meats you’d expect to come across only on a safari – but never on a London restaurant menu. It’s a bizarre and peculiar place, but a great night out and perfect for date nights as they’ll never be an awkward silence.

I visited shaka zulu on a quiet Monday night, climbed on the escalator up into the dimly light restaurant. Very intricate decor, a lot of African statues and a very massive space with some intimate group seating below. The menu had a large offering of food, cocktails and game, I couldn't decide. I ordered the madiba cocktail, it was very fresh, and sweet with enough alcohol. For my main I ordered the wild boar tenderloin medium well done from the game meats, this came with skinny fries and I ordered fat chips and Malay yellow rice with the zulu red chilli sauce. The boar was very tasty and succulent, there wasn't enough of it but based on my reaction when they brought the meal the manager immediately requested for another portion(happy me) the sauce that came with the boar complimented it very well and I'm happy I got the fat chips because the skinny fries were way to skinny and crispy for my liking. The rice was also very tasty and went well with the sauce and meat, would have been dry otherwise. The meal overall was very filling and tasty and everyone was happy with what they ordered. Will definitely go there another night to try some more and experience the club too.

One of the best places I have ever been to. Be it the food, the ambience and the overall party feel to the place. You will feel the vibe of Africa run through your senses every moment. Any review will fall short to describe the place aptly. With the African dancers to the decor mimicing the African forests and mostly all the animals of the forest available on your plate, Shaka Zulu will give you an experience of a lifetime !!

On a scale of 5:

Ambience- 5
Food & drinks- 5
Value for money- 4

Great place to dine for unusual meat! The ambiance in the place is spectacular, taking you straight into the heart of Africa with its wooden carvings and stone tribal fixtures. Trying a variety of meats such as crocodile, zebra, springbok and ostrich we were blown away by the flavour. Springbok was my favourite with crocodile coming in a close second. The staff were attentive friendly but not smothering which is exactly the kind of service needed in a restaurant. My advice though get some extra sides with your steak as it literally come s with a hand full of crisps which doesn't fill you up. The cocktails were light on alcohol but all in all very lovely.

Chicken ciabatta sandwich and regular fish and chips. The chicken from the regular menu is halal only. However, @shakazulucamden have a separate halal menu inspired by their south african heritage and consisting of halal meat options but unfortunately the options are not as adventurous as their non halal menu. Seperate vegan menu also available. The interior of this place is exquisite and certainly worth a trip. Slightly over priced but that is a reflection of their interior and atmosphere.

I enjoyed the artwork at Shaka Zulu! It adds so much personality to the place that no other restaurant has. I would love to know more about the beautiful art! However, I found the place to be too crowded, nothing warm or welcoming about the place. I had the Crocodile and Beef Potjie, while my friends had ribs. The food was good. I grew up eating crocodile and alligator meat so it brought me great memories of my childhood. It is a bit of a pricey restaurant but worth it for a little culinary adventure. My friend was having a birthday and we were given a complimentary bottle of champagne, which was nice. For dessert, we had a dry red velvet cake, it could have been made better but oh well, maybe I'm expecting too much!

It commonly as offers on buyagift for three course meal with cocktail for £49 which is great value. I had the Zebra when I was there and my friend had the steak - recommended. Is also a nice bar to visit on a Friday / Saturday night.

Shaza Zulu - A South African Experience!. Shaka Zulu, London's largest South African restaurant, opened its doors in August 2010 with a special royal blessing from the Zulu King, HRH Goodwill Zwelithini. Set over a groundbreaking 27,000 sq ft in The Stables Market, Camden.

Carved wooden murals cover every inch of Shaka Zulu's walls and ceiling. A beautiful space to host private events in. The lower floor complimented by a display of 20ft high warrior statues. The Mezzanine level offers a champagne bar and cocktail lounge overlooking the stunning braai restaurant.

Right now you can experience Shaka Zulu for just £29.50 per person. Voucher Choice are selling vouchers worth £60 which will give you a 3 course meal from their ala Carte menu, plus 1 side dish. So buy one and then get your friends to buy one too and you can all enjoy a great meal out with family and friends.

Shaka Zulu in Camden Town. Shaka, King of the Zulus, has invaded Camden Town with an almighty force of culinary cuisine. The great African tyrant and military strategist has replaced assegais and bloodthirst with biltong koeksisters and rooibos tea. Yum!

Shaka Zulu, the high-end restaurant-bar cum nightclub, opened in August 2010 and is a massive 750 seater. The decor is a an unabashedly awe-inspiring, magnificent marvel for the eyes. Optic opulence is occasioned by beautiful handmade mosaics, tribal masks and hand carved traditional scenes from the Zulu nation, which complement the delicate detail designed onto carved walls and ceiling panels. The iconic 'Warrior Wall' where Shaka Zulu, stands amongst a group of warriors sculpted into jaw dropping 60ft high statues, contrives a cultural condescence unique to the London dining scene.

The restaurant's most impressive feature is its spectacular size, which, unfortunately, is also its Achilles heel. There is nothing that kills an atmosphere more than an empty restaurant - a flaw that the folks at Shaka Zulu seem to have compensated by seating patrons in tacitly demarcated sections, which certainly injects some life into a restaurant that would appear otherwise empty.

The menu offers a range of South-African inspired food, from bobotie and bredie to the more exotic ostrich egg and zebra loin. The cocktails are delish and the complementary biltong as a starter is a treat. The koeksister dessert seems to have been 'toned down,' possibly to accommodate a European palate but the coconut crème caramel & passion fruit dessert is superb. The prices are 'high-end' and possible not quite congruent with the quality of the food, which is good but not sensational.

The waiters are friendly, the vibe is Africaney and best of all: Groupon is offering a great deal at the moment - £20/head for a cocktail, starter, main and dessert, which is totally worth it - so keep a look out!

brought my fiance for his birthday, and loved it. we had opted for the sunday lunch thinking it would be unusual but it was just a roast so we switched to the a la carte menu. We shared springbok and ostrich as recommended by the waiter and they were delicious. Definite treat place in the heart of Camden

Came to Shaka Zulu for my works Christmas meal. Went for the traditional Christmas dinner and wasn't disappointed. The service was quick and organised and the food came out hot (a huge improvement from last year's Christmas dinner!) My only complaint was that they didn't have sauces on the table and I love cranberry sauce, to me Christmas dinner isn't Christmas dinner without loads of cranberry sauce!!

The only uncomfortable thing about the evening was that as soon as everyone had finished they rushed us upstairs to free up the table for the next booking.

Overall nice atmosphere and tasty food considering they were catering for lots of Christmas parties! I would definitely come back to try the normal food they offer.

This place was a bliss for me and my partner when we visited it on our anniversary last month. The place is spread on two floors and hosts live music and floor shows every night. This is undoubtedly one of the best and biggest South African restaurants & bar in London and is beautifully decorated.

I am surprised at the negative reviews this place has been garnering. It has a quirky appeal and ambiance inside. The portions of the food were gigantic and I must add, all the meat dishes had great quality meat. Each dish had its distinct flavor. Although the place is expensive, it is worth the food quality and quantity one gets!

I came to this restaurant a couple of weeks back for a friends birthday party, and as soon as we entered the place, no expense was spared. The decor of the place is truly mind-blowing with elaborate carvings and lots of warrior statues. The restaurant is spread on 2 floors and the main restaurant is on the lower floor.
To start with, we asked for some starters which included spicy dried meat, which was like nothing we had ever tried before. The main course was also brilliantly prepared, and the taste was truly mouth-watering.
We had an amazing overall experience and would love to visit this place again.

This place needs a lot of working. In my opinion, the menu needs revision to include better and comprehensive information about the items given that it is in Dutch which is not understood by many. The food was pretty decent but the other dishes needs attention.
I recommend trying the Springbok which is subtle and incredible.
The service, another letdown was totally uncaring and apathetic.

Even though our table was amongst a lot f chaos and people and hustling, we did get that time of privacy between it all. The interiors of this place are absolutely amazing. The cocktails were overpriced, however I might not give that as a negative considering the location of the place. The gentry was a combination of young people from work and the sophisticated ones. Bringing a bit of the African bush to Camden...

From quite an understated outside, once you descend the escalator, shaka Zulu opens up to a vast bar/restaurant. Its decorated the style of Africa, but its surprising chic and has a modern vibe.

There's a vast cocktail menu, but let down slightly by a lack of beers. Nothing on tap and only 2 or 3 bottles. I had a Kenyan brew and at £5 a pop I felt a little aggrieved.

We had a group booking, which I think this place is best catered for, were placed downstairs in a large booth.

Its an interesting menu, lots of wild and exotic meats and from my experience, it does a great job cooking them! I was initially apprehensive that the food might be a little bit of style over substance, but both the crocodile cigar starter and ostrich steak main were superb. For what it is its quite expensive but as an experience its well worth a visit

Towards the end of or meal a full drumming band came out which have the while place a great atmosphere.

Authentic, Delicious and Affordable.

This place gives you a totally unique experience that we leave you 100% happy.

The caesar salad and dressed crab were delicious. All of the seafood was extremely fresh and tasted really better than other places much more expensive than this one.

They also serve crocodile steak that I wanted to try but I will next time.

A friend of mine remained really surprised of this place. They also offer some vegetarian choices that sound really tasty! So if you have vegetarian friends is a good place to satisfy any palate.

We also had a delicious grilled salmon. The salmon was so fresh and cooked to perfection.

The decor inside is really original and unique. Truly, it will leave you astonished.

This place is often really busy so call to make a reservation because it gets crowded!

Incredible food, incredible atmosphere and incredible service. While it's somewhat expensive shaka zulu is one of the few placed I'd say just about justifies the price.
Start with the springbok capaccio. And while you might be tempted to go try one of the game meats for the mains the tbone steak is on a completely different level.
The vanilla creme brulé was my choice of desert and I was very impressed.
Drinks galore! I like the rum blazer but they've got all sorts of drinks and cocktails. If your not too weighed down by a post meal itis then take a trip dowstars to the lounge area where you can embark on a good night out.

Recently went for a night out in Shaka Zulu, it was really busy and took us ages to get in but once we were in i was totally amazed at the decoration, it was amazing! The colours are bright and they have the most amazing decorations and 'statues' (tigers!)

It's funky and fun and you feel like royalty because of the excessive colour gold all over the place. Probably one of the nicest, glitzy restaurants/nightclubs i've seen.

Personally i thought the music was a bit of a downer for me, though this is due to my music tastes. Unfortunately i didn't get to try any of the food (bummer!) but i would love to go back for a meal!

My girlfriend and I went here to eat on her birthday and it was one of the most aesthetically pleasing restaurants that I have ever been too. The décor was wonderful, with giant Zulu statues and hand carved wooden animals to provide you with an authentic South African feel. My girlfriend ordered the seared tuna loin, marinated with coriander and dijon mustard and served with quail eggs. The food looked wonderful and in her own words was “to die for”. I ordered the crocodile cigars which consisted of crocodile fillet wrapped in a spring roll pastry with coriander and harissa mayonnaise. This portion was more sizable than my girlfriend’s and the meat was very succulent and tender. We both ordered the zebra fillet as our main course and were quite disappointed at the small portions we were given. Despite this, the meat was cooked to perfection and the blend of spices really was excellent.

Shaka Zulu definitely is a place to have a magical evening filled with wonderful food, delicious cocktails in an exotic decor with exciting African dancers. All in all, this is a place that I will certainly revisit.

Shaka Zulu. As soon as I heard of the name, one thing came into my mind.. AFRICA! The decor and the atmosphere certainly added a nice twist to the culinary experience. I liked how there were halal dishes available on the menu, being a Muslim it always helps when the meat in the dishes are suitable to eat (Yum). I had a smoked salmon with cucumber salad starter. Being a Bengali, I straight away noticed the fish in the starter menu and I have to say it was great! Nice smokey taste with lemon juice and crunchy salad which made it a great way to start the meal. Next came the big whopper, 400g rib eye steak with hollandaise sauce, with chip like crisps and cherry tomato. Being a big eater, I added a side of FAT chips. One word for the main, MAGNEFIQUE! Cooked to perfection, nice balance of flavour what would have great is to top it off with a nice cold non alcoholic beer! Lol. Overall, a great experience, a place worth checking out.

I had a groupon for £50 worth of food and 2 glasses of wine for £29. It is quite an expensive place to eat, but its in the middle of the Stables market in a great location so it's to be expected.

As you go in, an escalator takes you up to the first floor to the reception. I was amazed by the beautiful decor as I walked in! It is very dark so photos do not do it justice. We were taken down by escalator to the ground floor of the restaurant, passing tall Zulu warrior statues on our way.

The menu is a very exotic one and I was quite excited to try something new! I had the Zebra fillet with mash and my partner had the fillet steak, served raw whilst still cooking on a hot rock. My zebra was really nice (maybe a little bit tough) and i would eat it again. However, my partners fillet steak was so juicy and tasty that I will have that next time!

I would definitely recommend to friends and its a great place for birthdays and Christmas parties! It's a place like no other so a must try!

Place was lovely. Good tasting food tasty cocktails, but most of the the setting in which you dine in is incredible! Reason for 4 star is the service charge added on at the end. I find it rude. If we want to tip the waiter we will. But we would not tip the company

Although the starters were delicious, I felt the portion sizes were small for the price i.e. £12 spring rolls but you only got 3. The main menu was very varied - my son having zebra, my daughter having lobster. The food and drinks came quickly and our waiter was very good. The ambience was amazing with the zulu heritage showing out in force. The statues were beautifully carved with a lot of details.

I had so much fun at Shaka Zulu in Camden Town. I can’t believe I didn’t know about it until this Saturday when a friend recommended it. Great location inside Camden markets, the club is insanely beautiful , the architecture and everything inside is brought from Africa , everything made by hand. Service was great, drinks were decent. It’s better to book a table , it’s more comfortable. Music was a blast . They are open from 8pm to 2am on dot. Shaka Zulu vibes are crazy, will definitely visit them again soon. Highly recommended if you never been there, take your friends and you can call it a night . Thank you guys for the hospitality, thanks to both managers on shift that night for upstairs bar and downstairs bar, thanks to the security guys always keeping an eye. See you soon

The decoration is amazing and atmosphere is great!! You can taste different burguer meats (crocodile, wild boar, ostrich,..). The burgers aren't the best but definitely worth it to see the decor. This place turns into a club at night.

Beautiful interior design, attentive and friendly staff. We had a Groupon voucher, service was fast for each course they were bringing, we did not have to wait long between them. Drinks are lovely. Unlikely to go here without a voucher, feel the food and drinks are overpriced. Atmosphere is great though, great music, obviously depends on the DJ but the DJ playing when I went was good (apart from the microphone quality lol).

I decided to take my other half here for lunch today on an off the cuff idea.. I looked online as I'd seen it advertised a few times and really fancied trying the amazing food that was on offer.. We arrived in the very lovely, vibrant and different Camden Town and walked thro the bustling streets and market, its like a different world but ultimately quite fun. We arrived at shaka zulu and the outside of the restaurant is amazing with 2 huge great tall male figures outside, we went in and found the escalator and as we descended what met us was something to behold, the place seriously is amazing!!! The way it has been designed and the layout and all the figures and statues was simply awe inspiring and jaw dropping.. the ambience was amazing and really felt like you was in a different world altogether!! I could not believe it. We was smartly down to our table and presented with our menus.. the drinks menu has something to suit anyone and we went for the cocktail called shark alley.. mmmm was so gd!! We perused the menu and the food on offer is something else!!! There was crocodile, wild boar, buffalo to name a few, a true feel of Africa im sure!!.. We had the starters which I can't remember the name of but they were basically beef spring rolls.. sorry!! But omg they were divine!! They fell apart and tasted amazing!! For the main course I went for the crocodile steak whilst my gf stayed with the more classic option of the pork chop.. They arrived swiftly and having never having had crocodile I was unsure what to expect but wow!!!! It was so gd!!! Melt in the mouth and the taste was something else.. was a delight!! I am so glad I tried it.. I loved it. If you want to try something different and experience a truly amazing atmosphere with amazing food then this is the place to go!!! I think I have found my new fave restaurant when I'm in London and will deffo be back.. I urge you to try it and you will not be disappointed. Thanks for an amazing meal..

Visited at badu brunch for my cousins birthday, food was good - I originally git the curry but sent it back, the manager immediately changed it and I was much! happier with the seabass! The Cheesecake was the absolute best! Drinks were good too, the only thing is that we were squashed together on one table, tbh we were all family so that wasn't so bad but the party that joined the table which we gave up right next to us just kept increasing and increasing to the point there wasn't enough seats and ladies were a sitting ontop of each other literally, we got a few kicks and elbows just because their table was so packed and we were such close proximity unfortunately, will definitely think twice about dining again as have been to shaka zulu before and not experienced anything like that. It is a must try experience though! If you haven't been do it try it and book it under a deal of you can - so cost effective!

Absolutely loved this place. We went on a 3 course meal through wowcher for £59 for 2 oeople that included a cocktail which was very nice. The food was outstanding and the temperature of the food was spot on. We had to pay £6 for each side dish we ordered and to upgrade your meal to steak, buffalo or crocodile steak was a extra £10 each but so worth it. The decor is amazing and the staff very nice, friendly and helpful. It was my son's birthday so I called in advance to tell them and when they brought our deserts there was a big happy birthday written in chocolate around the plate and the cake had a candle in it. Thanks Shaka Zulu for such a great night. We will be back!!

It was overall an enjoyable experience. We had a reservation through Virgin Experience which helped to keep the price reasonable. It is otherwise a fairly expensive restaurant where you pay more for the “experience” than food. They do serve some special meats and is a good place to try Buffalo or Alligator steak.

This place is amazing. If you visit London, this place is a must see😍👍I strongly recommend to visit this place in Camden. We had a Wowcher and we paid £59 for two. We had a starter, main and a desert in the deal. We paid extra for the sides.(£6 each side) Their drinks for the deal package has to improve😁it was not that impressive. I had smoked paprika grilled seabass, it was a generous portion. You need to pay £10 extra if you want a crocodile steak/buffalo striploin🤪 I liked their cheesecake. Their food is so delicious, you feel like you are in a Michelin star restaurant. It is also a perfect venue for birthday celebrations. 🥳🥳🥳 Goooo there 🤣you will not regret it. They also have a club.
